TheLadyEvenstar: Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner! We were out all day so only got to computer tonight. Really, I wasn't trying to get nappies off you without buying! I'd only suggested a couple of Tots instead of the Fuzzis that didn't arrive last month. But seeing you've got the Fuzzis back to you, then really don't worry about sending anything extra - really! But wow, around 60 size 2 Tots???! You could go a long time without washing nappies...if only you had a huge washing machine! (just kidding btw, as you'd have rotten nappies if you waited till using 60 before washing! LOL)

Re: rashes from changing washing powders, my daughter got nasty rash when she was younger when I tried Persil. And recently I tried Ariel Bio (as some ppl say it washes really well & doesn't leave any bubbles behind) but my little boy got a terrible rash and still has scars on his bottom from scratching. Makes me annoyed that I ever thought to try something new - but I'd had a build up/smell I was trying to get rid of, and the Ariel was so nice & had them smelling lovely! At the moment I'm using Surcare with no problems - no rash, and seems to not leave any reside behind either, and no smelly nappies either! Just doesn't have a scent at all - but as long as you get used to that, no problems. I end up washing nappies every day (since Benjamin goes through so many!)....so they're not sitting around long at all - but when I pull my nappies out of the washing machine (after a pre-rinse and then 60 degree wash) they do smell very clean & fresh. No scent of detergent - but certainly like clean nappies!

4andnotout · 20/02/2009 08:44

Morning all

Have managed to get the nappies out and on the line today so fingers crossed they will dry, it will be lovely to get a bit of fresh air on them

I should have my 5 new itti's coming today or tommorow, worked out cheap 5 bn for £53 including recorded delivery. She is going to do another order so i might end up with some more if i can shift a few more nappies

Lolipop Thats a good amount you've earnt from your sales, i know that about 1/4 of that is just from my purchases Can you not switch to boring nappies that i wont covet

I have so much to do today but i cant really be bothered! DD2 has got to have her pre-school jabs today which is going to really chuff her off Perhaps i'll get dp to take her as his penance...

TheLadyEvenstar · 20/02/2009 08:48

Rachel lol and they are just the ones Zachary has grown out of lol. I am finding the rise is not big enough for him and he has a permanant builderes bum in them lolol.
I didn't manage to get to the post office but am going to go today, sorry hunni, have been in agony with my back but no worries i will get there today, am sending you the 2 fuzzis and 2 tots, the tots are not in perfect condition hun 1 of them has a stain on that i cannot get out but then i have nowhere to sun them in....our courtyard is overshadowed by the walls.

Hello! Can I join you please? I am just going back to using washables with DD - 14 months and will soon have a newborn too (due april) who will hopefully be in washables once we are home and sorted. Using a bit of everything really, council said a good month ago that they were going to send me some info about how to borrow one of their trial packs but still haven't heard back so think I need to get onto them today! Would be very useful to try some out as i have made so many mistakes with nappies that are just rubbish!

4andnotout · 20/02/2009 09:06

Hiya soon i just left a message on your kshies thread, there is a wanted ad on ukparentslounge for some, How are you getting on with the nappies?

Hopefully · 20/02/2009 09:08

4 where did you manage to get them that cheap?!
I ordered some from Twinkle the other day, but haven't had an email saying they've been dispatched - emailed yesterday to see when they might be as I want to use pretty new nappies!

Urgh, so tired - vomiting bug then amazing non-sleeping baby.

4andnotout · 20/02/2009 09:16

Someone from CNT does a wholesale order and then we pay her when she gets them, i paid via proper paypal for a bit of reassurance but she assures me they will be here today or tommorow so im sure she is genuine I got medium and larges in black & lilac and a large fuscia.

AnnVan · 20/02/2009 09:33

Hello everyone.
lollipop have you tried chamomile on your DD's bottom? Also one of my PN ladies says her mum swears by Roibos (redbush) tea for nappy rash. My mum swears cornflour really works, and some people say egg white. Just throwing those ideas in there, as if it's that bad and the creams aren't workng it might be worth trying some of these?

mumoftoby · 20/02/2009 10:15

Hi all.
lollipop - i really hope her little bottom isn't so sore today.
ilmd - thanks for the tip I am sending DH to sainsburys on his way home to get some lansinoh, no longer bf but handy for wool and nappy rash. When I was breastfeeding I used to get it on prescription - can you not? Saves a small fortune.

soon2befamilyof4 · 20/02/2009 10:36

I didn't know you could use redbush tea on bums. Do you just use it as a wipe solution? I have had some redbush tea kicking around for ages and would be great to find a use for it!

4- thanks for that about the kushies, will have to have a look. Although since listing them, I used them on DD and they haveactually worked fine so far, although haven't had a poo in them. They have sat around the house for months not being used as I didn't get on with them when DD was small! Got loads up in the loft somewhere but can't find loads of my nappies! So frustrating!

Thanks for your nappies too. I love them bumgenious ones! Have used all your nappies once but then they have been in the wash etc. Most are now dry, except the modern baby pop in - seems to be taking forever to dry, is this normal? I don't mind at all because I have enough to keep me going, just wondering if you found the same thing? They are not near the radiator though because I didnt want them to go too crunchy! I was hoping to use the pop in for night time but it did leak very slightly, but DD seems to be a heavy wetter at night and I am yet to find a nappy that is 100% leak proof with her, including disposables. It certainly didn't leak any more than her disposables, which is what we usually use at night. So think we will use it for night time when it is clean and dry. Untill I find a super night time nappy anyway!

I am now looking for some more bumgenious nappies, and have posted a wanted on nappy board. Trouble is, they are quite expensive and we don't have much money to inves really. So keeping my eye out for bargains!

Does anybody know of good places to buy and sell washables that is NOT an auction? I don't have the patience for auctions and I just want to know the price up front if I am buying something.

lollipopmother · 20/02/2009 10:38

Thanks for the rash tips ladies. Today it seems quite clear, just a bit red and dry at the inner thighs.

Rachel This Surcare you use, when you say nice smelling and no residue, do you mean no build-up? If you do then I'm getting some for sure, because my nappies all end up ponging from build-up even with extra rinses and occasional soapnuts and eco ball washes. But then maybe my machine just hasn't been working properly.

ILMD Yes, 5 months last weekend. He's referred to her as 'the brat' on various occasions ever since she had colic as a newborn.

AnnVan - I use camomile tea for my wipes but I've been adding essential oils that I'm now going to cut out to see if that helps.

OP posts:
AnnVan · 20/02/2009 11:36

Lollipop I have surcare - I use it on Seb's clothes, but I don'tfind that it has quite nough oomph to get th nappies properly clean. Doe leave seb's clothes fresh though (it's got no perfume in it, and I find most detergents STINK of perfume)

Soon - Redbush has lots of uses (I'm from SA, so I was practically weaned on the stuff) It's really good for settling upset tums when drunk without milk. For young children who are weaning, brew it up an allow to cool and they can drink it like that (it's very good for them) I tend to drink it in the afternoons, as I'm a tea addict, but find if I have caffeine in the afternoons I can't sleep, so I replace tea with rooibos in the afternoons. I can ask the other lady about using it on bums, I'll admit I hadn't heard of that one before she posted it the other day.

ilovemydogandMrObama · 20/02/2009 11:42

lollipop My mil has referred to DD as a 'little madam', when she's just been tired. I have said in the past to mil, 'now, if you say that again, you'll have to sit on the naughty step...'

We use either Surcare or Bio D powder. Both are unscented and fairly gentle...

4andnotout · 20/02/2009 11:44

Soon I use clothnappytree, ukparentslounge, and here mainly to buy and sell nappies The pop in's do take ages to dry as bamboo like hemp takes ages to dry. I cant use them as night nappies either, both mine wear bumhuggers with airflows and in dd3's case a couple of hemp boosters too

TheLadyEvenstar · 20/02/2009 12:02

Anyone interested in 5 totsbots bamboozle size 2 nappies, i bought them washed them used them once and hated them?

am doing photos later of all the nappies i am getting rid of.

soon2befamilyof4 · 20/02/2009 12:43

Thelady - How much are you selling them for? I have been told I am now only allowed to use money from the things I sell now so it depends if I can sell some more stuff today. We don't have money in the bank so have to rely on the paypal income from sales!

Should really stop buying stuff and get on with finding the huge stash of nappies I have in the loft somewhere! It is easier said than done though as I physically can't get up there and DH is working till 11pm at the moment. He has a day off on Sunday though. But even then, our loft is stacked up so high, he might not find them!

Does anybody have any good uses for prefolds? I have tonnes of them (again, when I find them in the loft). Litterally about 3 birth to potty sets!!! I would sell them, but they are so heavy to post, it probably wouldn't really be worth while? One thing I found them fab for when DD was tiny was putting one or two down on a nappy mat and letting DD lie there for a bit with her nappy off, and the prefold would absorb any wee. She would lie there for ages as she loved having her nappy off! Would put a mobile or something above her and leave her to it! But that went to pot as soon as she learnt to roll! Some are in quite good nick, others are very worn and tatty, but still very absorbant so I am sure they could be used for something? Was thinking boosters but they are probably too big/thick? Has anybody actually got on with using them as nappies? We had them when DD was tiny and planned to use them all the way through but they were just so fiddly. DH hated them and they were annoying to take out etc, and at the time, we were out most days. Maybe I should give them another go now DD is on solids and not breastfeeding etc.

Hopefully · 20/02/2009 13:32

I don't actually know what prefolds even are . Can cope with 2 parters and AIOs, everything else is lost on me.

lollipop I'm glad E's rash is a bit better today.

Damn knitting shop didn't have any Aran weight wool (well, they had aran weight acrylic/wool mix, which nearly fooled me, but I realised in the nick of time!), so I'm off to order some online.

Ooh, one of my preloved bumhuggers came today - going to give it a try once it's had a wash and dry. Going to stop waking T for his dreamfeed (we're trying everything to put a stop to the current twice hourly waking overnight) so need a nappy that will really last the distance now!
On the list of things I have coming to try overnight are; bumhugger, BBH, WNNN, and all with tots bots size 2 wrap, motherease wrap and knitted wrap when I finally get my wool!

soon2befamilyof4 · 20/02/2009 13:46

Hopefully - a prefold is a bit like a terry nappy. It is a flat nappy that you fold in 3 to make a rectangle and then put it inside a wrap. You can do other folds etc with it but we never got that far!

Anybody got any tips for nappies that withstand newborn, breastfed exploding poo? Lol. I remember with DD, for the first few months, we had to wash the wrap at every nappy change because there was always poo on it.

ilovemydogandMrObama · 20/02/2009 13:51

Motherease Sandy's Extra Small

But would advise getting their wraps....

soon2befamilyof4 · 20/02/2009 13:58

Was that for me Obama? I have some motherease onesize - I guess they wouldn't do the same thing?

TheLadyEvenstar · 20/02/2009 14:35

soon2be Make me an offer, I am just trying to fund buying Zachary some bigger nappies

soon2befamilyof4 · 20/02/2009 14:45

I have no idea! I will have a think!

Can I ask how often you all change you children's nappies when in washables? I have forgotten how often you should do it? I am used to disposables where you can feel if they get quite wet! With these I guess I wouldn't know until she leaked and it was too late!

Haven't had a poo in a washable yet this time round! Don't know if it is just pot luck or what but everytime DD has been in a disposable - she has done her poo! Different times of the day and everything. That won't last though as hopefully as soon as my new wraps come through, which should be tomorrow, I should have enough washables to use them full time, and just have a disposable at night (because I haven't found a nappy that will hold in all her wee yet!).

DD doesn't seem to be too much of a heavy wetter in the day I don't think. Seems to be mainly at night. But she does drink between 10-30oz of milk between the time her night nappy goes on and when we change her when she wakes up! Might have to change her when she wakes if we don't find anything but it completly wakes her up as she hates nappy time and it is such hard work to get a nappy on her!

Hopefully · 20/02/2009 15:03

OMG, I have to just say how impressed I am with the containment ability of the itti bitti. DS has been incredibly constipated, and currently on suppositories and extra water to try to sort it out (whoever said BF babies don't get constipated is a big old liar - he's been constipated since birth!). Anyway, the long awaited nappy explosion appeared just now, and despite having been on for 3 hours with only the trifold booster and a fleece liner, the itti bitti didn't leak a drop. And I kid you not, when I opened the nappy, the stuff poured out over the changing station . Totally gross, but impressive nonetheless!

drlove8 · 20/02/2009 15:05

hello, hows everyone today?. ive just finnished putting the aplix on my wee wrap and tried it on dd4. its ok but doesnt go around her legs properly, gaps at the side too much.oh well.... suppose i'll just have to buy that bluberry after all , just to cheer myself up! lol am thinking about getting some of the bambinex all in ones in manderin. seen them in mothercare for about £13 each, dont know if theyre any good , as no-one seems to have used them!.lollipop, could your LO be alergic to lanonin? i think its used in a lot a creams. .hope shes better soon x

ilovemydogandMrObama · 20/02/2009 15:07

Please please stop all this praise for Itti Bittis! I am so tempted just for cute factor, but then people come onto this board and point out how practical they are!

Soon Yes, Motherease All in One are fairly big on a newborn. Sandy's extra small were great for mine as they were really skinny. Think both were on 4th percentile for weight and 50th of length
