I was just going to say see what your florist recommends. We gave him the colour scheme and asked which was the most goldy colour rose he could think of and we went with that.

babyinacorner · 01/07/2008 21:37

hello everyone - just found my way to this thread as our computer crashed last night only to be resurrected tonight.

Sim - I am having big glass fishbowls as table centrepieces and finding them cheap is a nightmare so I am hiring them from a local florist - she is only charging £3 a bowl so £30 in total - great!!

TSM - love the all white option on the flowers in your last link, beautiful.

stillovefoxes · 01/07/2008 21:39

Lovely photo's differentID, love your cake and all the dresses are gorgeous!

Hi Peasoup! Can I ask you a questionplease! There are only gong to be 8 people at my wedding (and 2 of them are children), is it worth having a photographer?

Oh SS! Maybe you could get a white baseball cap!

T42 - That is really sweet and not at all daft

babyinacorner · 01/07/2008 21:41

Love my girls - wicked idea about changing into a clubbing outfit!

You should wear it under your wedding dress then whip off your dress when the music changes

babyinacorner · 01/07/2008 21:45

SShips - not long to go now eh? You getting excited.

Could you maybe have some hair pieces put in if you are worried about it looking thin? The hairdresser said she is ading some to the back of my hair to add oomph

stillovefoxes · 01/07/2008 21:46

LOL @ image of lovemygirls stripping on the dancefloor!

TSM - that is exactly what I was thinking of! Should I wait till we are in cornwall then find a florists and show her the picture.
And I love the idea of all white flowers against your red dress

differentID · 01/07/2008 21:46

Could you give everyone disposable cameras instead of hiring a formal photographer, or approaching a local college photography department- student in final year needing a project/ experience?

stillovefoxes · 01/07/2008 21:50

I was thinking of doing the disposable camera thing and asking them to take photos throughout the day and using them to make an album when we get home.
I just cant decide if I will regret not having formal photo's done.
But then again is it really worth it?
I'm just as indecisive as you TSM!

SmallShips · 01/07/2008 21:56

weve got a small wedding and i couldnt decide if i wanted a proper photographer or not, in the end weve booked a lovely lady and are having her smallest package plus photos copied to cd for £200. I would regret not having them done i think.

BIAC - i keep thinking ive forgotten something, 10 days now yay!! How are you doing, excited??

TSM - love your 1st flower link. Very pretty.

Off to peek at DifferentIDs photos..

SmallShips · 01/07/2008 21:58

You look soooooo happy differentID, you look stunning! Your cake is gorgeous!!!!

differentID · 01/07/2008 22:10

thanks. The lady who did it for us said she would have fond memories of the challenge, but would be unlikely to repeat it.

differentID · 01/07/2008 22:14

Are you looking forward to your wedding now? By the time it got to the day before I took the attitude if it's going to go wrong now, it will and I can't do anything aboout it. I prayed for it to not rain and it didn't with th esun coming out just as I arrived at church. It had poured down the day before and rained the morning after.

peasoup · 01/07/2008 22:16

stilllovesfoxes Even tought there's only eight people you'll still want to remember it with really lovely photos. I'm sure some photographers will adjust their price according to the size of the event- I know i would. My webiste is till being constructed so sorry if some info is missing.
You can't go back and do it again, so i'd suggest that you should get a pro to do some lovely shots of you looking great and the group of eight of you together. If the photographer is just arriving to do couple shots and a few group shots then the price will be a whole lot less than if they're hanging around the whole day photographing the bride getting ready right through to the last dance. It's totally up to you of course and I don't know what your budget is but I personally got a good photogrpaher for my wedding and actually wished i'd gone the whole hog and hired a videographer too as I'd love it now to be able to pore over it and watch it again and again. we look at the photos loads cos it was such a great day (saddo!)

babyinacorner · 01/07/2008 22:16

SShips - Getting excited too -totally know what you mean about thinking you have forgotten something. I keep thinking that I can't imagine how the day is going to flow properly - I think that's the control freak in me!

peasoup · 01/07/2008 22:23

We also had disposeable cameras for our guests and the results were crap! Some were quite amusing but basically there was a small flash on each camera and you had to hold a button down and wait for the flash to charge before taking the photo and of course after a few drinks noone was reading instructions, just shooting away with no flash. As a result they were all dark and pretty rubbish. I'm not touting for business as a photographer; it's just even now i wish i had shots of some of the stuff even the pro photogrpaher missed, like the decorations we spent hours over. I would be even more unhappy if i'd forgone the pro photogrpaher altogether. Since having a baby and running a business I've barely had the chance to throw a party or put on a nice frock ever since , so i'm glad I've got a decent record of it when I did!

SmallShips · 01/07/2008 22:33

the best man is taking me out for dinner next week, for some reason, i cant really think of the wedding till that is out of the way. (no idea why)

Weve also got disposable cameras for the tables, got them cheap off ebay, so if theyre crap, i only wasted £15.

I keep checking the weather, it changes on metcheck every day, tis very annoying. Praying for sunshine for us both BIAC lol.

differentID · 01/07/2008 22:34

MEtcheck was what we used, also weatherbug and bbc. all of them gave different forecasts so we went back to the old-fashioned way of looking out of the window. lol

teafortwo · 01/07/2008 22:39

differentID - looks like a fun wedding!

Welcome Peasoup - congrats on your beautiful photographs!!!

stillovefoxes · 01/07/2008 22:39

I hope you get good weather!

Thanks for the advice peasoup, I think we will reget not having proper photos done as well.
I'll start emailing photographers to see if any of them will do just a few group and couple shots afterwards. All the websites I've been on are offering packages, which I'm not really intrested in.

SmallShips · 01/07/2008 22:39

im working on averages now, the weather has been ok-ish, sunny spells, breezy for the last 2 weeks down here, so is bound to be the same for next friday... but as long as it doesnt rain, i will be happy..

SmallShips · 01/07/2008 22:41

SLF - we ignored the prices on the websites, emailed them and said this is our budget what can you do... some wont change their prices or packages, some do, just email all of the ones in your area and see what happens.

teafortwo · 01/07/2008 22:47

I did the same... but I fell in love with one photographer and so sent her a sort of fan letter and explained I had no desire to get involved with her wedding deal but we would be honoured if she would do a portrait session after. She said "I do"! I was very lucky!!!

stillovefoxes · 01/07/2008 23:42

Hopefully I find one I like just as much T42!

peasoup · 02/07/2008 09:09

Good Morning! thanks teafortwo; only just putting finishing touches to the website (hence the lack of info on the price page, etc.) so haven't showed it to the world yet. Guess I have now!
Fully support the idea of phoning up and asking for individual prices for whatever amount of photos you want done for the day. Depending on how busy they are; many photographers are happy to go "Off Plan" so to speak, i.e. ignore the package prices. They can always just say no; so no harm in asking.
I would be SO happy to be a wedding planner; love all this stuff. It's pathetic, even when I take the photos I sometimes get all choked up during the ceremony or when the bride dances with her father, SOB!!!

TillyScoutsmum · 02/07/2008 10:56

Hello peasoup - come and be our resident expert Love your website - fab photos. what a brilliant job

DifferentID - you look stunning and so happy. Love the cake as well

Foxes - re:photos - we just rang a few up and told them we weren't having a big formal wedding and didn't want a package. Lots of them will do something to suit - especially as its quite short notice and if they haven't got a booking now, they aren't likely to - so may be happy to get a couple of hundred pound for doing a small wedding than nothing at all. We're just having the photographer for 3 hours and getting a CD Rom with reproduction rights. I can then do a storybook album myself on something like Snapfish.

Re: flowers - as long as a florist has 48 hours notice and you're not picking flowers that are out of season/uncommon, then I would just pop in and see what they can do

SS and BIAC - I hope you get good weather but I bet it won't matter a jot if you don't. It'll still be a fab day for you both
