College, Uni, OU or anything else. How's it going? The good the bad and the obscure.

Tammy. That presentation sounds horrendous. We have to do something kind of similarish soon too. We hae to think of a meaningful activity lasting an hour and then lead the group in doing the activity while being assessed and videoed by our tutors. Aaarrgghhhh!!!!

Aw Osmosis. That sounds horrid. Come to my uni - I'll be your friend. It does have that back to school / new girl feel doesn't it? I have found on my course that the mature students tend to stick together and the 18 years olds stick together too. We are being split into groups soon and from what I can gather most or if not all of mine are 18 / 19 so we really won't have much in common.

Fairlady - you are doing so well by the sounds of it. You have got all that work done AND done a gym induction. Well done you! Your interprofessional group sounds lovely - must be a weight off your mind hey?

Lol at your loons Lollipop - think you have enough there to last ya for a bit!

FairLadyRantALot · 24/09/2008 22:47

Well...am knackered, and quite ready to use a sledgehammer on my Computer right now
I have been online for ages trying to find suitable mateiral for my part of the Poster exercise and am ready to cry
Because I have found some and can't seem to transfer it into my Word document to print it out....sigh...as I wanted to make the document a bit smaller, sigh...but will have to print the whole lot out, I suppose....

Had OH check today and got my HepB jab....but apparnelty meningitis one would have to be done via GP...so, will see if I get an appointment for next week monday or wednesday and hope they feel sorry for me being a poor student and therefore not charge....lol....

anyways...am knackered and gotta get up early in the morning.....

btw...I do HATE groupwork...not because the others aren't really lovely...but because of the responsibilities on your shoulders to keep your part of the deal....iykwim....

anywyas, it's printing it out...wohoo....tis something!

Notalone, glad you had a good day
Tbh, last night I went to bed pondering if I should see if I can do teh course part time...it would only put one year on top....but will see how things go....

JDBfangirl · 25/09/2008 16:30

I'm getting early nights and am still knackered, yawned by way through the lecture this morning... it was interesting but small child was talking to himself loudly at 6 this morning which doesn't help!

Lollipop - 2 films huh? What about? I have a video assignment, have to video myself talking to someone else AND write a 3000 word essay on it. I can't stand watching myself on video so this is going to be really hard.

Fairlady, it might be worth asking your doctor for a presciption for jab, they shouldn't charge you (although mine tried to)

Have just done 2 hours of ironing although I haven't done it all, that was about as much as I could take! Going to do some more study after tea and try get another early night (not that it seems to be doing much good!)

One has to be about a word. Our group got "people". The other has to be about a location. Oh, did I mention we're going to Keswick to make them? We're all off on a field trip. Can't wait.

FairLadyRantALot · 25/09/2008 18:14

hallo....well...am absolutely knackered, lol...and shall have an early night...

JDB I have got ironing to do...but will leave it for the weekend....just can't face it....

JDBfangirl · 26/09/2008 16:04

Keswick? Not too far away from me!

We have team building things somewhere in the lakes the week after. We will be being 'watched' as to who joins in etc.

Quite looking forward to it, don't mind things like that.

Got finished early today but have to work tonight. Weather is going to be good this weekend so think I shall take the boy on the train and do some shopping tomorrow.

2 girls were refused into a class this afternoon for being 5 mins late.

OP posts:
FairLadyRantALot · 26/09/2008 17:35

JDB, we only had a shortish day today...had a poster presentation of our groupwork this monring and then free to raom or go, lol...went into Student Union after finding out where the Gym is, as some people from teh course met there...and it was nice to talk to a few people I hadn't properly met yet.

Well... tbh JDB, unless someone has a very good reason to be late, I think it is the right way to go....I mena, we were given times etc...for everything and people sort of dawdled in latish and not even apologize and then those people that talk during a lecturere talking and then asking stupid questions about things that were literally just explained....I mean, generally I know there is no such thing as a stupid question, I do agree with that statement....however, in a way I don't....because when it is because people don't listen to what is said, well, then they are asking stupid questions...no patience for that kinda thing here...freshers week or not, lol!

Notalone · 26/09/2008 18:49

I tried to get on MN last night but it was down for essential maintenance. Sorry it took so long.

We got allocated our EBL - Enquiry Based Learning Groups yesterday and mine are all really lovely. Think I may have made a couple of mates already . There are ten of us and all but three are mature students. I have been lucky though as another mature student landed a group full of 18 years olds and there is no-one her own age at all. Today we had to go round local museums and look at them from the perspective of an occupational therapist perspective. After a few of us went to freshers freebie fair and then onto cafe nero for coffee and cake. I then went shopping with one of the other women from uni before going back to reality in the form of Tesco shopping and piles of washing at home

Lollipop - your task sounds fab. Any ideas what you are going to do yet?

Fairlady - how did the jab go? Are you feeling ok? I have a medical tomorrow and my jabs in the nest few weeks. Any more thoughts on going part time? Would you have to start again next year or could you just switch over? There is a heck of a lot of juggling so I can see why you want to think about this option.

JDB - team building in the lakes sounds like my idea of hell. Will it involve scary things like absailing etc? Saying that we have to do singing and elocution for ours - wtf????? Apparently the lateness etc is v common on nursing courses. Really not sure why but at my uni the nurses have to clock in and out to show attendance whereas we don't have to.

Notalone · 26/09/2008 18:54

Oh, we had our first assignment yesterday - a presentation on various conditions in our groups to be done on Tues. I did mine yesterday night but struggled, got v stressed and think what I have written is rubbish. Aaarrgghhh!

FairLadyRantALot · 26/09/2008 18:55

Notalone, I think , the way I understood it when explained at the Mandatory Selection Day, that there are certain times when you could switch over...i.e. a parttimer could switch over to fulltime and vice versa...I suppose, it depends on where exactlyt eh module is, and which course you can join to not loose out on anything...
so, it would not be a matter, I want to switch now, but there will be a timing issue....
I will see how it goes till X-mas and if I am finidng it all to much I will then talk to them and see when a good time would be....iykwim

Notalone · 27/09/2008 18:57

Well thats good Fairlady. I would probably think the uni will let you change over pretty much straight away as you are only just past the first week. Fingers crossed anyway! How many hours per week would part time be do you think?

nolongeraworriedmummy · 27/09/2008 19:03

Ive enrolled today, have freshers week next week and then lessons the week after bsc hons History.

Might have to miss lessons though as dd is starting new school that week,

FairLadyRantALot · 27/09/2008 20:15

nolonger...whereabout are you and what course are you doing?

Notalone, partime route student have been at University for 3 weeks before we started freshers.....

we shall see...will give fulltime a chance and then look at my options...they are pretty flexible

nolongeraworriedmummy · 27/09/2008 20:26

Manchester area, BSC (hins) History

nolongeraworriedmummy · 27/09/2008 20:32

hons not hins haha, when i enrolled today dd shouted oooh scary as my photo came on the big screen for my uni card

FairLadyRantALot · 27/09/2008 20:45

lol at your dd...my picture came out seriously shifty looking, lol...shifty eyes....couldn't look directly into the camera, lol...

LollipopViolet · 27/09/2008 20:50

We think we're gonna do a film about how people tend to mimmick animals i.e; travel in groups (herds), arrive at a place, drain it of all the resources they need, and move on. And we're going to do all that in a place we've never visited!

FairLadyRantALot · 27/09/2008 20:59

lollippop...something I noticwd in a lecture the other day was, that all the black people and the ones from saudiarabia all sat in a cluster....there seemed to have been no mixing....and tbh, I know I have not avoied anyone , but it seems to happen totally automatically....

LollipopViolet · 27/09/2008 21:19

See, case in point! Oh, I also have to document what I do and at what times for 2 days. Will do that tomorrow and Monday.

JDBfangirl · 28/09/2008 11:28

Yeah the attendance thing has been drummed into us. The two that got refused entry we'ren't terribly popular and it was an afternoon lesson, not as if you can claim the traffic was bad, which they have been doing in the mornings for known incidents on the roads. I sit relatively close to the girl who has the register so I'm ok for signing in

The team building stuff is ok apparently. I don't think it'll be anything as extreme as abseiling (I hope).

Have reflective essay due in on friday (Why I have chosen a career in nursing). It has to be handwritten but think I might type it and then hand write it as adding stuff to a handwritten essay is a pain!

Feeling quite anxious about all the work we have to do. Be a bit happier when essay is done. I've done a fair bit for it so hopefully I'll get most of that done when my son does for a nap.

OP posts:
FairLadyRantALot · 28/09/2008 11:39

can't imagine why they want a handwritten essay...

our first essay is only a assessment essay and won't be marked as such...it's more for them to see where we stand , as in can we write an essay, do we know the format and also how we use informatin, etc...

Notalone · 28/09/2008 13:02

I don't understand the handwritten essay thing either. I know as a nurse you have to handwrite notes sometimes so maybe this is something to do with it, but then if your handwriting is terrible who would be able to change it? Mine is shocking, spelling is ok but it is v scruffy looking. Its the way I write and I am too old to change it now! When is your team building in the Lakes JDB?

Fairlady - my photos is v bad too, I look gormless and a bit dim in it. We are stuck with the same photo for 3 years too . Lol at your DD too NLAWM! Good luck for Freshers week next week too. How are you feeling today?

Lollipop - where do you have to do your film? Should be fun though! Let us know how you get on. How many people are doing it with you?

LollipopViolet · 28/09/2008 15:24

4 more people in the group, 50-something of us going to lovely Keswick, next week! I'm all set for tomorrow's lectures now. Oh, started a topic for all of us who've joined gyms etc. Look at this topic here

JDBfangirl · 28/09/2008 16:17

Is in not the law that you must look bad in your id photo? My gym card is terrible, the guy couldn't even be bothered to straighten the camera

The handwritten essay is so they can assess any learning needs such as dyslexia that can be hidden with spellchecks etc. All the others are to be WP.

Our team building is at BendriggLodge . I imagine it will piss it down as is traition for these sort of things although it's been lovely here this weekend.

Have written 912 words. Will think of 88 to add as I write it out Only have two references though.

OP posts:
FairLadyRantALot · 28/09/2008 19:58

JDB, that sounds completely logical now you are saying it...
however, most people will probably do the same you did and might still not get found out about....although, don't know enough about dyslexia yet...so, no idea how someone dyslexic would perform if pre-writing on pc and spellchecking, etc. and then copying it out by hand....

Really only 2 references....the texts you used, have they have references within them, if so, you have to reference those aswell...not sure if you know that, and also in a 1000 word limit essay 50 words should make up the introduction and 50 the last part where you summon it up, so to say and conclude....

Just saying that as I didn't know that before I did that study skills course...
