I must be really lucky when out and about as despite living in a working-class, relatively rough area I can count the number of times I have been approached by a strange dog on one hand.

It's only ever an issue when I am with my own dogs and in those cases it is my dogs who are being approached not me.

Our parks and beaches are relatively shit free too and pretty much everyone adheres to leash laws and avoid areas where dogs are not allowed.

@Quveas oh yes I agree humans are terrible. Apparently big dogs are worse than cars for the environment too though. I think we do need to question why we own so many dogs (13 million!!!) when we are trying to take steps to tackle climate change.

Also lots of dog owners would support all dogs on lead. The person who started this petition is a dog owner…..

I’m by no means a dog hater myself. My brother, friends, grandparents and neighbours all have dogs. They only let them off lead in gardens and dog parks.

@UncleQuentinsWife yes I’m sure there is. But I can keep away from those in homes. I can’t keep away from dogs running up to me in parks. The latest attack was at a Tesco though…

What an absolutely ridiculous request, a complete overreaction. It's an absolute NO from me. I've had dogs for 40 years and never come across a dangerous dog on our walks.

If you want dogs on leads, why not ban men from going out after dark as they are much more dangerous. Or perhaps balls should be banned because they cause injuries. Or let's ban horse-riding as that's dangerous, horses can throw you off or trample you. Perhaps cars should be banned to stop RTC fatalities.

@DillDanding yes you’re probably right. I just feel powerless and scared out of the house whenever a dog is near (which is most of the time). I just wish dog owners would be a little less selfish and not inflict their dogs on others. Most dog owners are a bit blind when it comes to their mutts
