Any catholic church you are aware of, which gives the whole holy communion, not just the wafer ....I need one in Surrey

I cannot understand why only the bread. The last supper was in the two elements

Well, I see it's because of covid but this has gone now

Covid is not gone. Some of us are still in as much danger as we were 5 years ago.

Please remember that when you spread Covid, you might be fine, but other people that you encounter just trying to live their lives will not.

that said, I know some churches are using individual cups. I don’t know of locations so I can’t help with that.

Thistooshallpsss · 21/07/2025 20:19

Methodists have both but use little glasses as the wine is non alcoholic when Methodism was started the gin palaces were the scourge of the working classes so Methodism is teetotal or used to be.

Most churches are avoiding wine because of transferring disease

Not any more. We’ve had chalices back for several years.

Because technically they are both Jesus. Body, blood souls and divinity. (I think the phrase is.) so you can have one or the other or both. It doesn’t actually matter.

Turtles all the way down!

I would love a non denominational, baptist or one with good sermon which does regular communion as Jesus did. May be wanting too much.

Edited

This is so strange.

One minute you’re a practicing catholic now you’re in search of a whole new denomination simply for a bit of wine.

Candlesandmatches · 21/07/2025 21:01

In the Catholic Church it’s considered full holy communion to just have the host. Also you need to be in a state of grace.
Are you Catholic?

alsobigofboob · 21/07/2025 21:02

@Takemybrainawaycareful, I got called rude earlier by @UrbanOasisfor kind of hinting the same thing (a lack of understanding of Communion). I agree with you though.

eggandonion · 21/07/2025 21:04

We have neighbours who have their own personal religion and a few people come round on Sunday for a prayer meeting and bible study. They have communion. Like early Christianity.
I don't know whether they believe in Transubstantiation though.

TheFallenMadonna · 21/07/2025 21:06

The OP has said she is not RC, but from a denomination that allows intercommunion, which I assume must be Orthodox? Are there any others?

TheGentleButFirmMadonna · 21/07/2025 21:22

Orthodox and they all invite me to take communion. Full grace also. But I need to understand the logic, because orthodox church always gives both elements

Wine was always offered in our (RC) church. It just never came back after Covid. It’s still offered when the children make their first holy communion. I can’t say I miss it. As others have said the bread is enough.

Toddlerteaplease · 22/07/2025 09:31

The OP’s own church may allow communion in other denominations. But the RC church does not. So they should not receive in the RC church.

No, we are in full communion with the Roman catholics

That's another type of communion. Full communion for my original church means that catholics give us communion as in bread and wine

If you're Orthodox and there are Orthodox churches in Surrey, why do you want to go to a Catholic one....?

No, I’m a cradle Catholic and we were never given wine at communion time.

I'm not sure am I orthodox or eastern Catholic, have to ask my mother....it has been a long time and I left 20 years ago. It was just a village church

There are particular churches that are in "full communion" with the RCC...e.g. the Armenian Catholic Church, which has its own particular liturgical rites.

OP, it strikes me that you're trying to solve this problem theoretically on Mumsnet. Wouldn't it help ti pick up the phone and ring round a few Catholic Churches in the area to explain and ask? Or just call the local bishop? He should know the parish priests and where to direct you for both worship and welcome.

Toddlerteaplease · 23/07/2025 14:31

@semideponentthe local bishop won’t know specifically who’s offering CUBS. You’d only get their secretary anyway! (My friend is a bishop!)

That's such a shame.

Toddlerteaplease · 23/07/2025 15:04

Most churches do offer it now anyway.

kirstysmbc · 23/07/2025 15:37

I’m in Woking and our church offers both bread and wine at communion at each service I’ve been too.

Ah that makes sense. Well if you're Byzantine Catholic, it's wise to keep your rite, you can get divorced and still take communion...among other things.

It's possible to get divorced in the RC church too. It's getting divorced and remarried that's a bar (theoretically) to receiving Holy Communion, as contrary to the Bible. There's a way out of this painful situation, which is having the marriage annulled i.e. judged as being not a true marriage in the first place e.g. one of the couple being immature. or not understanding what they were taking on.
