A Viscous attack # 2

Catpiece · 15/08/2025 11:23

Is it okay for me to start a second thread of the highly entertaining viscous attack? Couldn’t see a sequel and don’t want to step foot on anyone’s toes
edited to add: I’m Cattery but with a name change x

Why is it still wrong? @Hollyhobbi

Because it is wrong? Does it actually sound right to you?

PendantScorner · 18/12/2025 08:54

@Hollyhobbi ,Because it is wrong? 'I have just seen ...' is correct.
Does it actually sound right to you? It is right and it sounds right.

*I've just seen the news.'
*I've just seen the news.'
*I've just heard the news.'

Please explain why you believe that 'I've just seen...' is incorrect.

That’s not what I said! I said ‘just seen’ is incorrect!

PendantScorner · 18/12/2025 09:04

Some clarity would have helped, @Hollyhobbi . It's shortened because, pedants or not, we can't always be bothered.

Catpiece · 18/12/2025 11:12

Ladies! “Just seen” or “I’ve just seen” is semantics. We were fully aware of what the poster meant. One can take pedantry too far unnecessarily x

It depends where the text is. In a post, I'd say it was fine.
In a Sky news standfirst, it wouldn't.

On MN, many don't pay much notice to the detail, but a news article is probably translated into many languages, and online translators are not infallible.

Cannot abide “I seen the news”

Chersfrozenface · 20/12/2025 17:50

"Have you considered exam invigorating?" as a suggestion for a job.

Personally I've always found exams more enervating than invigorating.

HopeSpringsInfernal · 20/12/2025 23:36

I've seen someone saying they can hear 'feint music' on here tonight

Chersfrozenface · 21/12/2025 07:15

In the Property section on here - "your furtive imagination".

PendantScorner · 21/12/2025 10:08

'... but not day to day involved in the mitt-gritti ...'

Brooklyn Beckham will “rule the day” he cut his parents off

A few years ago, my partner was telling me about a minor incident at work.
Him: "So that went down like a damp squid".
Me: "You mean squib".
Him: "Do I? Ah well it's still a fish though, right?"
Me: "No that's a squab".
Him: "Is it? Well, it went down like a damp squab then".

I still love him though.

A squab is a baby pigeon!

Sounds like he very much IS ruling the day from what I’ve just read. Silly boy

I don't understand the fuss about Brooklyn Beckham. Is there anything at all remarkable about him, other than who his parents are?
(cf Harry Sussex.)

According to the internet, he's a former photographer and former model, the son of a former Spice Girl and former footballer.

Don’t forget he’s a former chef too.

PendantScorner · 21/12/2025 14:06

Oh is he. He seems to have done a lot for a 26-year old.

Chersfrozenface · 21/12/2025 15:55

Someone wants to know were they being unreasonable to leave their boyfriend in the frozen isle.

Greenland? Svalbard?

LightandBreezy · 21/12/2025 16:34

@Chersfrozenface I came here to mention that one too, the thread is a lot less romantic and haunting than it sounded like it might be. He definitely deserved being left though, regardless of aisle/isle.

PendantScorner · 21/12/2025 16:39

That thread is weird.

@Chersfrozenface , Iceland?

MagpiePi · 21/12/2025 17:19

I really cba to read it, but please tell me she left him stuffed into one of the freezer chests!

Edited

Both isle and aisle being possible, of course.
