it was incredible. How full and frank do you want it?

Dropdeadfred · 01/07/2008 16:03

fullest and frankest poss...leave out the wedding night tho if you like

differentID · 01/07/2008 17:08

ok. Here goes.
Wednesday- we arrive at my home town with wedding cake and discover that it slipped during transit- not badle, just enough to get me panicking. We push the icing back together and leave it at the hotel to settle.
Friday- go to hairdressers, get my head covered in rollers at 3pm. Rehearsal is at 5 pm. Everything goes ok, except MR ID get smy name wrong and looks like he's going to soil himself. He goes off to his hotel, and I get stuck at my mums for the night- did get a chance to meet some cousins I hadn't met before- they're all in their 60's and Irish- you can imagine what they're like, lol.
Get to bed at midnight, sleep for about three hours total with my head hanging over the side of the bed get out of bed at 6.30.
SOmehow, I completeley relaxed in the morning- had my hair done at 8.30 and got home at 10.15 then the others ahd their make up. midday I get my make up done and then wandering around the house in my PJ bottoms until everyone else is ready. Flowers turned up- minus a button hole, so we had to get a friend to drive to the hotel to pick it up. Had a report that DH was pacing the reception and tying the ribbon to the bridesmaids car. Got ready and was pacing outside when the car hadn't shown up by 1.40. I sent the bridesmaids to the church, My Mum's car went next and just as she left the street mine turned up. Relax
I became the first bride in the priest's memory to turn up on time and we had loads of photos outside the church and the registrar did her bit.
Priest goes to the alter and tells my dh to turn around and watch as I come up the aisle to Clarke's Trumpet Voluntary yanking my uncle back as he tries to sprint up to the front of the church. Each yank was accompanied by me hissing-"Slow down for God's sake" and giggling from my bridesmaids behind me. Made it and everything went swimmingly until we went to sign the register. Nerves got to me, and I belched rather loudly. Cue lots of sniggering and horrified looks at the now-blushing bride.
Photos go fantastically well, and we get taken down to the harbour in the oldest part of the town- where we discover the tide has come in and a kayaking schol is taking place. They were all fantastic kids- all wishing us well and very polite, laughing and joking with us as we had lots of pics taken, none of them tried to disrupt the photographer.
then we go to the hotel whre I discover my mother has been quaffing buck's fizz with gusto and we sit down for the most fabulous meal anyone's wever had. Even though we forgot we had a vegetarian guest- oops- the hotel were great and did something for him at short notice. Everyone raved about the meal and then afterwards we cut the now nearly as good as new cake- thehotel hat worked on pushing the icing back properly for us and it was lovely.
Then everyone had a chance to relax, and we opened all the cards and presents- ended up with about 7 photo frames and lots! of money and gift vouchers.
evening kicked off at 8pm and the disco went on till 1.30 although dh and I had vanished at about midnight to cheers and applause.
No- one got sick, no one had fights, and only 2 people had hangovers the next day. So far, no one has said they didn't enjoy the day and they especially loved the fact that we hadn't let groups of friends sit next to each other at the meal because it meant they could get to know some of the other guests.
We also impressed some rather formal friends of my mum's by speaking to every guest individually throughout the evening. She said that she had never known a bride and groom to be so relaxed.
Oh and we went to sleep when we went up to our room

SmallShips · 01/07/2008 17:18

Sounds like a brilliant day was had all round.

Lol at the belch, sorry, i bet you were mortified! The sort of thing im likely to do lol.

FruitynNutty · 01/07/2008 17:34

Hi there all Brides to be

Do you mind if I join? I've got AGES to go but I need as much help as possible! We're getting married next September (2009) on the 19th. The place we booked only had two days available next year so had to book early .

I'll have a read through the posts in a bit.

I'd just like to say, we went to a friend's wedding on Saturday which was fantastic. At the end of the night we all let off chinese paper hot air balloons into the night sky which was a gorgeous end to the night - especially drunk!

differentID · 01/07/2008 17:39

Oh and I nearly tripped up the steps of the altar after signing the register.

teafortwo · 01/07/2008 18:37

Congratulations differentID!!!! Sounds like you had a really fun day!

TillyScoutsmum · 01/07/2008 18:49

While you have been gone there has been lots of music and hair talk. What music did you have for the service and first dance? What did you do with your locks - smallships wants ideas!

Stilllovesfoxes is planning on having Champagne Supernova for her music but her hubby to be isn't keen he wants a few more girly tracks!!!(tease tease tease!!!)

differentID is it possible for us to see some photos?

P.S the famous blogger petite anglaise (I follow her blog, it is my guilty pleasure along with mning) married 'the boy' - what do you think of their wedding???

TSM, I was impressed by this bride's flowers...www.rebeccathephotographer.blogspot.com/
Is that your style or not really?

LoveMyGirls · 01/07/2008 20:47

Hi everyone,

Sounds like you're all getting there!

Congratulations MrsdifferentID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What's it like to actually BE married? Different/ strange/ special/ same??????

FruitynNutty - I'm getting married sept 09 as well on the 12th, we've booked the church and reception but that's all, only been engaged a month!

Latest ideas for the wedding have been.....
To hire a circus entertainer to teach us how to do circus tricks (went to a party with one the other day and i learnt to plate spin, it was loads of fun for all ages and a bit different to just a disco) Dp has said no to that idea, who thinks i should try to persuade him it's a fab idea?
Another idea is ......in our younger days we used to go out clubbing and the dj is really a mate who dj's in clubs playing funky house so I thought might be a bit different if when we change the music to funky stuff latee (about 10.30pm) I could get changed out of my wedding dress and put on a white clubbing outfit instead so i can dance properly for a couple of hours at the end of the night, is this totally bonkers?

If we don't hire the entertainer I'm considering buying some things to put on the dance floor for the kids to play with, any ideas? I'm thinking sports sets, hula hoops, spinning plates, diablo's, skittles etc

Any opinions?

teafortwo · 01/07/2008 20:57

Lovemygirls - go for it. My sis is a big Britpop girlie they are having a Britpop band and no disco!

Love the kiddie toys idea and the circus trick teachers - we all want to come to your wedding sounds fun!

differentID · 01/07/2008 20:58

Well, girls, my mother just phoned and her DP asked her today to marry him!woo- hoo!
Mum has told her to wait a year or two for the wedding, she needs to get over mine first!

differentID · 01/07/2008 20:58

Sorry, I meant my sister' dp has just asked my sister to marry him.

differentID · 01/07/2008 21:00

it's a little bit weird. I keep thinking of him as my fiance still and yet I can't help but grin like an idiot everytime I say he's my husband!

stillovefoxes · 01/07/2008 21:03

Love the circus idea and as a former clubber myself, I think the funky house idea and change of outfit is a fab idea!

Are you having flowers T42, I was thinking of having a small thing but I have absolulty no idea about flowers or flower arrangements!
And I'm not sure if it would fit in with my relaxed sort of theme, would it look to formal? What sort of flowers are you having TSM?

Where are the pics differentID? We wont give up till we see them!

Any luck with the curls SS?

teafortwo · 01/07/2008 21:22

slf - no flowers although - my best friend who is witness is a real romantic and traumatically (for her because she loves the security of relationships)/ luckily (for any single man out there because she is gorgous) single. I considered if we pass a florist buying just a small bunch to poke out my wicker basket bag and chucking it at her at the end of the wedding - just as a little wink to her special sweet romantic side! But then when I stop and think about it it seems a bit daft!

SmallShips · 01/07/2008 21:23

i went to the hairdressers and got it curled and even more frickin hair fell out!! I'll be wearing a baseball cap down the aisle at this rate! Damn these hormones.

differentID · 01/07/2008 21:23

okay, girls they're up

Can't decide on the flowers - was going to do red but then thought it might be a bit much with my red dress so may go more white. I love orchids but I know they are ££££. Will see what florist says tomorrow. Still love these but with more of the orchids and less red or I might just go all orchids like this but white not yellow or I may go all white like this

Clearly I am as indecisive on flowers as I am on everything else

Foxes - have a look at that site for flowers - maybe just a hand tied of something really pretty informal flowers like sweet peas like this

Lovemygirls - how about a giant twister - fun for kids and pissed up adults as well
