BMJ ? I am guessing british medical jounal . . . is there a link to this / how can I get hold of?

They haven't turned there noses up, just know nowt about it in current format. To be honest I'd rather them know / help more about breast feeding first . . . . need something in baby to need a nappy

Mumface I love washing my nappies too, probaby the only domestic chore I do

Maybe I should investigate how much the council / local NHS spend on addictions & ask for proportion for my nappy addiction

Octothechildherder · 30/09/2009 15:10

Just covers for now but can get anything you need.

If your council want a good example of how a nappy sheme works they can get in touch with Gary Lamont at the Wiltshire Real Nappy Network - ours works really well and have loads going on. I can send you a free DVD you can post on if you like!

Jabula · 30/09/2009 15:23

Ok, just heard back from Hahtuvahullu - nope, they aren't the same as the Tirsokas. They live in the same city though!

I love washing nappies too.

Tirsokas & Hahtuvahullu side snap pocket nappies
I don't think these are the same. I am the sole importer of Tirsokas. There are some other similar ones called Nebula nappies, but they are not the same. The Tirsokas are a much higher quality than the Nebula ones. I don't know about the Hahtuvahulla though. Obviously it's the same PUL fabrics!
The Tirsokas are also 1/3 of the weight of the Haha ones

LittlePants · 30/09/2009 15:43

Oh! You just beat me to that Jabs!

Scotia · 30/09/2009 15:46

Jabula, I love the weenotions pocket with the whale on your site.

I need better inserts though. I've got wonderfulls micro double inserts and Green Acre Designs too but I want something more absorbent. Does anybody have any suggestions of anything that's worked well?

I've had all my custom orders now - 2 WN sidesnaps, 2 AI2s, a WNOS pocket - and I have to say I'm impressed with the AI2s best. The pockets leaked after less than half an hour but the AI2s lasted between 3-5 hours even before washing.

I'm still tempted by the ones on Jabula's site though - might buy it and worry about boosting later

Babybots · 30/09/2009 15:59

Sorry yes British medical journal and midwifery (sp) journal. I think it was int he royal college of midwifes too. I think they are subscription only (my mums a midwife so she showed me)So not sure how youd find it sorry!

A friend of mines Health visitor was disgusted when she said she wanted to use cloth, told her that she would never find clothes to fit her son and she'd never have any time with all the washing!! - WTF! Its a good job she knew me!!!

LittlePants · 30/09/2009 16:03

Scotia Bamboo inserts are more absorbent and slimmer than MF. Do you need MF? If not, I can recommend the P'tits Dessous bamboo insets. They are brill, and seem to fit pretty well any pocket nappy.!

Babybots · 30/09/2009 16:04

Octo..... hmmmmm very inviting! Woulnt have a clue what i wanted though lol just think its something i my little man should try at some point

Babybots · 30/09/2009 16:21

Scotia - have you tried greenkids inserts?

ellielou02 · 30/09/2009 16:53

Hi ladies just back from the nappy launch, it was very good, there is a pic of Millie modeling the new nappy (well its just a wrap) on my profile, will catch up properly later

Scotia · 30/09/2009 16:59

Not tried either of those inserts, thanks LP and Babybots

Is it better to use bamboo than hemp? And do I need microfibre as well?

Ellielou, sounds interesting about the nappy launch. I can't really see the nappy in the picture, but did you say it's tartan? COOL

Babybots · 30/09/2009 17:05

Scotia, id choose hemp over bamboo tbh but the different materials work differently so usually a combination works well.

Did you say you have hemp GAD? Ive got a few and i use them under microfibre (some times with bamboo in between!) it works great together.
Might be worth a try before you spend money on inserts. Usually you can make a system that works with what you have already.

Another one is the blueberry combo inserts.

JennyPennyNAPPYWEB · 30/09/2009 17:14

The only boosters/inserts that I really like are the easy peasy hemp ones. I have them for sale but I have been recomending them on here much longer than I have been a nappy seller, they are great. I usually put bamboo or MF on top but then that makes a very absorbant pocket and perfect for heavy wetters. TBH the EP hemp is absorbant enough, you just need something quick to absorb so you could easily use a flannel or cleaning cloth or something with the hemp one and there you have a cheap insert! They are only £10 for a set of 5 so that works out as £2 each. Or indervidually they are £2.25

As for doctors/HVs etc nobody here knows about them either. My doctor went to undress her at her 6 week check and said "oh you have different nappies" and stood back and let me do it. When I said about reusables etc she just said "Oh thats why she looked big"

Scotia · 30/09/2009 17:17

My GAD inserts are just microfibre - can I just add a booster between the layers to those ones?

JennyPennyNAPPYWEB · 30/09/2009 17:25

Whats GAD?

Babybots · 30/09/2009 17:30

Scotia - Stick either bamboo or hemp underneeth the whole of the Gad mf. Dont put it in between the loop layers of the gad though.

When ever you are using Mf make sure its always on top.Its a really quick absorbing material and holds loads but if little one is a heavy wetter the wetness needs some where to overflow into iyswim! This is where the bamboo or hemp comes in. To in theory catch what the microfibre cant hold. Bamboo doesnt hold as much as hemp so it depends how heavy a wetter you have! If you want to use all 3 use MF on top, Bamboo then hemp furthest from babys bum.

I hope that makes sence!!

Scotia · 30/09/2009 17:31

Green Acre Designs

I wasn't sure about the EP ones because they look so thin I thought they were just for extra boosting. Maybe I could use them with the smaller of the wonderfulls inserts for quick absorbing. Do you think that would work? They seem a really good buy, but I'm worried about it being a false economy and having to buy more expensive ones as well. Have you used them in pockets with any success?

Scotia · 30/09/2009 17:35

Cross posts, thanks again Babybots

I think I'll just get some hemp for underneath the microfibre inserts I have. He's not really a very heavy wetter, but I just get some wicking at the legs that I don't get with the AI2s.

Babybots · 30/09/2009 17:42

Yes id of thought the EP hemp will be more than fine to mop up any excess!

Mf is like a sponge too so if you put pressure on it it leaks. Bamboo will be ok if you have any though. Hemp will be more than fine. Dont worry about it being slim thats just the material, takes a fair few washes to be fully absorbant and shrinks down a fair bit. Nice and slim for little one though!

(From what you've said the Blueberry inserts will be good for you too.)

Hope that all helped a bit! EP will be cheaper than buying a load of new inserts.

Scotia · 30/09/2009 17:48

You've been a great help! Now to just buy some...

JennyPennyNAPPYWEB · 30/09/2009 18:01

If you want EP hemop ones then I was about to put them on my site tonight so let me know. I am happy to sort it out for you. But thats not why I recomended them! So feel free to buy elsewhere - dont feel you have to buy from me.

They are great in pockets. I use them in all my pockets, night nappies, fitteds if they need boosting. Love 'em.
