The message from jesus and his holy gang is be good to each other. Don't steal stuff don't hurt others.

Yes, and bless those who persecute you, do good to those who hate you.

In the million or so years hominids have roamed the earth you think we haven't come to those conclusion already?

Of course we have. As the Bible puts it, it's written on our hearts.

I’m bad then - hurt me or my family and I won’t forgive and would want you to be punished. Am happy with this.

Well, I'd want justice too. I don't think that's 'bad'.

No that was your brain deoxygenating.

Maybe so! Even so, you'll love it.

ChickenRat · 18/05/2023 08:18

This has been genuinely interesting. I'm Anglican but feel like the Church of England doesn't meet my needs anymore. The second quiz told me I'm 45% pagan and to be honest I'd like to explore that a bit

speakout · 18/05/2023 08:28

ChickenRat there is a long running thread on this site if you are interested in paganism and witchcraft.

Well done OP, you have converted someone... away from Christianity. 😆

pointythings · 18/05/2023 19:37

@ChickenRat the central tenet of paganism is 'do no harm'. You can't go far wrong with that, enjoy your discoveries.

I certainly like the sound of that! I gather paganism is very nature focused which appeals to me

I'm also looking into spiritualism, basically just keeping an open mind about anything really

pointythings · 18/05/2023 19:55

My foster son's fiancee is a pagan. She's absolutely lovely. There are many flavours of paganism, you just have to find a group that's right for you.

speakout · 18/05/2023 20:01

Paganism includes many systems of belief and practice.
Often earth based, nature loving, linking back to ancient times and healing ways, when women were considered equals to men , with no authority to think homo sapiens had dominion over the natural world.
I am a pagan and a witch.

That’s great, there’s so much out there to look into, I like John Michael Greer on modern Druidism, he has been very much focused on ecology since the 70s really. Very clever chap.

if you like the context of Christian symbolism there’s lots out there, you might want to look into western esotericism-it’s quite a departure from Cof E.

or like @speakout says there’s the long running thread(s) on here about witchcraft that seem v friendly )not really my practice though).

Good luck in finding the right path for you.

If you’re ever in London I can recommend Watkins Books near Covent Garden or Treadwells or the Atlantic Bookshop near the British Museum if you want to browse books on various topics. You’ll find something calling to you

pointythings · 18/05/2023 20:41

I love the turn this thread has taken. Openness and a call to exploration. Brilliant.

Will you make it to Heaven?
OMG12 · 18/05/2023 22:30

Exactly, maybe we will all get to heaven once we realise it’s of our own creation

Vincitveritas · 18/05/2023 22:33

If God doesn't believe anyone deserves hell he doesn't have to send them there. Or even make it in the first place.

@watmel I see your point and often ponder this too. I suppose it comes back to trust.

I would have undoubtedly been condemned and probably executed as a heretic at many points in history.

@OMG12 I'm saying nothing. 😜

@poweredbysteam Oh dear, another one looking for a fight. Please move along.

@Parker231
I’m interested - I don’t need a religion in my life but intrigued as to why others do.

That's fair enough.

Still don’t understand what CS Lewis has to do with real life.

I tried to explain before. If you're not aware, CS Lewis was a Christian. His Narnia stories have a very Christian theme, for example, Aslan represents Jesus Christ. He had unbelievers in mind himself when he wrote that extract about the Dwarfs.

Nor am I. I can't read the Narnia books at all now, they've been thoroughly spoiled for me. His portayal of Islam is horrific.

@pointythings Do you mean the use of the racial slur beginning with D? Or the Calormenes in general?

You'll doubtless disagree with most of this but this, but anyway:

www.narniaweb.com/resources-links/are-the-chronicles-of-narnia-sexist-and-racist

But how could a human not have free will? We'd be more like sophisticated computers or something.

@Mustardseed86 I quite agree.

This has been genuinely interesting. I'm Anglican but feel like the Church of England doesn't meet my needs anymore.

@ChickenRat I see you've recently created your own thread in relation to this. I think that would be a more appropriate place to post.

The poster wants to explore Paganism based on the quiz you posted on this thread. It's a perfectly inappropriate place.

speakout · 19/05/2023 06:25

I can't see how ChickenRat has done anything wrong.

OP you urged people to take the quiz, and there were results. It is natural for a discussion about the outcomes to follow.
Paganism was one of the outcomes of the quiz. So in fact you introduced the subject of paganism.

Are we only allowed to discuss our results if they match your ideology?

speakout · 19/05/2023 06:31

The quiz itself contains sone extremely suspect questions.

Do you fail to submit to your parent's authority?

Seriously?

Using God as a swear word?

Isn't god big enough to take that one?

He seems to have a particular bee in his bonnet about this. Out of all the bad things, he named this number 3 of the worst things you can do #egomaniac/contolfreak/clearlymadeupbyabloke

Agreed. ChickenRat's comments are entirely on topic.

Vincitveritas seems to only welcome those who conform to her ideology.
