Catch a grip of yourself, there are bigger problems in this world than a wonderful animal enjoying life and freedom.
Not all dogs are dangerous or disobedient

NeuroWasabi · 15/01/2023 21:47

No thanks.

Rules for dangerous dog breeds and stiff penalties for those who abuse animals. There's a dog local to me which is beaten, left outside all year etc, neighbours have evidence, police and RSPCA have done sweet FA and it's been ongoing for probably over a year now... I wouldn't blame the dog if it bit someone.

Whiskeypowers · 15/01/2023 21:52

No
it will never happen nor should it since the target audience will ignore it anyway and the real reason for these dogs attacking - their fuckwit owners - won’t be dealt with via this measure

Mansbestfriend2023 · 15/01/2023 21:55

@Whiskeypowers oh yeah there will always be people that break the law sadly.

@Cherylsleatherjacketdoesntfit of course there’s worse problems absolutely correct. Dog attacks is an issue we can do something about though… And not everyone thinks dogs are wonderful nor do they want them bounding up to them

@Whiskeypowers oh yeah there will always be people that break the law sadly.

it isn’t just about breaking the law in its purest sense

its about tosspots having dogs and not understanding the commitment and responsibility that comes with them most of it not legal sadly: adequate exercise, good diet, training, socialisation, mental and physical stimulation, veterinary care and accepting a dog is as
much to care for as a child is really. Oh and knowing their own limits, capability and acting accordingly. All of the above on a preemptive and ongoing basis

If those aspects of dog ownership were really tackled you’d not need to worry about them being off lead

But those that are can be letal and these are just three of the victims that were lucky enough to survive.

MadameDe · 15/01/2023 22:07

Definitely not for me. The worst my dog does when off lead is sit in front of another human and wait to be stroked. Not all dogs have the same temperament.

Youdoyoubabe · 15/01/2023 22:08

Mmmm its a no from me.

GuyFawkesDay · 15/01/2023 22:13

@Mansbestfriend2023 but I am a member of the public.

And I own a working breed. And intend to work him. On weekends.

Though TBH I also have gone to a fair few lengths and expense to train him. Today I have had three people say "ooh isn't he well trained" or "what a good dog".

I've just taught him manners. He sits and waits when walkers/cyclists/cars go by when we are without pavements. He walks to heel (mostly). He waits before approaching other dogs (he knows 'say hi').

There should be competence measure on dog ownership. Compulsory training maybe. The number of dogs with awful recall and no manners is, I agree, horrendous. Ditto the fouling. Today I picked up loads of other dogs poo when's I was out!

It's NOT the dogs that are the problem. The humans are the issue that need tackling.

Namechange828492 · 15/01/2023 22:13

I agree although acknowledge it's the idiot owners not the responsible ones who are spoiling it for everyone. Saw a dog inside a kids' play park the other day 🙄

Banning men from parks and beaches would make them a lot safer than banning dogs would.

This

Was126orbustandmaybebust · 15/01/2023 22:23

And another three who were lucky enough to survive and if I felt like there was any point I could keep posting from now until the morning and not run out of victims pictures who survived, I cannot post pictures of those who did not survive because they are too horrific to be seen. I know one person who died following a family dog attack. Despite the doctors amputating a limb to try and save her life it was fruitless.

This. I'd sign that petition!

Witchymcwitch · 15/01/2023 22:43

Nope 🙄
Ridiculous suggestion. Would course more problems than it solved.

Witchymcwitch · 15/01/2023 22:43

*cause

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 15/01/2023 22:47

Not a chance am I signing that.

gogohmm · 15/01/2023 22:49

No thanks, ddog is fully trained to avoid people and animals, can be told to lie down at a distance, sent in different directions and has near perfect recall. Why should he pay for incompetent owners

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 15/01/2023 22:49

Mansbestfriend2023 · 15/01/2023 19:24

I do appreciate that there are good dog owners and good dogs who will be inconvenienced by this but I think the sacrifice is worth it to save lives. 8000 dog attacks year in the U.K.! It’s terrifying.

Me and my dog and every other well behaved dog disagree

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 15/01/2023 22:50

BethDuttonsTwin · 15/01/2023 19:32

How about almost all beaches, that ban dogs between the months of May to September?

This.

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 15/01/2023 22:51

Mansbestfriend2023 · 15/01/2023 21:36

@Haveagentlechristmas no I’m a human being, much more important than a dog.

Says who? Humans are the ones destroying the world not dogs

gogohmm · 15/01/2023 22:54

But dog walkers should not be allowed to walk more than 1 dog if the combined weight is over 50kg thus can walk 1 large dog, 2 medium and 3/4 small, max 4 dogs whatever the weight. Owners should also be restricted to 2 dogs unless under 12kg

BethDuttonsTwin · 15/01/2023 23:36

Mansbestfriend2023 · 15/01/2023 21:21

@UncleQuentinsWife yes I’m sure there is. But I can keep away from those in homes. I can’t keep away from dogs running up to me in parks. The latest attack was at a Tesco though…

Yes and I read that a man has been taken into custody suspected of GBH with intent, which suggests that he set the dog upon the woman. Tell the whole truth, not just the bit that supports your agenda.

twistyizzy · 16/01/2023 00:29

Mansbestfriend2023 · 15/01/2023 21:41

@DillDanding yes you’re probably right. I just feel powerless and scared out of the house whenever a dog is near (which is most of the time). I just wish dog owners would be a little less selfish and not inflict their dogs on others. Most dog owners are a bit blind when it comes to their mutts

You've just proved the point of why it is the owners to blame not the dogs. Lazy owners who can't be arsed to train their dogs but why should all dogs suffer because of these owners? Some of us are responsible and train our dogs so they they don't go running up to people, have great recall etc. You should petition for the regulation of dog ownership not the wholesale dogs on a lead.
You also realise that most dog attacks occur in the home?

sensiblepetra · 16/01/2023 02:38

The problem with this petition is that it appears to be most concerned with the impact of dogs off the lead attacking other dogs, or uncastrated dogs. I can't see it getting anywhere on that basis alone.
