MOM £28 is such a bargain! I'm going to the wedding dress sale on the 21st sept, i want a gorgeous dress but don't want it to cost the earth but its either get one from a high street shop (but I want a big skirt and none of them have big skirts) get 2nd hand but they're dirty and don't have the same feel to them and cost half as much or even nearly as much by the time you've paid to have them altered so then it leaves me with getting a new dress but the cheaper ones on the internet worry me as I've heard bad reports about them not being made properly and not arriving in time etc then that leaves me with bridal shops where the minimum is £600.

mamadiva · 01/09/2008 08:24

Can I just hijack a second please?

I am not getting married but a close friend of mine is in April and I want to get her something really special and she wants me to help plan the wedding. What can I do that'd be really special?

teafortwo · 01/09/2008 10:08

mamadiva - Of course you are welcome!

I got married in July but still hang around because my sister is getting married in April and also everyone on this thread is so so lovely!!!

I know what you mean about wedding presents. I have this great fear of buying from the list - I would be the one who ended up buying the tuppaware pots and afraid of going off the list too - If they really wanted it wouldn't they of put it on the list?

My sister and her dh2b are quite adventurous but don't have a good atlas. I was thinking of buying them a good atlas.

One of my best friends got married just over a year ago. They are into cycling and asked for everyone to give them money so they could buy a tandom. So I did that.

Has your friend mentioned anything about a list or do her and dh2b have any hobbies you could supply tools for?

And.... erm.... lastly...

Mamadiva - now we know about you and your friend, we would love to hear about your friend's plans - venue, dresses, type of wedding - we love that kinda thing here!!!!

TillyScoutsmum · 01/09/2008 11:22

Hello mamdiva - hijack away

Is there anything you're particularly good at (like baking or arty stuff) ?. You could offer to do the cake or make the invites or write a reading for them. Or perhaps you could organise a lovely pamper day for just the two of you a few days before the wedding. Mainly, I think just be around to let her go on and on about all things weddingy without looking hideously bored.

aaaaarrrgghhhh, i typed long message and it's gone!! i hate it when that happens!!!!!

i get married this month!!!! woooohooooo, i'm so bloody excited!!!!

had to stop wedding planning for a few days as i ran out of money... but now i've been paid it's all systems go!!!

today the stuff i ordered to make place cards arrived.. so i can start on those!!

still need to sort music ( i can't bloody download from internet! i'm so dumb!!)

teafortwo · 01/09/2008 13:44

Mamadiva - I just had a thought - Have you got any ideas what to wear to your friends wedding? April is a tricky wedding month in terms of what guests should wear. Do you go for something quite summery? Quite wintery? I don't know. Very formal or because it is Spring time can you get away with something less structured?

I think you can tell - I am really getting quite stressed about what to wear to my sister's wedding. Maybe, if you'd be kind enough, we could talk about it a bit seeing as you will probably be looking for an outfit too!

stretchmarkqueen · 01/09/2008 16:20

Dp just been to the registry office to hand in notices, and he's been told that we have to have the interview beforehand TOGETHER, not seperatly like we wanted. Also we are not allowed to have our choice of music, we have to have theirs.

I don't partic like this piece, no offence if anyone else does.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

We're not into the bridezilla type things, the important thing to me is marriage, but these were 2 of the things I really wanted. Would love to have had our piece of music to listen to in the future and reminice(sp?)

Sorry for sp. am quite upset.

LoveMyGirls · 01/09/2008 17:57

Oh smq I'm not sure what to say, why didn't they tell you all this beforehand?

Are there are other ways you can make it special? What about they play that and then you get a friend with a phone that plays music to play a tune you love? or have the tune you love playing when you walk out? Why do they have to be so strict?

The marriage is important to us all BUT we still all want the little things that make it unique and special I don't think its bridzilla behaviour (getting all guests to wear co-ordinated clothes is a bridzilla thing to do) music you have chosen to make it personal is not!

TillyScoutsmum · 01/09/2008 18:03

SMQ - have they given you a reason why they won't interview you separately ?? I've never known a Regsitrar refuse to do it before... Which area is it ? Similarly, they normally allow you to chose your own music (subject to their approval). What were you going to have ?

All sounds a bit odd to me - is there any chance you can speak to them again ? Ask them for reasons - whether its time constraints or just not policy and whether there is any way around it at all

You're not being Bridezilla about it. The music thing wouldn't be the end of the world for me but the not being able to be intereviewed separately before would (if we were intending to not see each other until I walked down the aisle like most people do)

OP posts:
teafortwo · 01/09/2008 18:27

Our registrars at both offices we dealt with were perfect in every way - I think you have pulled a short straw smq!!!

I can understand you wanting the meeting beforehand seperately - as you don't want him to see your dress until your big moment! All sounds a bit strange to me. What has everyone else got arranged?

I don't understand the music thing either - we had no music - would they have forced us to have their music too. It seems silly! Maybe try talking to a different member of staff? Or choosing a different venue???

saralou · 01/09/2008 18:27

SMQ, can you not do the interview beforehand? we've done our interview already.. we do need to see the reg on the day before but we can do it seperately.. that seems odd to me aswell! especially the music! you can't have religious music, but they can't tell you what you have to have... it's your day! odd!!

can you speak to a reg, or email them?

hughjarssss · 01/09/2008 22:32

We cant have the music of our choice either which we really upset me for the same reasons as you LMG.

However we have had the choice of being interviewed or seperate.

You do really need to speak to them again LMG and tell them how upset you are by this
