Oh right, my DD was small too (6lb 6 at birth but then slow weight gain). We have got a stash of disposables for the first couple of weeks (which we got free so wasn't turning down!) but then hope to go onto washables from there.

Are there any onesize nappies that are actually good on a newborn? They all seem quite big? My main reason for wanting onesize is that I wanted to be able to have one nappy for both babies, so I wouldn't have to have 2 seperate ones.

Not sure if I can justify getting anymore small nappies though, as IF/when I find all of DDs in the loft, we do have tonnes of small nappies. One set that I did love we some really basic ones I got from freecycle! They were quite thin, so wouldn't absorb much wee, but at that stage we were changing so often it didn't matter. It was just that they were so basic, but slim fitting, easy to use (shaped with velcro that the lady had sewn on herself). I hope I can find them! They dried quite well too because they were thin. I used them as boosters for a while too, inside a MEOS at night time.

I really have no idea why we have been using disposables for the last few months?

swampster · 20/02/2009 15:31

ilove... I really love Ittis BUT find they last a maximum of two hours on DS2 before soaking his clothes - and I use the extra microfibre booster every time. Now, Blueberry Minkis - there's beauty AND reliability... at even more of a price!

I am wondering if DS3 needs the chocolate and lime Ittis I've been promising him or whether he'd prefer another Blueberry...

Swampster I wonder if your DS2 is very wet, or mine is freakishly dry?! I can use the trifold insert with just a fleece liner, and the outer nappy will still be bone dry and reusable 3-4 hours later (except in his morning 'soggy' period, when he needs the hourglass booster too).
DS is a new man after the explosion of doom, wonder whether it will induce him to sleep for more than 45 mins on the trot tonight?

4andnotout · 20/02/2009 18:15

DD3 is a really heavy wetter yet can wear her ittis for up to 6 hours if we are out and about I have money in pp burning a hole but im trying to save enough for a footmuff and matching stay put blanket from the pushchair board to go on my phil & teds.

swampster · 20/02/2009 18:26

I always thought DS2 was quite dry - in comparison to DS1 who used to get through 8 to 10 nappies on a morning-to-soon-after-lunch-time-excursion. I used to have to take disposables as I couldn't bear lugging a dozen sopping nappies around all the time.

thebluefoxategreensocks · 20/02/2009 21:09

lollipop: Re Surecare, yes, I think it seems to wash out well so not leaving a build up. So far no problems - nappies all coming clean etc. (then again, I do rinse my nappies out thoroughly before putting in bucket, so can't say what it would be like for rather messy nappies put straight in). But I was having a lot of problems in the past with stinky nappies, and although I used different powders when I initally sorted it (with lots of pre rinses), the smell certainly hasn't come back. They come out smelling clean, without having any sort of scent (whether good or bad, if you know what I mean! )

soon2be: Re what to do with prefolds, do you have any pocket nappies? I find them fab for stuffing pockets (instead of microfibre) and they last loads longer, esp good for heavy wetters!

Hopefully · 20/02/2009 21:14

I use ecover liquid (hated by almost everyone), don't do a pre rinse or a rinse after the wash, and have an ancient washing machine. Took a good 3 months to get any kind of build up of washing stuff in the nappy, and we've never had any smells. I have read that bamboo is naturally antibacterial, so perhaps having only bamboo nappies has helped? who knows.

Have bumhugger to try tonight, how exciting!

lollipopmother · 20/02/2009 21:32

Hopefully - Arrrgh you really should do a pre-rinse, the water you're washing with has got poo in it!!

I find that hemp reeeeeeeks, but bamboo isn't so bad, but it does still pick up a mousey smell with me which racks me off because I do an extra rinse afterwards and I don't use much powder so I'm ready to make a change.

Lollipoppet's bum has been pretty red again today, it started off ok but has deteriorated significantly around the legs. I wonder whether it's the nappies rubbing her thighs because the main rash isn't inside her Itti's, and it seems to get temporarily better overnight when she's in WeeNotions that are significantly wider between the legs.

My new porn

swampster · 20/02/2009 21:39

Lollipop, I found DS2 (rubber-arse) got reddish round the legs after wearing Ittis (ignored it though).

swampster · 20/02/2009 21:41

I have got off on that site too, 4. Should we all pool together to become a retailer and pass our profits on to ourselves?

4andnotout · 20/02/2009 21:44

Our dc's would be wearing our profits

TheLadyEvenstar · 20/02/2009 21:46

soon2be how does £15 plus postage sound?

lollipopmother · 20/02/2009 21:55

Swamp - Well I know that the red marks started long before I bought any Itti's as I was blaming the Sandy's and Airflows, but she doesn't wear either anymore and it's worse than ever now.

cyteen · 20/02/2009 22:20

soon you were asking about night nappies - I am a relative newcomer to cloth but these lovely ladies steered me in the direction of Baby Beehinds with a fleece wrap, since when my DS (super heavy wetter) has never been happier through the night

Had another wee leak with a Fuzzi today...my own fault really, I know they're no good for anything past a couple of hours unless extra boosted.

soon2befamilyof4 · 20/02/2009 22:23

TLE - Can I let you know? 4 sold me one the other day but I haven't used it yet so not sure how I will get on with them. Can I try it out tomorrow and see how I go? Feel free to sell them to somebody else in the meantime though, don't save them for me or anything.

Can I ask, this is for general knowledge not just for the possibility of buying these from TLE. What is the difference between the different types of tots bots? How many different types are there and which are best? I am not familiar with different materials at all and until a couple of weeks ago, thought there was just one type of tots bots! I will try and have a look online now but thought you might enlighten me.

TheLadyEvenstar · 20/02/2009 22:30

SOON TBH I hated them. Zachary is a heavyyyyyyyyyyyy wetter and I found these not abdorbant enough. Especially at night times.

I also have loadssssssssssss of size 2 cotton totsbots.

TheLadyEvenstar · 20/02/2009 22:31

Hmmmm Just looked also have some ellas house bumhuggers which are brill night time nappies imho

soon2befamilyof4 · 20/02/2009 22:33

Oh and meant to say (baby brain - I keep forgetting everything!!).

Thanks for the tip with prefolds and pockets. What sort of size prefold do you use? I had a couple of mommys touch pockets (which I am desperate to find!!) and didn't buy the inserts as I thought I could use prefolds but they just leaked everywhere! DD is bigger now but they were onesize. A mumsnetter told me at the time it was because with pockets the insert needs to be touching all sides and so my prefold wasn't the right shape etc?? Was really disapointed as the pockets were the only nappies I have ever bought brand new and were quite expensive (for me anyway). Desperate to find them now I have other pockets too! And in what ways do you fold them?

Would love to know if anybody uses redbush tea, have tried googling it with no luck!

Will have a look at the Baby Beehinds! Thanks

4andnotout · 20/02/2009 22:47

What size bumhugers have you got TLES?

soon2befamilyof4 · 20/02/2009 22:56

I would be interested too TLES if 4 doesn't take them.

ilovemydogandMrObama · 20/02/2009 22:58

An insert needs to be touching all sides? I've used an old Bambino Mio (prefold) stuffed into a Sandy. I think you just need to do what works for you...

Sainsbury's has redbush tea.

4andnotout · 20/02/2009 23:01

i havent ever had a mommy's touch that hasn't leaked, i never found them reliable.

soon2befamilyof4 · 20/02/2009 23:02

Well thats what I thought recently actually. Think she must have been wrong because I think even a lot of the proper inserts don't fit 100%?

I have got the redbush tea in my cupboard! It has been sitting there waiting to find a use! Which is why It would be fab to find out I can use it as a wipe solution or something!
