So is it pendantic to be very annoyed when DD and others insist on pronouncing FEBRUARY incorrectly?

I am SICK and TIRED of saying

"Feb - rooo - erry. NOT Feb-yery."

If DD does it again - and I swear she is now doing it deliberately to wind me up - I am going to have to disown her.

He's an art critic with somewhat reactionary views and idiosyncratic pronunciation.

lol - I believe that's how all bats speak on account of their tiny mouth openings

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 07/02/2008 16:47

I've only ever heard a bat say 'eep eep'
I thought it was very rude of him given my startling conversation opener.

But I've heard a lot of bad things about bats so maybe shouldn't have expected anything else.

IorekByrnison · 07/02/2008 16:50

It just sounds like "eep eep" because of the high frequency. If you slow it right down, they all sound like Brian Sewell.

onebatmother · 07/02/2008 16:53

lololol both of you girls.

unstressed vowels. spelling pattern

oh yes, posh people love squeezing in as many unstressed vowels and inaudible consonants as they can. It creates a coded language for quick class differentiation purposes. StJohn and what was Diana's brother's name? All that tommy rot

IorekByrnison · 07/02/2008 22:36

Oh I get it. Like Featherstone-Haugh being pronounced "fhhaaww" (I think that's the correct pronunciation...)

onebatmother · 08/02/2008 01:21

OMG I had a crush on one of those. First name Tristram.

IorekByrnison · 08/02/2008 10:16

Was it pronounced Traahhm?

IorekByrnison · 08/02/2008 10:23

Or Trism?

MrsMattie · 08/02/2008 10:24

I say 'Feb-you-airy' (runs for cover)

seeker · 08/02/2008 11:21

Isn't Tristram pronounced Chumley?
