No. Why don’t you campaign for responsible ownership and regulation of breeding, you should need to pass a test before you’re allowed any pet, to demonstrate know how to take care of a pet correctly.

maeveiscurious · 15/01/2023 19:04

Nope, we go to a field where people bring their children and play organised sport. My lively dog chases her ball, barks at her ball and the running the joyful running.

We have lived with dogs for 3 millennia and they adore humans.

Putting them in a lead is sad and unkind.

sensiblepetra · 15/01/2023 19:04

I'm sure all dogs are happy running free in public places, and if you're a responsible dog owner with a well trained dog, all well and good. Unfortunately that's not always the case.

thirdtimeluckyorwhat · 15/01/2023 19:03

Totally agree. Ban men from public areas. We would all be a hell of a lot safer

Indeed. Let’s ban cars too. Someone in an Audi rammed a motorbike earlier today. Thousands of people killed in accidents each year. Get rid of them.

maddy68 · 15/01/2023 19:04

Dogs need freedom too.

The problem isn’t dogs being off lead, it’s untrained dogs being off lead and/or owners who won’t accept that their dog isn’t well trained enough to be off lead.

My dog is always on his lead as he’s only a pup but we’ve had so many dogs off lead coming running over to him and owners just ignoring them jumping etc. It’s not a dog problem it’s an owner problem!

I agree. Exactly this.

Nottodaty · 15/01/2023 19:05

Sadly no - it’s owners.

i have a well trained spaniel- has no interest in other dogs yet the amount of others dogs that come running towards her - owners not recalling. Imagine being a person and another stranger running towards you. How would you react?

My dog ignores, ignores, grumbles a bit by which point I’ve shouted at owner to recall & by the 4/5th time being run out/barked at/ trying to ‘play’ she eventually will give a firm grr and snap (never biting). Shocked owner realises their dog is not trained while mine is recalled to heal & sat next to me - waiting for release.

Every walk is badly trained OWNERS with their dogs.

NeedAHoliday2021 · 15/01/2023 19:05

I think that’s cruel for working breeds. My cocker spaniel with perfect recall would have such a limited life stuck on a lead. I don’t know what the answer is overall though because obviously there are dogs that shouldn’t be family pets and probably owners who shouldn’t be in charge of a goldfish and certainly not a dog!

i understand the fear but anyone who knows dogs would also know they have different needs depending on the bread.

vodkaredbullgirl · 15/01/2023 19:05

🙄

Battlecat98 · 15/01/2023 19:06

Signed. I agree that dogs should be on leads in public areas.

Reugny · 15/01/2023 19:06

Nope not signing it.

I have been around large and medium sized dogs who are clearly under the control of their owner and off lead, and medium and small sized dogs who are on a lead but out of control.

The dogs myself and my DD have been bitten by have been on long leads.

Babyroobs · 15/01/2023 19:06

No.

WildFlowerBees · 15/01/2023 19:06

Christ yet another I hate dogs thread, can these get in the bin with Harry's shite.

Shitzngiggles · 15/01/2023 19:07

No. The recent attack the dogs were on leads. We need more controls surrounding breeding and selling of dogs amongst other things, not pointless knee jerk reactions.
So no.

cosmiccosmos · 15/01/2023 19:07

Absolutely not. Let dogs be dogs.

Ylvamoon · 15/01/2023 19:07

It's a no from me.
There are already dog free beaches and parks where dogs need to be on a lead all the time.

Tara336 · 15/01/2023 19:07

Absolutely not

sensiblepetra · 15/01/2023 19:08

And I would add that I like dogs very much. It's not about disliking dogs. Just to address a previous post.

Same with my working cocker. he is such a good dog but hates being on the lead and will pull and pull despite training. Saw loads of other spaniels today at a country park and they were all the same. I have no intention of not letting him off lead when he is so soft and well behaved.

And not walking more than 4 dogs at a time.

crossstitchingnana · 15/01/2023 19:08

No way.

Battlecat98 · 15/01/2023 19:09

I live by a canal and the amount of dogs chasing the ducks into the water. It's horrible. It's a shame some owners are good, some not so much. Also, it seems that the dogs run so far along the canal the owners don't realise it has pooed, cue loads of poo along the bank, including hanging bags of it in the trees.

YellowAndGreenToBeSeen · 15/01/2023 18:54

I love seeing my girl run - she is extremely happy when she’s off lead and she has brilliant recall, so it’s a no from me.

This . A definite no from me.
Dogs need to run and play , where are they to do that if people don't have large gardens

SuperPup86 · 15/01/2023 19:10

Ha! No.

I never see the point in petitions such as this - its blatantly obvious that this will never happen. Why waste your time?

Cileymyrus · 15/01/2023 19:10

Can we ban people from parks instead?

when I take my dog he walks off lead. Potters, minds his own business, keeps an eye on me.

but because he’s small and fluffy he gets constantly harrassed. People letting their kids run up to him, chase him, people try to call him over to where they’re sitting. I’ve had people ask if they can pick him up for a cuddle.
