TFT - I love the idea of the short-ish dress with some lovely shoes - and how fabulous does PA look in that amazing frock?!
Have just been drooling at the Candy Anthony website too... Looks wonderful! I am now going to do as suggested and search back on this thread for more inspiration!
Looked at a venue today. it was lovely but I think a bit out of our price range & perhaps not quite what we're after. DP looked at a place on Friday & really liked it so I will pop over there again next weekend to give it the once over. Am I supposed to experience the WOW factor when looking at venues or am I supposed to be a lot more grown-up and level headed than that?!

teafortwo · 30/08/2008 22:51

TSM - When dh and I had our dd out of wedlock I was really worried about what other people would think. I told my then dp of my concerns and he said something to me that changed my perception of life forever...

"At the end of the day we are all just living our lives. Everyone has to live their life."

I like that mentality - no right or wrong just growth, development and experience wherever the living takes us.

I suppose that goes for anything however deep for example love, relationships, faith or superficial for example what dress should LMGs and FN wear to get married in (nice, smooth link - hey!)!!!

TillyScoutsmum · 30/08/2008 23:02

T42 - you're a very wise lady (and your dh is a wise man), A match made in heaven, obviously

Nora - not sure about the Wow factor for venues. Depends how much money you have I suppose . Our decision was mainly practical - can they do the sort of thing we're after (which meant there needed to be some flexibility away from the "packages" most venues offer) and can they do it within our budget. I'm also a real "people person" (sounds incredibly w*nky) but there were a couple of venues we looked at which were nice enough, but I just didn't take to the the wedding co-ordinator/events manager who I would be dealing with. Sounds daft, but it made a big impression on me. Ditto with most of the suppliers - if I don't like the people I'm dealing with, I tend to stay away.

God, just re-read that and it makes me sound really difficult to deal with... I'm not, I promise. I'm a nice person...really

I thought I would use the thread about who would you like to meet from Mumsnet to give a little plug to my two most special and favourite threads! !!!

flamingnora · 31/08/2008 09:48

TSM - NOT wanky at all! My brother just got married & the venue was lovely & reasonably priced but the manager was beyond rude - just a total nightmare to deal with. Having watched him go through his arrangements I am also very keen to get some people who are nice to deal with!

LoveMyGirls · 31/08/2008 13:03

Can't stop have just dropped df and dd's are pil while I'm food shopping and cleaning (ahem ) so ......... I'm having a panic, bf is coming soon to help me but in the meantime I wondered what you lovely ladies think I should do, I'm torn on one hand I really want a wedding day to remember, I don't want to regret not making it special enough ( i know a few of you have had quiet weddings and enjoyed them but I think I'd feel disapointed if I didn't have a fuss and not because I like being the centre of attention but because we've both got huge famillies and I want them to share our day plus I'm only going to have the chance to wear a gorgeous big dress once, if I don't i think I will regret it, on the other hand we are broke and theres no point bank rupting ourselves for the sake of one day so the whole budget needs to be as little as possible with us still having the day we'd like.

I feel a bit like I'm being a spoilt brat (we're having church wedding, pil are paying for that, having the reception in a social club because we're paying for that, my dad is paying for my dress but I don't want to take the mick so how much is reasonable to spend?

there are quite a few dresses here for under £200 I think I'd be happy to wear but I'm not sure if the site is reputable and also would I regret not having a white dress?

I was originally going for more traditional style which is very me? [http://www.alfredangelounitedkingdom.com/Collections/ProductDisplay.aspx?productID=6ce28ccc-04df-47 e2-a314-bccf57d3cedf&categoryID=0e1dbafc-84df-4fa0-9452-3dd8af69fdfd&pg=1 but is this too OTT for a social club type wedding?]]

I also originally said I'd have a marks and spencer cake which my mum kindly offered to pay for but now I've seen a gorgeous cake which is blue with white iced words on it and I really want something like that. Obviously I'd pay the difference if I had a more expensive cake but I'm worried about things getting out of hand now.

Help?

LoveMyGirls · 31/08/2008 13:04

this I mean oops

hughjarssss · 31/08/2008 15:08

Beautiful dress LMG.

I'm getting married in a registy office and then back to a chalet .. a bloody chalet .. and I'm wearing a white dress.

So I think toour dress will be perfect for a social club type wedding

hughjarssss · 31/08/2008 15:08

*your

stretchmarkqueen · 31/08/2008 15:55

Hi Ladies!!

Ooops, hope yor day went brilliantly!

Hughjarsss, lol at the bloody chalet!! When's your wedding?

Had my hair trial!! I am having it up, with barrel curls. Looks soooooo glamorous! It's the first time I've actually felt like i'm getting married, something other than writing out cheques and organizing, iyswim?

Have had all my replies back now!! No backing out....

hughjarssss · 31/08/2008 17:57

13 days to go Stretchmarkqueen!

stretchmarkqueen · 31/08/2008 18:10

13 DAYS!!!! Are you stressed?

hughjarssss · 31/08/2008 18:13

I've got that nervous exicitement feeling in my stomach when I think about it, like butterflies.

I'm not stressed as our wedding is kinda a go with the flow sort of thing. I haven't organised a lot so not a lot can go wrong!

But I am verey exicited .. like a kid waiting for christmas

TillyScoutsmum · 31/08/2008 20:09

Hugh - how exciting 13 days to go eh ? (btw, the penny has just dropped ). Are you happy with the dress ? Is everything sorted now ?

LMG - I really don't know what to suggest. Can you just ask your dad how much he is thinking of spending ?? Personally, I wouldn't go into debt for a wedding and things can spiral out of control but at the same time, you need to have the sort of day you won't regret. Imho, I would rather get married in a cheaper dress and have everyone I wanted there (and give them a blooming cheese sandwich if need be), than spend loads of money on a really fancy meal etc. and have to cut down on numbers. Its a tough one

T42 - good thread promotion We can meet for coffee, cakes and wedding talk anytime you like but if its all the same to you, I'd much prefer the venue to be Paris as opposed to Birmingham . Cafe and gateaux then (I have no acute accent btw)

hughjarssss · 31/08/2008 20:48

Dress is fantastic Tilly - Thanks to you. It's gorgoeus - I never pictured myself wearing something like that and it is very flattering.

Everything is as sorted as it can be. We have ordered rings (only did that lasat sunday ). They will be ready to be picked up on Wednesdy.

I'll order flowers when we get there. I only want a bouquet of sweetpeas and a little wrist corsage for dd so hopefully it shouldn't be a problem.

dp is booked in for a suit fitting the day after we arrive and the hire place said that is enough time.

Photographer booked.

Brought the Tatlinger (sp) champagne on Saturday.

dd has a beautiful dress I got in the sales - very chuffed with my bargin!

Will sort food out once we are there, hoping for a really nice bakery/deli close by.

Fingers crossed my hoop thingy arrives in time.

Cant think of anything else

(BTW, all that was nothing to do with me Tilly.)

LoveMyGirls · 31/08/2008 21:01

TSM - my dad said spend what you need to (which is nice but doesn't really give me a good idea of how much) I'm trying to spend as little as possible all round but want to have a nice day.

We've got 120 people coming, getting married late in the day, one buffet, cake as pudding, dad doing photo's, aunt doing flowers, another booking honeymoon, bf paying for a car to reception, df's bro driving us to church, bridal party paying for all their own outfits, getting married in september so honeymoon etc is cheaper, friend is dj-ing and another friend will be singng.

We're already in debt, we hope to sort out the credit card and my overdraught in the next few months and then work on saving for the wedding (the rest of the debt is bank loan which comes out monthly and will be paid over 7yrs so no point worrying over that) My mum, dad and pil are all helping pay for things so will be cheaper than it would have been for us to have a lovely day, I know we're really lucky but this is why I'm worrying about going ott, I want a nice day but don't want everyone around us to be skint because of our day. We've been together nearly 7 years so really want to be married now for legal reasons as well as the fact we're still head over heels in love!

I've decided to get 2 plain sponge cakes with white icing and blue writing and hopefully a cake topper with 4 of us on the top (anyone know where we can get one??)

TillyScoutsmum · 31/08/2008 21:02

Ah good - glad its all coming together. Have been wondering about the dress (would have felt awful if it wasn't any good when it arrived)

BTW - if anyone needs a flowergirl dress that would fit, I would say an average 15-18 month old, then I have an unworn one I'm getting rid of. I finally decided it would be too small for dd (she'll be 18 months but is very tall/big for her age). I've managed to order the next size up but can't be bothered to send the original one back to the US. I'll ebay it at some point but if its any use to anyone here, then I'd be happy to take about £30 for it

OP posts:
MerlinsBeard · 31/08/2008 21:22

LMG your wedding sounds so much like mine!

I got my dress from debenhams for the enormous price of .....£33!!!!!!(well i got it fro £28 as they reduced it for grubbiness) they have a HUGE sale on at the moment as its the end of their season for wedding attire. we are also asking friends to do things instead of buying us gifts.

TillyScoutsmum · 31/08/2008 21:44

Sorry LMG - x posts

Is it worth ordering a cheaper dress (like the ones you linked) and just seeing how it feels on ? If its nowhere near as good as the ones you've been trying, then maybe go back to plan A ? Or have a look at ebay ?

OP posts:
TillyScoutsmum · 31/08/2008 21:45

BTW - I don't think the dresses you like are too OTT for a social club wedding at all... makes no odds where you're getting married - you deserve to have the dress you want and feel like a bride, if that's what is important to you

OP posts:
hughjarssss · 31/08/2008 21:47

MOM - thats where I got dd's bridesmaid dress
Fab bargin!

TillyScoutsmum · 31/08/2008 21:51

LMG - like this ?? It can be done with blue. I know other people who have used this seller and were very happy

or this one ?
