GYA - sorry to here about your preggy worry. bleeding must have been horrid to deal with [hugs]

hope everyone's having a lovely Xmas day. i'm on here supping a small glass of champers, so i'm having a really lovely xmas day. both DCs went to bed at around 7pm (albeit not entirely easily, but it's done now, so who cares!?) i'd forgotten the whole point/enjoyment of xmas until today. i think next year's will be a big ginormous one

Merry Christmas everyone...

Or as my DS would say: MAY-MEE KWIP-KWIPS!

Chaotica · 26/12/2009 13:41

Merry christmas, all Hope you're all having fun.

Hope you had a good one. We haven't finished yet as I have flu (off back to bed in a minute), so that's all of us who are sick. [bad timing emoticon] So we delayed christmas dinner in favour of giving the DCs presents and jelly and ice cream... We might go a bit more traditional today, but we'll have to see.

J&G

P.S happy new year in advance

Chaotica · 26/12/2009 21:54

Are you really off to lodnod J&G - sounds like a magical fairy city. Have a great new year there

Chaotica · 28/12/2009 23:05

SO J&G is off to London... Do any of the rest of you have New Year plans?

tracyface · 29/12/2009 16:51

Hi Just a quickie as should be doing dinner, Im so sick of food so really cant be bothered. Had a lovely christmas but Isaac spent most of it crying as he found it all a bit stressful and had far too many presents most of which made him cry!

Not only does he have Santaphobia but also presentphobia strange boy!

Melissa on the other hand keeps asking for more presents even tho she has opened everything. Greedy girl.

We dont have any New Year plans its a bit impossible when you have kids isnt it?

I exspect we will be in bed by 10 - Have a great one everyone

girlsyearapart · 29/12/2009 19:53

Hi all.

dd1 got a big bed for xmas and I am considering burning it in the back garden. She has turned into a nightmare sleeper from hell.

cot still set up but she really wants to lay in the bed. Still screaming blue murder almost an hour after being put to bed- and has gone from cot-bed about 4 times. DH cheerily left for work and I am ready to kill someone...

Chaotica · 30/12/2009 19:12

Hi All

I haven't braved the drive to ikea to get DS his big bed yet. You're putting me off by the minute, GYA. Is there any other reason your DD1 might be causing trouble at night? (DS had a dream about the house being on fire the other night... A lot can make them unsettled at that age.)

More later - toddlers knocking at the door

girlsyearapart · 31/12/2009 16:41

and it is an ikea one too!

She was better last night went to bed with minimal fuss and slept till 7am with only one little cry at 930pm. I think it is all the xmas exitement too though.

We will see!

happy new year all

Oh dear and there is me bidding on a lovely fire engine bed for Isaac!

He seems keen for a bed as he keeps trying to get into baby annabel's little wooden bed and its far to small for him and he gets really cross,

I got all carried away thinking I could sort out and decorate their rooms for their Birthdays and the end of February. But maybe will be causing unnescesary disturbed sleep problems for us if I do so. Figured he has to go into a bed eventually

We too have had major sleep probs past few nights.

Melissa keeps saying she is cold and needing more clothes on, her pj's tucked into her socks, needing the loo, a drink of water etc all the usual distractions to keep getting up for!

Isaac was up last night for over an hour (I think teething) till calpol kicked in although we lost half a bottle trying to get a spoonful in to him. We ended up sleeping in a sticky duvet last night - You would think between us we could manage to hold him down and medicate him! What a great New Years Eve!

Happy New Year everyone too !

Chaotica · 01/01/2010 16:49

Happy new year everyone

If it makes you feel better, Tracyface - we had no problems putting DD in a bed. And the only thing holding DS up is that fact that I'm just too lazy to get one.

girlsyearapart · 02/01/2010 07:58

Well the bedtimes seem to have got easier but not the nights..

Last two nights dd1 woke around 330am. No amount of anything would get her to shut up and go to sleep. On NYE because DH was still at work I ended up bringing her in with me where she wriggled until finally falling asleep at 530. Dd2 awake at 6 though..

Last night even worse awake att 320 and has not gone back to sleep yet! Also woke up dd2 at 430 who has only had ten mins sleep since then.

Now both up and teary/hyper and I am cross.

Just don't get it she was sleeping 7-7 and a nap of 1-2 hours after lunch until just before xmas. Surely she doesn't suddenly only need half that amount of sleep??

Realise most of my posts are about sleep.

Hope everyone had good NYE I was in bed at 930!

Chaotica · 02/01/2010 16:04

HI All

GYA - Are you sure that DD1 isn't suffering with her ears or her teeth. Long-suffered sleep problems with my two have frequently been solved that way (after the of realising that a child is sick enough to be kept awake by the pain and needs a doctor). I might be utterly wrong there though.

I don't know if I qualify for this thread this weekend as I only have one preschooler (DS) although he's definitely the work of two. We went swimming though, to make up for DD getting to go away with Daddy, and he's just about coping. (Just had a meltdown though because I wouldn't let him go in the garden in a sleet storm ) Tomorrow, he has told me, we're going to the swimming baths, the playground, the slide, for a walk in the woods, to the pet store, and to the supermarket, and a cafe too I might be a bit busy then.

girlsyearapart · 03/01/2010 10:06

Well last night definitely the best so far she slept all night. Has been threatened with bed returning to Father Christmas though!

Chaotica you must remain on this thread now however old your dcs get.

OP posts:
tracyface · 03/01/2010 15:18

Ok, im still going ahead with the changing to a bed idea, you havent managed to completley put me off yet.

However I do know that Isaac cant get out of his room as he cant reach the handle so hoping that will encourage him to stay in bed once he has been put there. He will probably just play trains all night.

I cant believe melissa is going back to nursery in the morning and the boys are not back till wed & thur!

Back to those rushing around, being late mornings I just cant wait

We have been really well over christmas but now im feeling ill again with a sore throat and upset tummy. Might be a blessing in disguise after the amount of quality street I have eaten.

Poor Isaac has one final tooth on its way thats playing havoc with his bottom and dribbly chin..

Chaoatica - hope you are all well now?

Chaotica · 03/01/2010 16:17

Afternoon, All

Sorry to hear you're ill again, Tracyface. We all seem to have recovered at last, although DS is crying in his cot instead of napping (I've been in 3 times, so I'm leaving it a little while). It might be that we went out to a cafe (after the supermarket) and he ate the most enormous chocolate muffin, then lunch when we came home. At least I hope it's just indigestion and not something more serious.

GYA - don't worry: I'll be back to two preschoolers tonight, I hope. DP and DD have gone away for the weekend, and DS is missing them now.

Grrr, Tracyface - I'm not looking forward to the start of nursery tomorrow either...

Aside from the rushed early mornings, I might feel differently, but DD does not seem like she's really enjoying it, now the initial interest at new toys has worn off. After one term, she has one sort-of friend (who she is oddly obsessed with) and no interest really in anyone else (gets on fine with the teachers though). She got more tearful at being left as the term went on and I have (nosily) watched her in the garden on her own or hiding under the table when other children are near. (Which makes me and a bit ) Attempts to get her to play with other children are not exactly making great progress (she just doesn't seem interested). The nursery staff are lovely too, and trying to help.

Sorry for the rant - I just wish things looked like they were improving on this score, but they really don't. I don't like leaving a tearful DD every day and I guess I'm considering whether she should be going at all - but then how will she cope at school?

tracyface · 04/01/2010 10:47

My last baby has left the nest this morning and started nursery and he didnt even cry when I left!

Lets hope he is pleased to see me when I pick him up.

He is only going once a week for two hours but I will be able to have an hour to myself which is great.

Still got a stinky cold and feeling quite rough so has dp and hoping the kids dont catch it.

Chaotica how old is your dd again? Im sure she cant spend all her time on her own at nursery? If the teachers are good they will make sure she is involved. I used to be a nursery teacher and you do get some children that take longer to learn how to join in. There was one little girl that liked being on her own and was happy playing by herself but no-one wants their child to be lonely Hope this term is better for your daughter.

Chaotica · 04/01/2010 21:41

Evening, Ladies

And good one, Isaac! What are you going to do with that hour, Tracyface?

DD's first morning back at nursery wasn't too bad... She complained of feeling ill, but I ignored it, and was very quiet and subdued when we got there, but she didn't seem too traumatised at the end (although not exactly happy). The problem is that (I think) she tells fibs about playing with other children because she thinks that this is what we want to hear. I don't think she does play with any of them but her one friend, but the teachers are doing their best to get her to do things in small groups. (She's OK at group time (she used to meltdown) but doesn't interact with any of the children as individuals IYSWIM.) I hope this term is better (and she doesn't lie to get everybody off her back).

Anyway, afterwards we all went for a freezing cold walk in the woods (beats deep mud any day) and she cheered up a load. So that much is good. Have to see how tomorrow goes. (Hate the return to early mornings!)

Jewelsandgems · 05/01/2010 10:51

Hello ladies I am back! Seems to have gone so quick, and now I am back to the old routine.

chaotica - no I meant lodnod (nickname for london from my yorkshire days) and it was nice. busy, hectic, cold....

Still stressing over Freya's nursery - its too far (exasperated by the heavy snow) to be driving her to her old one, so have started contacting new ones nearer to home. The nearest is a private and I was not impressed, the other one just up the road is full and there is one that is just a few miles away so fingers crossed.

Chaotica sorry to hear about your DD beng unhappy at nursery - maybe this one is just not right for her? Why not try another? She may love it.

tracy hoping the illness is on it's way out and you can start dreaming of summer holidays and warm weather.....I know I am

Speak later girls, have a good one!

Chaotica · 05/01/2010 16:54

Happy new year, J&G and hello everyone else.

Lodnod is a great name. I might adopt it (being from yorkshire once myself). (Actually, I don't think that being from yorkshire is something you can lose... )

Don't think we really can try another nursery, Jewels. There are a couple of private ones in town, but I don't think that they're up to much in comparison to the one she's in. (She knew all the staff from playgroup there, so we thought she'd be OK.) I'm holding out hope that things will improve (although I don't know quite why at the moment).

Are any of you snowed in? We're not quite - but we were supposed to be going away and I suspect that might not happen (to Yorkshire, as it happens).

Hope your DDs are sleeping GYA and you're feeling better Tracyface.

tracyface · 06/01/2010 14:42

Hi we are a bit snowed in well schools and college are closed. I dont mind as I have bread and milk so we can survive.

Dp is supposed to be going skiing tomorrow morning but Gatwick is closed today so dont know if he is going to manage it or not. Its strange it snowed this time last year and it took ages for him to get there, so im guessing it will be the same in the morning.

Its still snowing here and not showing any signs of stopping so I cant wait for the kids to go to bed so I can go out and make some kind of snow sculpture or creation.

Last year me and my teenage son made a huge snow teddy bear it took us hours but was quite impressive if I say so myself!

We are planning on making a train with carriages for the kids to play in which would be great if we can manage it.

Melissa made a lovley little snowman this morning complete with pink scarf and proper carrot nose. (unlike last year when our snowman had to make so with a soggy, limp carrot baton from the bottom of the veg drawer.)

She keeps checking outside tho incase someone steals her pink scarf!

Isaac liked it but kept getting cross as he couldnt walk as fast as he liked in it until he found some car tracks and then he was off running away !

Had to bring him in kicking and screaming cos his snot was starting to turn into icicles! Lovley!

Hope you are all enjoying it and dont have to go out in it unnessarily

Im feeling much better thanks Chaotica

tracyface · 08/01/2010 15:16

Helllooo!!!!!!

Is anybody out there?

Was it something I said????

Chaotica · 08/01/2010 16:44

Hi All and sorry, Tracyface - I wasn't really ignoring you.

We've not been snowed in (but had to cancel the trip north as it's -12 where I was going and near the top of a hill and I didn't fancy an alpine expedition). We just keep getting an inch or two of snow which turns to ice which is then covered with more snow... and so on. So DD's nursery has been going all out with sledging and snow men and snowball fights - until today when they finally decided that the ice and windchill was too much for them and made the kids stay in.

I'm quite enjoying it all, but I don't have to drive to work at the moment (its a very long drive in bad weather). My DCs have forgotten what it is like not to go out in wellies. (It takes me hours to get through the door though.)
