College, Uni, OU or anything else. How's it going? The good the bad and the obscure.

on the 15th...we have study week till then...we have to download a learning package and prepare for placement...reading and prepare our pdp folder and stuff!

I am sure you will enjoy your placement!

Notalone · 05/01/2009 20:15

Oooh Fairlady - you lucky thing. Then again preparing can be a mare too. We were told not to do too much but I wanted to as I feel more confident having a bit of knowledge rather than going in blind. Have revised MOHO and read 2 books - one on forensics and one on surving placements. What is involved with the learning package?

How was everyone elses first days back?

FairLadyRantALot · 05/01/2009 21:28

actually no real idea about the learning package...but I have got a hunch that it is about legal issues and practice....I sort of remember something like that very vaguely!
My educator also said not to worry to much about preparation, as Handtherapy is such specialist area, but want to get my handanatomy, etc. up to scratch, and look at physiology and movement, etc...and then there is the Moho....which reminds me....there was an Amazon mix up. I had ordered the Moho for my friend, but was told by the seller that it wasn't in a good state and in unsellable condition, so got her a different book...anyhow, the book arrived after x-=mas, nothing wrong with it (had been given a refund , so, was surprised...but as book was fine, I kept it and paid for it. However, my friend got one by now, so, she doesn't need it...I'd be happy to send it for you....say for something like £8, to cover cost of book and p&p....let me know if you are interested If not, I will E-mail people from my course....it is not the newest version, but a recent enough one...think it's 2002....it is brandnew, but the backcover is slightly kinked....

Notalone · 05/01/2009 22:46

Yes - good idea. I guess there is nothing wrong with knowing too much before you start - far better than the other way around!

Thanks for the offer of the MOHO book. I have decided due to finances to only borrow from the libary for now - our library is usually quite good and you can order books so has served me well so far. Thanks though - much appreciated

Off to bed - wish me luck. Eeek!

FairLadyRantALot · 06/01/2009 09:34

Notalone, thinking off you I am sure you will be fine

LollipopViolet · 06/01/2009 09:50

I've got my new group and assignment and I WILL BE ORGANISED this time! I've got today off for some odd reason, but have a test tomorrow (theory and practical all about camera setup and operations). Then it kicks off proper next week. The new film has to be non fiction and each group member has to come up with an idea, research it and pitch it, then we make the best one. The idea is based around a "What's it like to be a..." sort of thing, so loads of scope.

FairLadyRantALot · 09/01/2009 11:44

notalone, how is your placement going?

Notalone · 09/01/2009 18:46

Hey!

Well am a week into placement and I love it. My educator is fab and I have a lot of influence over what I learn / who I shadow / where I visit. I have also been given my own client to work with whom I have met, get on well with and am literally brimming with ideas on how to help their situation. I have met people from all disciplines, been involved in ward rounds with consultants, attended handover meetings, done community visits and am gradually getting to know some of the patients. I am so happy I chose this course. Yay!! Fair lady - you are gonna love it too - I am sure of it! How has your revision for placement been going?

Lollipop - how did the test go?

FairLadyRantALot · 09/01/2009 20:42

so glad to hear it, notalone...I know you were a bit worried about it before...

As for revision for Placement....psssst...not done that much, yet...but I will...I am just a typical procrastinator, I suppose, and than all fo a sudden somehting kicks me into gear ...
read some of the Moho though...so, am slowly getting started !

Oh yes, Lollipop, how did your test go?

How is everyone else getting on?

JDB you back at Uni?

Notalone · 09/01/2009 22:19

You will Fairlady - especially when that date is looming! Remember Volition, habituation. performance capacity, environment. Aaarrggghhh!!! I have a few notes on this so if you want to ask anything I may be able to help

How is everyone else? xx

FairLadyRantALot · 09/01/2009 22:26

lol notalone...

LollipopViolet · 10/01/2009 10:50

I got 22/25 on my tests! 13/15 on the written and then lost a mark on the practical for not setting the monitor up quite right. So I'm happy

FairLadyRantALot · 10/01/2009 11:36

well done lollipop

tammybear · 11/01/2009 22:30

Ooo well done LV!

Notalone, glad to hear your placement is going well :D

Fairlady, not long til yours, good luck!!

I have been snowed under with my projects. Two due this week coming. Two week after. Manic and panic stations, as you probably can see from my FB statuses documenting my freaking out stages! Lol. I'm trying to write a report that's due in this week, but noone has an idea of what we're suppose to be doing. It's not comforting. Our tutors for this part of the module are incompetent tbh. I asked one of them about three times, and other people in my class, and other classes too kept asking what exactly this report is about, but they don't explain it well enough. I suspect they're not too sure either. The other tutor forgot to give his class their brief and they have a week to do a whole semesters work. It's terrible! So I'm working at it and hoping it'll be fine! But other than that, all is going well.

OsmosisBanana · 11/01/2009 22:37

Hello!

I am getting a bit freaked out by looming exams as DH has just got ill, which inevitably means DD will so no nursery for her so no revision for me! Arse!!!

Ah well, I got a 2:1 in one essay and a 1st in t'other, still waiting for last one back but feeling v pleased with myself in general.

FairLadyRantALot · 12/01/2009 13:03

well done Osmosis....those are fab results
Hope your dd isn't going to go ill....and that you can revise.

tammy...it's a nightmare when tutors don't really explain what they want, etc...

FairLadyRantALot · 12/01/2009 15:01

argh...well, have started on my Learning package and am now stuck...sigh...hope my friend calls me later and that she will be able to shed some light onto it, lol!

LollipopViolet · 12/01/2009 18:47

Bah humbug. Was supposed to get results on 26th Jan, now been pushed back to 2nd Feb Although do have a job interview for Alton Towers on Thursday!

FairLadyRantALot · 12/01/2009 20:52

Alton Towers...sounds ike fun!
Sor to hear about them rescheduling the resuts...we had the same thing happen with all assignments that we anded in before x-mas....you'd think they take the x-mas period into account when making their schedules, wouldn't you....

OsmosisBanana · 12/01/2009 22:21

It's a blumin' pain! We have to rush around getting stuff in when we're supposed to but it doesn't work the other way around! Gah!

Have hit a bit of a brick wall with revision today, because they don't count for much and the whole semester has been handled in su.ch a basic manner I feel a bit meh about it all.

Ah well, probably just that January feeling, have done DH's tax form so feel like a right goody 2 shoes!

FairLadyRantALot · 13/01/2009 12:09

I htink it s that January feeling...I have that, too....been procrastinating beautyfully , I really have....haven't ironed as much in ages, and all that....
I know it's naughty...but hohum...am sure once I am on Placement it sets me into a different mindset....(I hope)
tbh, whilst I love this course..I am starting to wonder if I am doing the right thing....I don't know ...just really doubting myself and my abilities....I suppose when I get those assignments back I will see where I am standing...but I am really worried about them...and not sure how well I will take to D's or worse sigh...

JDBfangirl · 14/01/2009 21:29

Hi Guys,

See you are all stressed! I was so busy over xmas as had essay to hand in first day back and was working lots.

We've been back a week (unlike every one else who is just back this week Its been a bit....boring since we got back. Evidence based practice and health profile and more lessons on how to pull resources of the web, something I'm very good at and we've already had a lecture on it so was not impressed!

Lots going on right now. Helping SIL move house, tonight am ebaying her crap. Tomorrow afternoon am babysitting her 3mo daughter while she tries to amalgamate her house into PIL's.

How's everyone else getting on, despite the stress?
