Just wondered how everyone's getting on, having actually produced?

I'm absolutely knackered, and have very nasty tear which is giving me grief (I ripped into the muscle a bit) but am in much MUCH better shape than with dd2 - and dd1 is thoroughly enthusiastic. Mind you, dd2 is still asleep most of the time. I'm aware that the next few weeks and months are going to be, ahem, not the easiest, which is why I thought it might be worth keeping in touch...?

Hey Motherinferior - whinge all you want - we know how tough it is.

Last night was a 2am wake up so still lots of work to do.

Dahlia · 04/08/2003 09:46

Motherinferior - big hugs to you xx

motherinferior · 04/08/2003 19:45

Thanks so much everyone.

Any other babes doing a double whammy with hot weather and six week feedathons, just out of interest? DD2 has been on the boob for a large chunk of this afternoon, slurping happily away.

DD1 has, rather guilt-inducingly, learnt the new phrase 'I'm a bit busy at the moment'

Just a quick question. Do I call my new daughter DD1 or DD3? I have DS1 & DS2 is she DD3 or DD1 or just DD? I will get the hang of this soon I promise

I am way behind you lot with the sleep. I am lucky if i get an hour! see how far you have come in just a few weeks. just think how good things will be in a few more weeks! I am day-dreaming of sleep.

princesspeahead · 04/08/2003 22:23

DD1! If you call her DD3 we'll think you've got 5 children and get all confused.....

KMS · 04/08/2003 22:29

Thanx! Just re- read post and i didn't mean to sound so unsympathetic. Just trying to look on the bright side.

Sleep - its great, just keep chanting "Only 3 months, only 3 months"

I feel we are close to that all night sleep - maybe next week.....

kaz33 · 04/08/2003 22:33

Hey KMS - I was just thinking glad its her not me, your post was not unsympathetic at all.

motherinferior · 05/08/2003 10:06

Only three months! Yeah!!!! Yep, I keep reminding myself DD1 was NIGHTMARE till 3 months and then slumbered 12 hours at a time!

Wow, it's hot...

OP posts:
happyspider · 05/08/2003 13:02

ds is sleeping 6 to 7 hours at night at 8 weeks!!!
I feel so lucky and haven't been posting as I did not want to sound unsympathetic towards the others (`cause I am sympathetic...)Must be the bottle of formula he gets at night?

I have so much time on my hand that I can start worrying about more trivial things, like getting back to the woman I was before as at the moment I look like my mother.
It is so depressing to be this fat (and not pg!) in this hot weather.
At the gym I feel like walking around with a sign saying "JUST HAD A BABY" over my head

motherinferior · 05/08/2003 16:12

If I looked like my mother I would be a slender gorgeous Indian woman who put on weight some years ago - so now weighs a whole SEVEN AND A HALF STONE. Instead I got my dad's fair skin and red hair, and my very own spare tyres!

DD2 having nap after crappy night. I do start wondering what I'm doing 'wrong' at night some times...

OP posts:
Dahlia · 05/08/2003 16:28

Happyspider - I know what you mean about a sign over your head - I go swimming and its a very long walk from the changing room entrance to the pool steps - I have to breathe in so hard my eyes start to pop out. Not that breathing in does much good for the rolls of fat across my back. Its ok if I have dd2 in her carseat with me (she loves sitting at the side and gazes around enthralled before zonking out big style) but if I am on my own I am convinced that everyone is gaping at me and thinking, whoa there girly! Ease off on all those snickers bars....
Motherinferior, sorry you had a crappy night.

motherinferior · 05/08/2003 16:33

Thank you my love. Mind you, I suppose i should keep quiet about the fact I have lost all my pregnancy weight (didn't put on much) and the antenatal pilates seems to have had good effects too (slinks away...)

mears · 05/08/2003 16:35

Happyspider - my first baby slept 12 hours at night at 9 weeks old on breast milk only

happyspider · 05/08/2003 21:45

ops.. didn't mean to start a competition and didn't mean to sound arrogant or a superior mother
(just realized pun, sorry motherinferior) I was just reporting my progresses with dear ds and was amazed by the fact he's sleeping for so long!

oh, and Motherinferior, If I could have chosen between broken sleep and my figure back without sweating, I know what I would have chosen... PRONTO!

you are a lucky woman!

kaz33 · 06/08/2003 09:53

Now I feel hard done by - still have all pregnancy weight and probably put some on and DS2 now decided that it is a good idea to wake at 2.30/2am - he was doing 4am/5.30am a couple of weeks ago !!! Aaargh - don't think it is to much sleep during the day, probably just going through a growth spurt - yesterday he drank 5 7oz bottles.

On a happier note we had DS1's second birthday party yesterday - it was a kind of magical day.

By the way Happyspider boasting is allowed, no need not to post.

Saskia909 · 06/08/2003 10:32

Hello everyone - I am still trying to become a dedicated mumsnetter but the latest crisis is I put my back out so can't sit at computer for v long (luckily am fast typist). DS2 is now 8 weeks (DS1 10 years - now that's an easy gap!) and has settled from a nightmare start. B/feeding finally comfortably established and, Wobblymum et all, I have been sort of mixed feeding since week 1! Basically he would get a 4 oz bottle once a day whenever we were most desperate! It was like our magic fix - only to be used when we just couldn't take any more. He is now 12.5 lbs but I haven't needed to give him a bottle for nearly a week so I think I might be there. Not so good on the post preggars weight tho... Talk about rolls of fat on my back Dahlia! Too much info? And putting the wretched back out has stopped my gym attendance for now... Will try to post more often now and lovely to read all your stories - I feel so much more normal...?

motherinferior · 06/08/2003 11:22

Oh, I'm so sorry I sound grouchy and ungiving. I'm just a bit hopeless on not enough sleep, and dd2 has now got our family cold, so that adds a special delight to the nights. I really do apologise for sounding so hopeless; please do believe that lots of the time it's fine and sometimes it's fab, honestly...

happyspider · 06/08/2003 11:58

kaz33, I have had the same last night with ds, he woke up at 1:30, 3:30 and 5:00.
I think it's the hot weather, or at least I hope, otherwise we are back to square one and we were doing so well! Also, he had his first jab yesterday and he looked a bit unsettled, he didn't like it at all, poor little thing, he did seem to be in a lot of pain.
He's asleep now and seems fine.
Dahlia, I have gone back to my old gym, where people knew me when I was very fit, and some of the members do double takes when they see me... how embarrassing! but I have started doing something, so I feel better about myself.

Motherinferior, must be hard to be on so little sleep when you also have another child to look after, but I am sure that the end is not far from you... the 12 weeks mark is getting closer and closer

happyspider · 06/08/2003 12:00

Kaz33
happy birthday to your son!!

kaz33 · 06/08/2003 19:01

THanks Happyspider.

Maybe next week when this heat subsides I will get my backside down the gym. You're inspiring me to tackle my weight - when I became pregnant with DS2 I was starting to lose the weight from DS1, but hadn't returned to my pre preggers weight. I still have the suits in the wardrobe should I chuck them or use them as something to aim for ??

motherinferior · 07/08/2003 16:02

I should probably stress that weight has gone down, but I was never exactly Missis Slender Waif - and ohhhh how I want some proper exercise WITHOUT children, and the energy to do it!

DD1 managed to take her nappy off in the library (I seem to be living in the library!) today. Luckily I got another on her before anything happened (although she dashed away while I was b/fing) but I was dreading the usual effect the place has on her bowels, All terribly animal, parenting, isn't it?

colette · 07/08/2003 18:05

I'm really enjoying reading how everyone is getting on, but I never seem to have any time to post. So I feel chuffed to be able to today. Ds is 5 weeks old and is a very windy chap, has anyone found anything that actually works? I've tried homeopathic granules, infracol ,shoving a dummy in, loud music, rocking, watching what I eat as I am b/f and I'm not sure what works. Some days he is worse than others , and I haven't been able to work out why.
It doesn't help that Dd competes for my attention when he's crying by talking really loudly or being really naughty. Oh the joys and still looking like a fat walrus doesn't help.
Sorry to but in but any suggestions?

kaz33 · 07/08/2003 21:46

Hi Colette - my 10 week old has been windy from the day he was born.

Infacol has worked a bit for us, it certainly gives him the most enormous burps. Other than that I find taking him for walks in a sling and white noise ( dryer ) calms him down and helps him to sleep.

With us he was windy when he was breastfed, mixed fed and now bottle fed. For the first ten days of his life he didn't do a poo then graduated to every 4 or 5 days. He is now pretty regular on one a day and does seem to have settled down a little.

Also dealing with the same problems with the older child - I found it peaked about 6 weeks, DS1 now seems a little happier with DS2, maybe because he isn't so noisy.
