I love seeing my girl run - she is extremely happy when she’s off lead and she has brilliant recall, so it’s a no from me.

Why would keeping dogs on leads keep our parks and beaches safe?

The problem isn't dogs, it is owners who don't train their dogs. My WCS is highly trained ie walks to heel off lead when called, never runs up to other dogs or people and isnt aggressive so it just wouldn't be fair on her to have to experience life on a lead. However thar has taken 2 years of training and frankly most dog owners can't be arsed to put that effort in.
I do think there should be some form of licence to own a dog whereby you are mandated to attend minimum 12 weeks training however this still wouldn't target or capture the type of owners who are the issue.

Banning men from parks and beaches would make them a lot safer than banning dogs would.

They should always be on leads in a public area, so it's a yes from me.

I don’t disagree that out of control dogs are an increasing problem, but it sounds as though the ones that killed the woman the other day were on leads.

I was a dog walker for almost a decade. I can count on one hand the amount of aggressive/fighting incidents amongst my dog clients. The dog walker who was killed made huge mistakes, too many dogs, too much size discrepancy amongst the dogs she took. Locals said she was regularly seen doing this and someone close to her admitted it too. It was a disaster waiting to happen. I am not victim blaming, but I was aghast when I read what her practices were.

Signed.

I was almost attacked, circled by two large barking dogs, with two young children, and the owner not within sight. The owner did appear but I dread to think what might have happened.

I'd sign one that banned children from chasing pigeons though

Same here, it’s a no from me too.

And the case in Surrey sounded like the dogs were on leads so sadly would not have helped.

Parks and beaches belong to everyone, not just those who don’t like dogs. Too bad if you don’t like them. You can stay home if you’re so worried.

Totally agree. Ban men from public areas. We would all be a hell of a lot safer

A large number of dog attacks happen in their own homes so no.

The problem isn’t dogs being off lead, it’s untrained dogs being off lead and/or owners who won’t accept that their dog isn’t well trained enough to be off lead.

My dog is always on his lead as he’s only a pup but we’ve had so many dogs off lead coming running over to him and owners just ignoring them jumping etc. It’s not a dog problem it’s an owner problem!
