Here we are on the fourth instalment of crazy misspellings, misuse of words and all the other topsy-turvy attempts at literacy from the illiterate.

Yes, that’s the one.

I was just reading that one. I'm still struggling to understand what the poster was actually trying to say, as all this box talk has me confused.

CaptainMyCaptain · 14/10/2026 16:14

It doesn't make sense because 'epiphany' wasn't even the right word. She hasn't had an epiphany she's in a quandary (and has been ruptured).

Howinthehelldidthishappen · 14/10/2026 17:19

I feel like my brain has been ruptured!

Just seen another post mentioning Bare Grills.

I think more people are looking at the thread for that than the content.

At least there was an 'r' in it, the poster missed a trick there.

I came to this thread specifically to mention this. I haven't read the thread but it looks like a serious one and I wouldn't dream of mentioning it on there but ... brang!

MagpiePi · 15/10/2026 11:27

Not a SPAG observation but we've had a safety related work email today (construction industry) which made me smile, where the subject line is:

Rope access activities suspended

I'm not sure the sender intended to amuse!

”brang” and “brung” aren’t standard English (or American) but they’re not that uncommon as dialect forms.

Where do people say brang out of interest? I've lived all over the place but haven't heard this. I've also never seen it 'written' anywhere and surely the person who posted must be aware of the standard English version.

Edit: I've read the thread now and the rest of it seems perfectly grammatical so it's a bit odd.

AlbieJiggered · 15/10/2026 11:55

@CaptainMyCaptain , I've heard a very young child (with well-educated parents) say it. The child was clearly intelligent and when his teacher parent corrected him, he explained why it was brang.
I've seen it on SM.

I’ve come across it in ‘reported speech’ renderings of American dialects whereas ‘brung’ is the variant more likely to occur in England.

CaptainMyCaptain · 15/10/2026 12:00

It makes a certain kind of sense like ring/rang but I never heard in 30 years teaching. It was more likely to be bringed or brung or a confusion with brought/bought.

AlbieJiggered · 15/10/2026 12:05

@CaptainMyCaptain , the child wasn't yet school age.

Yes, it seems a likely candidate for small children to come up with when they’re at the stage of being logical rather than conventional in their grammatical constructions. It’s not obvious why ‘bring’ has the past tense ‘brought’ when ‘ring’ doesn’t become ‘rought’, is it? (FFS autocorrect, why doesn’t it have the nous to make it so hard to type that even in quotes?) Or why not ‘bringed’?
