New thread. Last one too long!

Hi All

Sorry -- been away and out of the loop for a while as all sorts of dramas take place.

J&G - a big hug from me and I hope you're alright. I'd face a tough choice if I found myself in your position and you have to do what you want (or is best) in the circumstances. I'm another one who thinks that 3 would be lovely but too much bloody work (especially on top of my job, that's if I still had a job!) and I'm probably a nicer mummy of two than 3.

Good to hear from you, Kaybee.

More later - I must go and entertain DD while DS naps...

Chaotica · 05/02/2010 21:33

Evening, Ladies

Grrr. DD's first ever playdate was canceled as her only friend was ill. Poor DD . And then I couldn't do anything exciting to ease the pain because I hurt my back... Not my day (or DD's).

On the upside - I managed to cure DS of the strange hallucinations he had in the local cafe when he was ill (he was suddenly scared of a 'funny thing' and refused to eat there, which normally he loves ). Toddlers, eh?

Hope you're all OK and a hug for you J&G.

Jewelsandgems · 07/02/2010 10:09

Hi everyone

Thanks for all your kind words. I should be in time for the pill method which is a relief but I am still finding it difficult to come to terms with it. I know it is the right decision but for fleeting moments I start to entertain the idea and then I look at my two girls and know it would not be fair on them. Already I feel like I don't give either of them enough attention - having a baby would really compromise my relationship with them - and they are both so small. I do think, if they were 5+ (and my age was -5 what it is now) then I would be raring to go. My DH is also 40 and he has a really good point about not wanting to be an OAP when the child reaches 20.

Anyway, sorry your playdate was cancelled chaotica - my DD had hers cancelled the week before last because the girl was ill. But then she was suddenly back at nursery the next day and I think Freya took it to heart

Anyway, off to do some shopping today and then fill in enrolement forms for Freya pre-school (and Izzy's prepreschool - P.S do any of you know if the short version of the birth certificate is acceptable?)

Hi All

Hope you're all OK.

J&G - I think if things were slightly different, I'd probably want 8 DCs. But I think DP might object if I sprung that one on him now (not to mention my employers...).

DD was sick at the weekend so I've spent too much time in the company of the washing machine. But DS, who is not sick now (fingers crossed) is lovely again - a relief after 2 weeks of killer tantrums and hours of screaming.

Hope you're doing well, GYA.

tracyface · 09/02/2010 21:21

Hi everyone,

Chaotica It must be catching, We have been having the killer tantrums here but I found out she has ear infection so I guess that explains things. She was really awful over the weekend and spent most of her waking hours on the naughty step for pushing and biting and generally being 'Angelica'.

I was putting it down to her final back teeth coming through poor thing, but seems she was quite poorly but only at night when she had a temperature and was fine in the day time enough to even go to nursery.

Isaac has also been a delight bless him and such a good boy - I have been doing the positive praise thing in the hope that she will pick up on it and i think its working!

Off for tea and biccies and and early night to catch up on disturbed sleep we have been having .

Hope you all have a good week

Chaotica · 10/02/2010 00:30

It was an ear infection here too with DS, Tracyface. I guess they're some of the worst painwise (poor DS couldn't move one side of his face ). It's so nice to have him better (although the ABs didn't agree with him). Hope Melissa is better soon. (I really thought DS was playing up because of his age or his teeth (Bad mummy!)

Jewelsandgems · 10/02/2010 22:03

Hi chaotica and tracy hope your little ones are responding well to the ABs - I used to have loads of ear infection as a little girl and I remember how awful they were. Plus my doctor stopped me from swimming lessons because of it and even now I am not a great fan of water!!

I have booked the summer holiday today - Thailand! Was very cheap thanks to helpful virgin holidays girl and even more helpful £200 off voucher from tesco clubcard!

I have a playdate tomorrow at a soft play area that I have never been to before (or drove to) so I am kind of looking forward to that, whilst dreading it at same time. And the girls always pick up some bug when they have been to soft play (mind you, they pick up everything anyway from bloody nursry so no matter I guess)

Speak soon,
J&G

Chaotica · 11/02/2010 22:25

Evening All

J&G - Thailand? I am . Although I don't the flight with two children. We just about managed on the way to Turkey, but a lot further might be a bit tough. (We've talked about taking the DCs to western Canada, but so far not been brave or rich enough... (So it's somewhere local for us, unless we can cut a deal or find a friend with a house somewhere interesting.)

DS is fine now [phew] and at the moment both DCs are well. Hopefully DD is finally going on the postponed playdate tomorrow (I sincerely hope that she doesn't stay silent and hide behind the sofa...)

Hope you had fun at softplay, J&G. (I seem to end up at outdoor playgrounds as DD doesn't like softplay much. I just freeze at this time of year...)

Jewelsandgems · 13/02/2010 19:48

Well chaotica on our last 3 UK holidays we have spent so much money and felt a bit cheated! So this year the overall holiday is more but we hope with the guarenteed sunshine and warm sea what we won't be forced into paying for expensive days out in places with a roof.....but I can promise you that next year we will back to local again. We can't sustain this kind of holiday every year - unfortunatly!

However, I am dreading the flight. DH is bloody scared of flying so he'll be no help at all.

How was the playdate chaotica? Ours at soft play was exhausting! And then the rush to get to nursery. Still Freya had a brilliant time; Izzy happy to just sit by me and venture off to the slides only occiasionally.

Now, next week half term....what shall we do?

Hope you are all ok, I feel like there are only a few of us left these days....

Kaybeeand2boys · 14/02/2010 08:09

Hi everyone, sorry to hear about all the ear infections. I took ds2 to the doctor in the week as I thought he might have one but she checked him over and decided that although one ear looked a little sore it didnt warrant AB's. So just unexplained tiredness/refusal to sleep and stroppiness for us!

Also of your holiday J&G but can totally understand why you want somewhere with guaranteed nice weather etc for a change, I feel the same..... We might be coming back to the UK for a few weeks in Sept for a holiday! DH's family keen for us to go back over so they hopefully paying half! Will be nice actually, would love to catch up with friends and all ds1's antenatal group again, I really miss them all.

Chaotica · 16/02/2010 12:29

Hi All

How's half term?

I can completely understand the draw of holidays where you're bound to get some sun (or at least no rain). Haven't thought of where we might be going this year... Hmmmm. Kaybee and J&G are braver than me with the long-haul plans though.

All better from the ear infections only to get colds . Was it the thread title that did it? We did get to go swimming in the meantime though and the DCs are improving all the time (with armbands still, but at least they're not scared of going underwater now).

The playdate was great, J&G. Although DS had his first experience of girls not wanting to hold hands with him (because he's a boy ). I guess it's downhill from here...

girlsyearapart · 16/02/2010 12:40

half term is boooooooooooooooring

No playgroups and the rest of available activties are over run with older children.

grr..

OP posts:
Chaotica · 16/02/2010 17:04

GYA - I agree about activities being overrun by older children (although I should keep quiet as that will be me and the DCs in a year or two). DD really isn't keen on playing in crowded spaces, and it seems kind of pointless if she doesn't enjoy herself. But at least our local surestart playgroup stays open (for which I dearly love them ) albeit with a slightly higher age limit. I'll be taking the posse out for a very isolated walk (weather permitting) on the days that there's no playgroup on.

girlsyearapart · 16/02/2010 20:05

our surestart is open too but doing an organised activity thing that I got the impression that they had to sign up for every day so didn't sign up..

stayed in all day today as it poured with rain but at least have activities planned for all the other days this week.

OP posts:
Chaotica · 17/02/2010 17:27

I agree that signing up for something all week is too much (especially with tiny toddlers). It seems odd that any centre would go for that idea.

It sleeted like crazy today so we were stuck in the house (aaaargh), although I have only lost the plot a couple of times. I'd much rather have gone out for a walk, but it was too goddamn cold and wet (and DS has a cold again, so even though he wanted to go it seemed rather cruel).

girlsyearapart · 17/02/2010 20:32

I'm thinking I probably got the wrong end of the stick with the every day thing..?

Went to a playgroup place today which was under 5s only so all good for the girls and going swimming tomorrow.

Weather soo much nicer today- dog is happy again

OP posts:
Chaotica · 18/02/2010 17:09

Hi All

Playgroup saved my sanity again today (even though we had to walk home in freezing rain, which has now turned to snow [needlessly excited emoticon]). At least they got to run off some steam in the softplay area too (then DS had a major meltdown as he didn't want to leave ).

PS I wish I could see this thread clearly, but I was given glasses for my blurry (migraine?) vision and everything became more blurry...

tracyface · 18/02/2010 22:20

Hi all - sorry was missing in action for a little while,

We have been making good use of our sure start centres this week too !

Was very busy getting ready for my ofsted inspection(for childminding) but now I can breathe a sigh of relief as I had it this morning and it was fine. Im quite chuffed that I didnt have any actions to carry out so now just have to wait for my checks to clear and im there.

Its also been quite theraputic as I sorted all the toys and chucked broken & missing bits out which I have been planning to do for ages, so for now everything is in boxes and in its rightful place. The kids have also played with things they havent seen for ages so its been a good excercise rotating the toy shop stock.

Its both their birthdays next wed and friday of next week so I guess another manic week ahead of me but Im thinking of having a joint princess & pirates party for them on the Saturday to keep it all together.

I have a feeling that this will be the last year I get to do a joint party as Melissa will want to do her own thing next year when she is four.

She is starting Ballet on her birthday and is so excited so we have bought her some ballet shoes and a little pink tu tu . I cant wait to see her face when she opens it. I think im more excited for her to be honest, but then I guess thats how you get when you have four boys and a girl!

girlsyearapart · 19/02/2010 07:49

that's good news tracy I've had ofsted at school before and it's so scary isn't it?

dd1 wants to start ballet so will be signing her up from when she turns 3 in september.Think she is only after the outfit but nevermind!

We will carry on with joint parties for as long as we can manage them- all gets so expensive otherwise. When they start school we'll have to do two I think. But then mine are both girls so easier to do joint parties.

Chaotica · 19/02/2010 12:52

Hi All

Well done with Ofsted, Tracy. I know my own CM has a terrible time each time they come round even though she does really well. (I do suspect they've got a bit nicer though - they used to have such a bad rep.)

Been out playing in the snow today and finally got to make a snowman. Not that he'll last long as I there's a lot of thawing going on.

DS has worked out how to unlock my CM's front door, and how to switch beebies on by himself... I expect him to be posting on here in the near future

Have fun with the birthdays as well, Tracyface. We've never had more than a family party for either (and it will be difficult when DD turns 4 as she still only has one friend). I presume other kids get invited to parties at nursery, but I don't know about it and DD has never been invited (but fortunately she's never noticed so far). DS is far more likely to want to invite his friends, so we'll probably do something when he turns 3.

Chaotica · 22/02/2010 12:45

Meant to add that you'll know if DS starts posting because he'll be wittier and cleverer than me

(I suspect his spelling will suck though - he is only 2)

Chaotica · 24/02/2010 18:11

Anyone there?

Kaybeeand2boys · 25/02/2010 09:21

Hi Chaoticia! Where has everyone gone???

Was tempted yet again to list the boys on an auction website this week, I just totally HAD ENOUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They are driving me mad with their refusal to go to bed/sleep and waking in the night and waking up at 6am. How much longer can it go on?

My worst days are always wednesdays as I have them both all day... DS1 had a regression with his toilet training and did no.2's in his pants twice yesterday and it was doing my head in! Why!

We are off for a weekend away, well not far, just an hour north of where we live, but going with friends to stay at their family beach house and their 2 girls and our boys can play (nicely I hope).

HOpe everyone ok.

Chaotica · 25/02/2010 15:29

HI Kaybee (and anyone else) At least NZ is still there...

Kaybee - you sound like you're having a hell of a time with your boys. I hope they have some fun at the beach and you get some time to relax. I've just sent both of my two for a nap (which I justify by their late bedtimes and the fact they still go to sleep if I do), so at last I have some peace and quiet.

DS is intermittantly a pain to deal with, but he's beginning to use the potty so I might be on track to train him properly once the weather gets a bit warmer. But when I think about it, it seems like such hassle to start carrying 5 changes of clothes everywhere I go.

Jewelsandgems · 27/02/2010 20:37

Hi girls.

I had my termination yesterday. I am very and and have moments of

On the whole I know I made the right decision for the family blah blah blah. But was it right for me? Well, I am used to putting everyone else first so I guess I should not be surprised to be doing that now.

I do not think I will get over it as fast as I first thought. It's just so wierd

Anyway, kaybee yes that does sound like seriously hard work with your boys - I am just in thr throws of PTing Izzy and she has good days and bad days. I am hoping to get her done nad dusted for the holiday in may but I am not sure I will be successful at that.

Wish the snow would go!!

Bought some nice cleavage enhancing vest tops fro M&S outlet today (£5!) and they are great! Long body, secret support that actually works and gives cleavage and bloody cheap! Got lovely waffle robe for £9 too.

Freya has another cold and Izzy has a little lump on the back of her neck (at side) that has not gone - think we found it a few weeks ago) so am going to book her in at doctors. I am stressing it is something serious....
