Not sure if I want to be in heaven with all the goody goodies. I used to have a very strong faith. But now I'm not exactly an atheist but have mega doubts.

Well hello. I have returned.

So it's no longer a thoroughly depressing corner of the internet?

Flouncers never stay flounced for long. Other you do realise that in the whole six months you've been away people haven't suddenly realised they enjoy being told they're going to hell.

VincitVeritas1 · 07/12/2023 13:26

No denying that @pointythings 😆Enjoy your festivities.

I remember this thread! The one where I’m told I’ll go to hell - regardless of not believing in the concept and happy as an atheist!

Welcome back @Parker231 That's not exactly the message I wanted to get across! As we discussed before, a personal lack of belief doesn't mean that you can create an alternative reality. It's a bit like jumping into a shark tank, telling yourself "It's ok, they're not really there!" and expecting not to get bitten.

@copiley695 Yes, it is still thoroughly depressing - all the more reason to shine a light into this gloomy corner of the internet!

I've now started another thread to continue the discussion:

Will you make it to Heaven? Cont. | Mumsnet

Feel free to join me in a discussion about Heaven according to the Holy Bible/ Christianity in general.

medianewbie · 07/12/2023 13:31

85-99% likely, according to that 'test'. But, still not good enough as 'all your righteousness is like filthy rags'. I don't think this test shows the right criteria. I think God will give access to heaven to those who try to be good, fail, pick themselves back up & try again (repent, restitution where poss, good works if not learn & do better next time) & repeat. And we need to keep trying to be good to our fellow (wo)man, planet, other species until the day we die.
Of course, another view of hell is not the fiery depths that is the opposite of the fluffy heavens but living separated from God & the promise of life to come.

copiley695 · 07/12/2023 13:41

The website has been posting some interesting stuff in your absence too. Fun lighthearted stuff about the was in Israel fufilling some end of days prophecy and how the anti-Christ is coming and homosexuality is an abomination that will cause the end of the world. 😂😂😂

Parker231 · 07/12/2023 13:47

@Vincitveritas - I’m not creating an alternative reality. Hell (or heaven) doesn’t exist and you can’t threaten someone with hell for not believing - hardly the characteristics of the supposedly good religious people! I’d class you as morally inferior!

@Vincitveritas flouncers are rarely gone for long

You must be psychic.

eluveitie · 19/01/2024 14:00

I think OP's bold return to this thoroughly depressing corner of the Internet may have been rather short lived.

Parker231 · 19/01/2024 15:33

@Thegreatestoftheseislove - so as an atheist you believe I’ll be going to hell? (Which btw doesn’t exist).

Hi Parker231: It's really not up to me as to your future. If you don't believe something exists then I shouldn't worry about it, and I certainly wouldn't be concerned about anyone else's opinions either way.

They got the answers to Athame wrong. It's a ceremonial dagger. Their answers were:

A small ornamental box
A type of building developed by the Romans which is today know as an Annex
A type of building developed by the Romans which is today know as an Annex
A small type of kayak used by the Inuit Minor tribe on Saint James island in the Arctic Circle, that is well suited to hauling seals.

I got 44% pagan, thought this bit was rude though! (I used to be a Wiccan, now I'm LDS! Thought I'd have been hanged as witch or burnt as a heretic at various points in history for my beliefs.) There's a witchy shop near where I live and I love going in there. There was a different one before that closed a few years ago, 😟 and some of my fellow church goers said they felt it was evil. I loved that shop, I always felt so calm and peaceful when I went in there, as I do when I go into the new witchy shop, or old churches or the Temple. Less so when I go to my church, because I go there all the time, and I suppose it's not as special anymore.

Well at least you know how to spell Pagan and could possibly recognize one; if they told you they were a Pagan... very slowly. You will require a great deal of work to become a Pagan at this point, but we honestly feel you are too dependent on others for personal reassurance in the mysteries of life. You are the most dangerous type of person to our faith, and we feel you only know enough about Paganism so that you can find us to burn us at the stake. You are probably the one holding the rope... We recommend you take the quiz, How Baptist are you. Please don't burn us at the stake.

SapphireSeptember · 22/01/2024 13:41

Oh, and my likelihood to get to heaven. (Which one? We have three!)

You scored in the 65-85% range.

SapphireSeptember · 22/01/2024 13:52

It's alright atheists, my church says even wrong 'uns get to go to some type of heaven, so as long as you're decent you'll be alright. Outer Darkness (what we call Hell) is for Satan and his followers.

pointythings · 22/01/2024 15:39

@SapphireSeptember I did find the ashamed question irritating, but felt a bad quiz was in fact a fair counter to OP's equally bad quiz.

I don't believe in any kind of afterlife, so I don't need ersatz heaven.

"Do you ever lust after the opposite sex?" - well I am a married woman of reproductive age. And I do like my husband quite a lot. So of course! What a silly question!

Agree - the questions are stupid! I’d be worried about relationships if we weren’t lusting after the opposite sex! And the church/religion is so wrong on their views on same sex relationships. My friends (only two religious people I know), in a same sex relationship have not been allowed to get married in church. Personally I can’t understand why they still follow a religion.

UltimateTantrum · 28/01/2024 21:28

@Parker231 to be honest for my family it's less about following the rules and more about community, caring for one another and tradition. Legalistic personalities and nosy people trying to police each other have ruined Christianity in my opinion.

Community, caring for one another and tradition aren’t the prerogative of religion. In my opinion organised religion operates like a dangerous cult.

Well I didn't ask for your opinion. A lot of things operate badly. Like the government or big businesses for example. But they're still going aren't they?

Parker231 · 28/01/2024 21:47

It’s a forum - everyone can make their opinion

UltimateTantrum · 28/01/2024 21:54

@Parker231 and like you have the right to say your opinion I have the right to tell you where to stick said opinion!
