I think the last one meant “This gem has been graciously sent to me…”

On the BBC website today:

"The plan for the Merchant's House is to turn it back into how it could of looked in the early 1600s when it was built," he said.

The privateer's raids on two Spanish vessels while under the command of Sir Drake, likely paid for the redevelopment of the Merchant's House into the timber framed building it is today, historians believe.

The 'could of' is the owner being quoted, but the Sir Drake (and a missing comma) is the bbc.

The Plymouth Herald has the same story, but makes a much better job of it.

I’ve just been reading a thread about meals made with “shelf stable” ingredients. Now, I understand that you’ll need them to be stable in the sense of not degrading quickly, but surely it’s “staple” ingredients? I’m beginning to doubt myself now!

Shelf-stable would be correct, @SerendipityCat . Staple ingredients are things like flour and sugar, shelf-stable are things like tinned food.
