There’s been quite a few reports of Christian protesters at a large gathering of practitioners/followers/followers/scholars of paganism/witchcraft/the occult/magic in London recently. Apparently telling people (including children) they were going to hell. I wasn’t there, I’ve just heard this off quite a few different people.

Personally, I know many Christians (generally not that orthodox-with a small o) who practice magic and work with the occult sciences. I’ve never really come across anyone objecting to my practices.

But I know many in the US have met with quite a bit of opposition where there’s more fundamentalist mentality.

Im interested to hear what Christians really think of these things. Were these people just loons with megaphones or do they represent a general perception amongst Christians.

@Kdtym10, I see. Takes some unpicking, which is what I have thought before from what I have read of the Gnostic gospels. My solution has been to concentrate on Christ's teachings and the New Testament more and to pray the prayers I posted earlier. And I can believe in faith they will be answered since I am essentially praying for God's will to be done and seeking unity with Him in Christ. 🙂

I think everyone finds things that click with them, maybe my ADHD mind is better at darting all over the place😂

@Kdtym10, well this again is stuff I studied years ago but what I recall is any narrative containing conversation was extremely difficult. Even their concept of number was compromised.

Last post in reference to the Piraha research.

I’m definitely going to look this up. It’s interesting re numbers. Obviously many cultures didn’t have numerals so used letters in their stead. If u you oi start dipping into Gematria then it reveals a whole new level of creation.

@Kdtym10, it's certainly a very interesting study.

@Kdtym10, can be a useful skill to harness if you can master it. 😉

I was musing when I awoke regarding the discussion earlier on in this thread concerning allegory with regard to the accounts in The New Testament.

The thing is I regard real life to contain allegory, symbolism and all the features of narrative since art reflects life. Simply engaging with those accounts in the Bible and comparing their significance to the context of our own lives employs allegory.

As written here:
"2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; ..." (Hebrews 12:2)

And in my own life pieces of scripture come to the fore for me just at the right moment. (I don't need to seek out signs 😉).

For example only this year I had (my recently annual) sunscreen melt down...which brand? Chemical worries, crossing the skin barrier, allergens, breaking down on the skin? Environment effects? Hormonal effects? Vitamin D? Sunscreen sensitivity, sun sensitivity? How much to apply, how often? I'm fair skinned and blonde and can burn. Looking at all the research, advice, analysing it. Again and again! Then my church read out Psalm 121. These lines sprung out:

"...the Lord is your shade at your right hand;
6
the sun will not harm you by day,
 nor the moon by night."

And I laughed with relief! Stopped the obsessing continued to use my long lasting usual reef safe brand as I have done for years.😁

Yes I’ve started reading some of the study snd surrounding materials. I’m quite interested re the recursive language or arguably lack thereof and what it does re individuality and creativity - hopefully I’ll find some commentary

I think that’s true. It’s like those halls of mirrors, where everything is a reflection of a reflection. It’s hard to tell the original source

It’s hard to tell the original source

@Kdtym10, I don't think looking for the oldest writing is as important as examining the source of it. 😉

@Kdtym10, maybe you could have a discussion with your English department about it.

Ha, no English department here lol! Last studied English literature at 16 which was errr some time ago😀😂😂

Well precisely and just as we think we’ve found the original source we realise it is itself only a reflection

@Kdtym10 oh, sorry, I think I misunderstood from when you were talking earlier about a course you recently attended. I assumed you were connected with a university.
