A Viscous attack # 2

Catpiece · 15/08/2025 11:23

Is it okay for me to start a second thread of the highly entertaining viscous attack? Couldn’t see a sequel and don’t want to step foot on anyone’s toes
edited to add: I’m Cattery but with a name change x

The full sentence (which I probably should have quoted) was:

'Beauty feels like a word too compact and curt to contain the thousands of shards and refractions of it's essence that live in our mirrors & cameras, our skin & flesh'

Catpiece · 08/12/2025 17:13

That sentence is like a worldwind

Deborted anyone?

TerminalMoraine · 08/12/2025 22:12

I know someone who’s house is for sale.

'My sons name, it means he who laughs and hes a happy soul! I love it but I am bias.' On a baby name thread.

I don't understand the "I love it but I am bias.''. Surely, she chose the name because she liked it. The phrasing suggest they chose a random name then grew to love it.

That should be illegal 😵‍💫

‘What a polava’

My grandmother always called lavatories ’the po’ so po-lava is giving me poo-nami vibes. Kind of apt!

Chersfrozenface · 10/12/2025 15:30

"Ancestory" on another thread has a certain ring to it. A mash-up of 'ancestry' and 'history', possibly.

Catpiece · 11/12/2025 10:07

I’m just reading that women prefer men to not have unkept feet 🤭

Current thread ‘What age do you stop buying grandchildren’

Do you get them off amazon or is there a shop somewhere? I’m expecting grandchildren in the normal biological way rather than through a financial transaction. 😂

‘From’ Amazon @MagpiePi ! I’m surprised at you 🤣

@MagpiePi , you can buy them from Amazon but the delivery person just throws them on to the doorstep.

Oops.

I could say I am like a fine persian rug that has a deliberate mistake woven into it as only god is perfect.

Am feeling a bit discombobulated after reading '...other wise I'd of...'

A few years ago, my partner was telling me about a minor incident at work.
Him: "So that went down like a damp squid".
Me: "You mean squib".
Him: "Do I? Ah well it's still a fish though, right?"
Me: "No that's a squab".
Him: "Is it? Well, it went down like a damp squab then".

I still love him though.

I’ve noticed a couple of old favourites in the last few days -

”Doing my upmost”
”Trying to illicit a response”

And a new one on me from another forum, where the poster was complaining about a piece of furniture infested with “word worm”.

Catpiece · 16/12/2025 14:54

Is a word worm similar to a bookworm? I wonder…🤔

OP posts:
ACatAsleepInYourHat · 16/12/2025 18:17

Yes, I rather liked "word worm", definitely a lower status cousin to a bookworm. Another one from the same forum -

"Maintaining the status quote"

I rather like coming across these little nuggets, to be honest. They're obscurely pleasing in a small way, and don't raise my pedant's hackles in the same way as "could of" or "loosing out".

TheaBrandt1 · 23/08/2025 19:34

Just seen a hotel described as “away from the maddening crowds” which was quite sweet and actually makes more sense than the correct quote!

Just seen isn't correct either.

Just seen isn't correct either.

If it's short for "I've just seen" it's fine.

It’s not fine actually, it’s still wrong.

PendantScorner · 18/12/2025 08:45

Why is it still wrong? @Hollyhobbi
