Justine Roberts Co Founder of Mumsnet says, Mumsnet users will 'not lament the loss of the News of the World as a Newspaper'

How dare Justine Roberts speak for me and others in saying in todays Times that I as a user of Mumsnet will be glad that this 168 year old paper has folded. Murdoch as an Aussie and Roberts being married into the Guardian may not care about this paper but I an many others do, particularly with the loss of of 200 jobs. I'm not surprised she says the above as she is married to the deputy editor of the Guardian, who led the campaign against this paper. There is one thing Ms. Roberts can be sure of, the Guardian won't replace the News of the World, with its daily readership of 175.000!

Becauseimworthit. Don't try to twist my words. I have already said that what some of the journalists did at the the NoW did was not right or proper.
In fact all I have done is to ask the founder of MN not to speak for me or others.
I have NEVER said that I don't like MN have I? How have I been unspeakably rude about Justine Roberts? I've heard you say ten times worse about politicians, but that is ok is it?
Don't tell me her views don't echo her husbands! Roberts has given countless interviews and most of them to the Guardian!
Don't twist my words, it's not clever and it's not funny! Grin

LOL! Of course, she may not have her own brain eh? Just dependent on what her husband thinks and says?!!!

Not a surprising comment from someone who is joyful at the high numbers of 'readership' of the NOTW.

By the way, one thing you can be sure of is that the Guradian will never replace the crap that the NOTW printed. Yipee!!!!!

I'm sorry, who is this Justine married to? Can we clear that up first.
Someone just PM me to let me know or something.

clam · 11/07/2011 23:20

Thought so!

clam · 11/07/2011 23:21

Surely it goes without saying that with, what is it, 4 million visits to MN per month there is unlikely to be a unanimous view on anything. So I think it was reasonable for her to take an overall impression.
It also states somewhere or other on here that: ?Mumsnet is a community and is not a lobby group. We are independently funded and have no particular political axe to grind. That said our members are very active when it comes to something they feel strongly about.?

Ok, the Guardian you say. Now, is that a bigger newspaper than the NOTW was, or smaller? If only there was some way for me to discover their readership numbers.

WinkyWinkola · 11/07/2011 23:35

But she cannot have independent views to his. Or her views are the same as his because she is his wife and part of The Guardian conspiracy.

For pity's sake.

See what you've done Justine? You went and flicked the fuckwit magnet to ON.

News International closed TNOTW as a damage limitation exercise to try to protect the Sky deal and it's other titles. Not because of MN.

ZZZenAgain · 11/07/2011 23:38

Justine spoke for me and I am fine with her comment. No lamentation in my house

You are a strange person, complimentary. How can you say that you aren't being rude about Justine? And don't you see that, as the founder of the site, what you say about her is a bit more personal that what we might say about politicians? (And I'm intrigued as to what I'm supposed to have said about politicians, or how that is 10 times worse!)

I'm not twisting your words at all.

clam · 11/07/2011 23:49

Justine has enough sense to ignore the likes of complimentary. Seems like they know each other anyway.

JustineMumsnet · 12/07/2011 00:19

Don't think we're meeting tomorrow ... unless Complimentary is KatieMumsnet Shock.

I do find it bizarre that there is an view expressed here and elsewhere that because dh works at Guardian I (and by implication Mumsnetters) are merely pawns in his/their master plan. All a wee bit sexist I'd say.

We do take pains to try to represent the boards fairly when we are asked to comment on what's going down here. The anti NOTW sentiment felt and expressed here after the Milly Dowler revelation was pretty palpable and pretty unanimous.

What's more the Guardian is often the last paper to want to give MN coverage. We are much more likely to be quoted in the Telegraph or the Times, probably because folks at the Graun are wary of the connection.

So all in all imho you are quite wrong in your analysis, complimentary. But thanks, as ever, for the input Smile.

EvenLessNarkyPuffin · 12/07/2011 00:23

We all listen to Mr. Justine.

EvenLessNarkyPuffin · 12/07/2011 00:24

We are merely his prawns Grin

ThumbsNoseAtSnapewitch · 12/07/2011 03:02

"...unless Complimentary is KatieMumsnet" Now that really WOULD be a turn up for the books!Grin
Doubt it somehow.

sniggering at the thought of being Mr.Justine's prawns... Grin

JustineMumsnet · 12/07/2011 08:08

I make it a rule to listen to Mr Justine as infrequently as possible. Prawn or no prawn.

exoticfruits · 12/07/2011 08:29

I find it bizarre that people would be thought to be spouting a DHs view-I think that it is quite clear on here that the majority (if not all) wouldn't.
