Realise that there is a huge amount of negativity and vitriol on here atm with regards to the Pope's visit. However mumsnet is for all and there are plenty of Catholics who are pleased to see him here. This is a thread to celebrate this. I was really moved at the reaction of people in Glasgow yesterday. It was so emotional to see the babies hepd up for his blessing, he really did radiate a serene presence. Love his message as well, it is time to be proud to be a Christian. Hope all those going to see him have a fantastic time.

I'm not a Catholic, I'm not even a Christian as such, but yes, I was moved, too. Dd1 was off sick so we watched the television coverage together. Good way for her to learn some history as well.

AgentProvocateur · 17/09/2010 09:13

Yeah, me too. I'm not religious at all and I was moaning and mumping about the travel inconvenience and having to change my plans, but I came home and the DC were watching the coverage, and I did find it moving.

Of course, it helped that the sun was shining - Edinburgh and Glasgow both look much better in the sun!

And I always find mass singing (as in lots of people - not the religious ceremony) emotional.

The pope is visiting my daughters uni today, I'm praying she gets to see him. I think he's wonderful.

bamboostalks · 17/09/2010 10:21

Agree that the weather did help, it is always great to see people united together in hope. I had my ticket for Strawberry Hill but am one day over my due date so thought it was too far to risk it...even for the Pope!

I was going to start this thread but it's already here Smile

I was watching the BBC news with DH last night and it was wonderful! It was so great just seeing the crowds and knowing that there ARE LOTS of people out there who still want to celebrate being Catholic. The crowd singing 'Salve Regina' while waiting for the Pope to land in London gave me goosebumps.

The BBC have gone up 100% in my estimation for their reporting so far, they are normally so anti-Catholic, but their reporting so far has been very well balanced.

I am so, so glad that the Pope is here - my faith feels all renewed Grin and I actually think that bringing all the negativity people have out into the open will be a good thing for the church in the long run.

Hullygully · 17/09/2010 10:32

the babies hepd up

Piles of babies? Goodness.

Hullygully · 17/09/2010 10:34

I absolutely love the pope. He is such a lovely lovely caring man and not one bit a dress-wearing, woman-hating, paedophile-protecting nazi at all. Not one bit.

Praise be.

FreddoBaggyMac · 17/09/2010 10:41

Glad you've been converted Hully Smile

Hullygully · 17/09/2010 10:42

Hallelujah.

I haven't been converted. I have been born again, we had a revival in the park two weeks ago and it was a revelation.

Praise be.

daftpunk · 17/09/2010 10:54

HG; this is a thread to celebrate the pope. There will probably only be about 5 people posting on it. Do you think it's appropriate to come on here and say the things you are saying?

There's at least 3 pope bashing threads on here atm, why don't you go and post on those?

Hullygully · 17/09/2010 10:56

Praise him.

He is a love. Let him lie down with the lamb.

daftpunk · 17/09/2010 11:00

What a total arse you are. I always suspected it, now I'm in no doubt.

Hullygully · 17/09/2010 11:01

Glory be. You seem to have hate in your heart. It makes popey sad.

daftpunk · 17/09/2010 11:05

You are so embarrassing I'm cringing for you.

seeker · 17/09/2010 11:10

Where are thePope bashing threads? I was looking for one earlier and I couldn't find one!

FreddoBaggyMac · 17/09/2010 11:11

DP, I think ignoring such posts is the best option otherwise we're just doing what the poster has intended and diverting the course of the thread... and it is certainly a nice change to have a few pro-Pope threads on here Smile

littlebabynothing · 17/09/2010 11:16

I'm at a loss to understand how anyone can be pro-pope, even if you are Catholic. fwiw I thought Hully was funny!

daftpunk · 17/09/2010 11:16

Oh I know FBM, but I still fall into the traps sometimes, (and they know that) will ignore all future ones. Smile

Hullygully · 17/09/2010 11:18

Now I am crying too. I offer you love in his name in the highest.

FreddoBaggyMac · 17/09/2010 11:21

Littlebabynothing, I support the Pope because he is (according to people that know him and not the newspapers) a very gentle and quiet man who is extremely intelligent and stands by what he believes in. I also support him because he is Christ's representative on earth. As a Catholic, I support his visit because it gives me an excuse to celebrate what I believe in and lets me see that a lot of other people want to do the same!

Hullygully · 17/09/2010 11:22

I support him because he is so sweet in his dress and is very holy and doesn't want anyone (except homosexuals and women) to suffer.

Hallelujah.

catinthehat2 · 17/09/2010 12:42

Have you been drinking HG?

Hullygully · 17/09/2010 12:47

why? Because I love the pope????? How weird!! Doncha think he's just a cutie-pie?

daftpunk · 17/09/2010 12:58

Think you could be right catinthehat. totally bizarre postings.....by anyones standards.

Hullygully · 17/09/2010 13:00

Peace be upon you, my little popette
