Justine Roberts Co Founder of Mumsnet says, Mumsnet users will 'not lament the loss of the News of the World as a Newspaper'

How dare Justine Roberts speak for me and others in saying in todays Times that I as a user of Mumsnet will be glad that this 168 year old paper has folded. Murdoch as an Aussie and Roberts being married into the Guardian may not care about this paper but I an many others do, particularly with the loss of of 200 jobs. I'm not surprised she says the above as she is married to the deputy editor of the Guardian, who led the campaign against this paper. There is one thing Ms. Roberts can be sure of, the Guardian won't replace the News of the World, with its daily readership of 175.000!

I agree with the OP. I am hearitly sick of the Guardian, the editor just said on sky news "im sure your viewers will feel" Eh??!!! how does he know how i feel or what i think. Desperate Ed and his political point scoring along with the Nauseating guardian are rubbing their grubby hands in glee. This is nothing to do with Milly Dowler make no mistake. Same as Andrew Marr yesterday. His interview with desperate Ed was shocking and then i remembered that his missus is something at the Guardian. Yuk.

complimentary your "gripe" against Justine seems personal and out of proportion. Do you have some other agenda?

noddyholder · 11/07/2011 21:45

I agree with the OP

This seems to have become a bitch fest against those who have been saying this is illegal and really not cricket. And why should a corporation that pursues illegal activities have a large controlling share of our media?

Logical? Nope. Why does it matter who highlights the scum a long as the scum is highlighted? Unless you don't think they are scum? Unfortunately the law has a different point of view.

Suck it up.

noddyholder · 11/07/2011 22:20

They shouldn't have a large share of our media but this is not about that it is about MN proclaiming a mass view on behaf of posters and we don't all want that.

WinkyWinkola · 11/07/2011 22:23

But how do you know Jistine wasn't speaking for the MN majority? You don't.

chipstick10 · 11/07/2011 22:25

Posters proclaiming people who buy the sun or notw are scum. Wtf!!!!!!

noddyholder · 11/07/2011 22:26

No I don't and neither do you or Justine for that matter unless there has been a poll and I missed it. I have never bought or read those papers but I do not think the NOTW alone is responsible for this type of gutter journalism.

WinkyWinkola · 11/07/2011 22:41

I think a straw poll should be taken.

And as for saying NOFTW isn't alone in this kind of gutter journalism - so what? They got caught good and proper didn't they? Exposed.

Maybe other journalists will think twice about pursuing such 'investigative' methods.

Cannot believe people ate trying to defend of. It's like they want their media controlled by one person.

WinkyWinkola · 11/07/2011 22:42

And Murdoch closed his paper. Nobody else.

complimentary · 11/07/2011 22:43

Justine Roberts or MN of course is not the reason why the Now has closed. It is not up to Roberts or anyone else at MN to say that the users of this site will not lament the closing of a paper. Justine Roberts does not know the views of all the people who post on here, and this site is not just about the politics site, it has over 50 other places we can visit and post, and some of these posters who post on other sites will never visit the politics part of MN.
Ms. Roberts often users the term 'the users of MN' when she has spoken on other issues, which she has no right to do. It makes me wonder why she set up MN in the first place, was it just to spout her politics and to get them across to those in power? Certainly the Guardian of which her husband is assistant editor has a lot of power for a paper with a very poor circulation.
The woman should speak for herself and not others!

Oh for gods sake. You're obsessed with The Guardian! It's hilarious.

clam · 11/07/2011 22:49

I didn't care for the NOTW; I didn't read it.
You don't care for MN; stay off it.

complimentary · 11/07/2011 22:53

Clam. Who are you addressing? I don't care much for Roberts views! but MN? I love itGrin

PPPop · 11/07/2011 22:53

I think you are overreacting. Justine says that sympathy is with the workers not the bosses so hardly crowing about it. Mumsnet often talk in the press about what the general themes are on the website, why is this so different?

noddyholder · 11/07/2011 22:54

I don't think it is about them getting caught good and proper. They cannot close every paper where these methods were used.

PPPop · 11/07/2011 22:55

Its her website, she can do whatever she wants! Go and do your own blog if you want to represent yourself precisely.

BecauseImWorthIt · 11/07/2011 22:55

Why are you here, complimentary? You obviously don't like it, and you are being unspeakbly rude about Justine, one of the founders of the site.

Stop lumping Justine in with her husband. She's not joined at the hip to him and has her own views and beliefs.

I think, from the posts on this subject on MN over the last few days, it is not unreasonable to state that most MNetters think that what the NoTW has done is beyond despicable.

Or do you think otherwise?

complimentary · 11/07/2011 22:57

PPPop. I don't object to Justine Roberts speaking on general themes, but I feel she should not say her views are representative of all the users of MN. That is it.

OP posts:
WinkyWinkola · 11/07/2011 22:57

Midship fee who is "they"? Murdoch closed HIS OWN PAPER. He didn't have to.

And yes, it matters massively who gets caught.

WinkyWinkola · 11/07/2011 23:00

Midshipfee? God i hate auto correct.

I mean NoddyHolder.

And then there are those dodgy police officers. Or does it not matter which ones get caught because there are many more at the same corrupt business?

noddyholder · 11/07/2011 23:01

Well if everyone and every paper employing these methods loses their job/is closed there will be no press in this country! They are the 1st to be exposed for these methods but according to official figures they are nowhere near top of the list for using this sort of thing to get a story. You can like MN and disagree with Justine you know Smile

PPPop · 11/07/2011 23:02

She doesn't say they are her views. You have inferred that. She may dearly miss the notw for all we know.
