College, Uni, OU or anything else. How's it going? The good the bad and the obscure.

tammybear · 01/10/2008 20:35

Yup she's an only child too. That's what worries me most. And the fact that I couldn't think of having the next one until I finish, or pretty close to finishing the course, which is 3 years... Very scary thought.

Am about to start doing my homework again now lol.

Wow Noonki. That sounds fab that they were cool with you bringing in DS2. You'll have to give us some tips with juggling everything with very young kids too!

Well done JDBgirl for avoiding it. I've passed it on to DD too, I'm worried she's gonna have to have Friday off school cause then I'll be missing my second Friday of lectures.

FairLady, I'd be annoyed too if that was my dp tbh. Lol. But glad to hear things seem to be clicking more for you with things falling into place. I'm still trying to get through all that lol.

FairLadyRantALot · 01/10/2008 22:21

Well, just sorted all the stuff we had to print out into the different sections of my Folder and also created online folders for each subject, as we were adviced to put everything we print and do, also into virtual files....will also need to get the hang of my memory stick...and I suppose I should also burn Cd's etc...any other way you can back up files....can't think right now...but I am sure I have heard Back up copies mentioned....

Well....apparently no one told the lecturer of one of the moduesl that we were told that we were off tomorrow afternoon, so, I suppose now we are not...sigh...could have done with that, but what can you do....so, no gym for me tomorrow, and no library neither...
well I suppose I can go tomorrow evening on my Personal Computer and prnt out those article here....which reminds me, must research cheaper cartridges for my printer...as our printer uses rather expensive ones....over £20 per cartridge....so, at the moment printing out at Uni is cheaper despite costing 5p per black and white copy....

must also find out if we will be told all the things we NEED to print out, and if of the other things it is enough to just access it online, rather then printing hardcopies...

Well, the session that is now on tomorrow (Foundations for Practice) will have us work in a group on a case study, that will be interesting , I think...it was a group we kind of could choose...i.e. we filled our nmaes into a sheet, so, we could work with friends, which is nice....our group contains of lots of mature students, I think...and the names I recognise I am pleased with

notalone and tammy....I can understand where you are coming from with your worry about your Kids being only children...however, think of it this way....they don't have siblings to fight wiht and the little bit of time you have can go onto them alone...my poor Kids have to share that little time between the 3 of them...and ys and ms are horrific with teh fighting, because they are close-ish in age (4 and nearly 6...)

tammybear · 01/10/2008 22:40

Aww that's true in some ways FairLady. But sorry to hear bout the new module you now seem to have. That sucks.

But yes I have my work so far saved on computer hard drive, spare hard drive, memory sticks, and as drafts on my email lol. Going to get a spare memory stick, one of those that hangs on as a keyring so I'll always have it with me in case I have an emergency whilst at college.

Just printed out one of my assignments, and my ink cartridges are getting low. So will also need to investigate into cheaper ones too. Hmm. But don't forget 10% student discount! Lol.

Now tomorrow is my day off. I've got 3 more pieces of work to do, not needing to be done by next week, but want out of the way asap. But would like to get to gym. Wanting to loose a stone by December. So not gonna happen at this rate, especially with no time to get to the gym.

a friend tpld me about a websitte called rubberfrog....apparently they do recycled cartridges....not looked on the website myself, but worth checking out!

Oh, it's not a new module added, just that we start it this week rather than next, iykwim....it seems to be an interesting one, so, in that respect it's not bad....it just means I can't do what I thought I could tomoorow afternoon....

FairLadyRantALot · 01/10/2008 22:46

oh, good luck with those assignments and btw, we have the same weightloss goal for x-mas....do you do any weightloss class or do you do it yourself...
I am a Slimmingworld Girl and whilst progress is slow this time it is coming off and I kinda dropped a dress-size since may

tammybear · 01/10/2008 23:34

Ooo just had a look. £10-12 for my printer depending if I want a remanufactured or original one. Currys sell my ink for £17.99 so saving a few pounds there. You can also try ebuyer.com. My DP loves that site so would probably be very proud of me for mentioning it HA. They don't have the ones I need though, unless I'm completely blind so not so hopefully for me!

Oh okay, got that wrong lol.

Ooo are you? Well done on the weight loss so far. I had a go at the kick start on Weight Watchers, as my mum's lost about 2 stone through WW. I lost 5lbs but then went on holiday and put it back on lol! Haven't really looked into Slimming World. Do you recommend it? I use to try and go gym twice a week and do classes. I find I sweat a lot more doing that than doing my own thing in the gym lol. But my usual classes are on the days I go college, so now I need to find new classes on my days off, but none of them really appeal to me. So shall have to see. Might try one next week and see how I get on with it. If not, I'll have to build up some sort of fitness plan or something lol.

FairLadyRantALot · 01/10/2008 23:45

lol... have done SW and WW...with WW I did the core plan, or such..because I could not count ppoints, as I would only eat rubbish then.but less food, really...
with SW I can , generally eat lots...right now I have to find the time, lol...but it';s kinda no chore ww, but slightly all the time, tehrefore, different....making free foods free all the time, and therefore you don't cram anything in...like on WW I only ate treee meals but I would make sure I was very full and even eat, the free foods when they were free, ratehr then taking s yoghurt a hour later and having to count it!

tammybear · 02/10/2008 18:49

I did the points plan on WW, but was a nightmare when they were all used up but felt so hungry in the evening. Haven't really looked at the core plan. I'll have to look into SW then and see if I'd get on with that.

Finished one assignment. Started my next one, though this one doesn't need to be done til Tuesday and with DD being at her gran's on Saturday night, I have a bit of freedom then, and also have Monday off. Just have one more bit of homework to do after this, and I'm free til it all piles up again next week! Lol.

FairLadyRantALot · 02/10/2008 20:33

Hello...oh I am shattered....twas a lng day...and another one of those tomorrow, lol...

Mus say I am feeling very low today....possibly not helped by the fact that dh's backtyre (on his Motorbike) was flat and that meant he needed to take the car, which then means I have t wait till he is home to be ablket to leave and in the evening he will have to go as soon as I arrive....sigh...we don't really need that right now.
But he made the decision to see if the Joboffer is still open to him, at the company I work for...it would mean a big drop in wages, but he is soooo unhappy where he is right now, and well, all teh money in the world isn't worth being miserable like he is...
However, I will discuss if I can go into part time , as that will enable me to work some shifts a month....am hoping to get 1 waking night a week, as that would be really worth it moneywise...!Will see about this...well, and discuss it properly with dh...when we actually see eachother...
Anyway, I will be off to bed in a moment....hopefully I will be feeling better tomorrow and feel more positive, lol....sorry for moaning so much....

tammybear · 02/10/2008 21:10

Aww I'm sorry to hear you're finding it hard at the moment. And of course you can have a moan on here

I was extremely unhappy where I was, and was made redundant which I was pretty happy about, but then was stuck with no income besides benefits. I was more happier worrying about how I was gonna pay my bills than having to be stuck in that job. So it may be worth a shot.

Can you both try and arrange a couple of hours where you can spend some "us" time? Just forget about everything that needs doing, and preferably kids in bed.

And I wonder how everyone else is getting on? Wonder if everyone's so busy to get on here.

FreakyLadyFrightALot · 02/10/2008 21:23

tammy...think it is just extra hard right now, because dh had 6 nights in a row, then only 2 days off (which he mostly slept on) and now back on 4 nights...so....there just wasn't time to spend, as such....
and then on Sunday we had that bust pipe in the bathroom, which meant water leakred through the ceiling into the livingroom and today his motorbike probs....just NOT what we need, sigh!

On a positive note....it now looks like Monday and Wednesday are both study days....so, that is good....it is only 3 days at University(although, I am planning on going Mondays anyway, and study in the library, making the most of teh rescources at Uni and having a good gym session, too)....unless there is mandaotry training on or somehting like that....so....I suppose it might not be as full on, even part time...oh, I will have to see...at the moment my brain is NOT working.....lol...

Oh, tammy you are doing well with having assignemtns ready early...

notalone, how is it going for you and JDB and everyone else...what you up, too?

Well...off to bed now, I think....

FreakyLadyFrightALot · 02/10/2008 21:25

oh and how do you like my Halloween name

tammybear · 02/10/2008 22:05

Lol love it! Shall have to change mine soon!

But oh poor you. So much going off all at once, and all of it not good. So not what you need. Hope things pick up asap for you!

My DP works nights too, but we don't live together. He works til midnight, doesn't get home til nearer 1, and usually sleeps in til 1pm, so feels like I rarely speak to him let alone see him. I usually see him at the weekend, but we're both dead poor at the moment, so I have to wait 2 weeks now before I see him next

But your days sound like mine. I have Monday and Thursdays off for studying (or catching up on homework and stuff at the moment lmao). But sounds like a good plan going in for one day. Especially if you can go use the gym lol. I was thinking of trying out a new class on Monday. Need to find my motivation somewhere hehe.

FreakyLadyFrightALot · 03/10/2008 18:09

Well...much better day today....wohoo...all worked like clockwork today....phew...
My dh, where he works right now works 7pm-7am....however, he contacted .
Well, he did contact the company who offered him a Job to see if that offer still stands and should find out on Monday....so...am crossing all I have for him right now....
I think he would have far more job satisfaction in that job....

As for Uni, we had our INtroduction to the human health module and were playing about with some skeleletons for part of the session...and in the afternoon we were working in small groups learning about reflection...
Notalone....how are you doing?
Jdb and everyone else...you o.k.?

Oh, met the girl I did the academic skills course with today, that was nice! She started her nursing diploma in January and is nearly through her first year now....

JDBfangirl · 03/10/2008 22:24

Hello new people... just back from work (yes I'm crackers enough to try and juggle a job too)

Today involved lots of A and P Cardiovascular and Cells and Tissue. First thing we had an intro to Mental Health Nursing which was really good and interesting. Now have 3 days to catch up and get stuff sorted. I have work and books scattered all over the house which I'm hoping to sort over the weekend. Am working Sun morning and evening. Plan to spend some time with DS and maybe get some writing done too if I'm lucky.

Got that team building next week. The weather has been chuffing cold so shall dig out thermals.

Oooh got first two placements confirmed. Have Urology/Vascular wards first and then a step down facility based at local hospital. Am dead chuffed

OP posts:
FreakyLadyFrightALot · 03/10/2008 22:35

jdb, sorry being ignorant, but what is a step down facility?

Urology/vascular is combined? That is a interesting combination then..urology..you need a good sense of humour, lol....and you need to be tough,lol...toilet humour if I remember correctly from fellow nursing students in my year...

tammybear · 03/10/2008 23:14

Glad to hear things are a bit better today FreakyLady. Got my fingers crossed for your dh!

JDBfangirl, wow job too, you are brave! I can just about cope with Uni and normal life lol. Your two placements sound cool. Glad you're happy with them

Well today was okay. But first time I felt like I didn't really belong in the group. There's only 10 of us in the class (only 8 of us had turned up today) but felt like 6 of them had formed like a gang type thing, and I felt really odd trying to talk to them. Urgh I hate that part of school. I'm quite quiet and unless I know someone well enough, I can't just strike up a conversation other than the "so what you doing this weekend?" kind of stuff. So yeah, not looking forward to next week so much now

FreakyLadyFrightALot · 03/10/2008 23:22

oh dear tb....not a nice experience.....

tammybear · 04/10/2008 00:42

No, weren't too happy. Especially as I thought I'd have gotten past that stage but oh well. I've gotta go down to our uni to register again on Weds as there was a problem with my original one, but luckily two of the guys need to go down, so I've offered one of them a lift, so hopefully I can make a new friend then lmao. Dunno, hoping it was just an off day, and it'll be fine next week. Cause then I start getting paranoid bout my age, as everyone else is at least 5 years younger than me, which really isn't a huge gap, but big enough for me! Lol. x

FreakyLadyFrightALot · 04/10/2008 09:21

oh tammybear....I know what you mean.
If I have a bad day and someone looks "wrong" at me, I may think about it afterwards for ages, rying to analyse it, etc....and driving myself crazy in the meanwhile....and as for paranoia....well...nt unknown for me to become all paranoid....
luckily on our course there is loads of mature students...and I am not the oldest of those, lol....
must say I was a bit when one of the people told me yesterday their age, and they were only a few years older than me, but I had thought that person was quite a lot older then me....oooops....

tammybear · 04/10/2008 10:24

Lmao that's quite funny. There's a guy that's a year older than me so I'm not the oldest, but he acts like a teen lol.

I'm exactly like that! Lol. But hoping it'll be fine next week, and just me being silly after all things have been fine before then

JDBfangirl · 04/10/2008 12:58

Tammy Am sure everyone is a scared as you are and clinging to other people for security.

A step down facility is for those who are well enough to be discharged from hospital but still need care arrangements made. You're not ignorant... I had to look it us too when I first saw it

I'm being sent between two wards so thats why I've gor Urology and Vascular. I guess I may end up on both or one. Will have to give them a call ina week or so and introduce myself and arrange a look around. I think I'm more frightened of making that phone call than I am of anything else.

tiredemma · 04/10/2008 13:02

JDB- I did a vascular surgery placement in my first year. It was fascinating and almost made me want to change my branch choice to Adult Nursing.
See if you can get into the theatres, I saw amputations, Thyoidectomies, femoral bypasses. It was a great experience.

tiredemma · 04/10/2008 13:03

thyroidectomies sorry!

OsmosisBanana · 04/10/2008 13:04
