College, Uni, OU or anything else. How's it going? The good the bad and the obscure.

That sounds promising!

Yes, last shift of seven day stint. My mate came to my ward after breakfast to tell me I'd left my lights on in my car. She couldn't get over how big and busy it was. She should have seen it a few hours later when the next ward got closed cos of d&v. It. was. chaos!

that does sound very busy...yikes....

Went in to see teh Tutor about the leaflet and basically I have been overthinking and over complicating it....so, that is a relief....because it will easier doing it now...i.e. won't really need to put much info about conditions in it, etc...it really is more about the understanding of moving and handling....and as for the reflective essay, got lots of books for the whole backing it all up thingy....so, decided I will get the leaflet out of the way first, as quickly as possible and than will do teh Essay....

everyone else must be to busy to come on here, eh....

XmasLollipopViolet · 04/12/2008 17:23

Yay am doing the reference list for one essay, 1000 words exactly lol! Just got the other one to do, and some editing on my video. Oh, and am happy again Tutor spoke to me and said I am on the right course and over his dead body was I leaving lol. He'd also asked a 3rd year, who's been there 6 in total (due to all sorts of things) to talk to me and cheer me up

aww that is positive lollipop

XmasLollipopViolet · 05/12/2008 15:26

Bum.

Have to reshoot my sequence and that means re-doing all the paperwork as well as my other essay.

What is that mantra you mums have? This too shall pass? mumbles that as she does paperwork

ChristmasFairySantAsSLut · 05/12/2008 16:09

oh no....lollipop...how frsutrating

Well...not been feeling great, but working on my leaflet right now...and slowly but surely getting there...
I have decided on a wheelchair transfer in the end....

I think I will pretend I am eitehr a ehabilitatio n centre/clinic or a chrity that would have somehting to do with wheelchair users....must think of an idea of an organization...any nifty ideas?

XmasLollipopViolet · 05/12/2008 16:40

Children's charity advising parents who've recently aquired wheelchairs for their children?

ChristmasFairySantAsSLut · 05/12/2008 17:54

Ooops, should have said, it will be aimed at an adult/adolescent wheelchair user....!

JDBfangirl · 05/12/2008 20:10

Lollipop, Always the worst thing about filming...the paperwork. I still have the main paperwork folder from my final major which was a radio drama. I hated the transcrbing and logging on documentary though.

And the phase I was told by a fellow mother when DS was a newborn was "Just remember...it's all just a phase...even the good stuff"

So do you have any ideas for the leaflet right now?

OP posts:
ChristmasFairySantAsSLut · 06/12/2008 10:54

well, I decided to call the Organization "The Regional Spinal Injury Rehabilitation Centre" and put a picture of a building underneath (on the front page....)...afterall, it realy doesn't matter what it is called....as long as it is a suitable name within the leaflat....i.e. makes sense to the moving handling task I am describing, etc....!
I have 4 pics in it which shows a person transferring from wheelchair to chair, and next to those is an explanation of what to do, than I have some pictures showing a transfer using a slideboard for help, and a few words about this and I also have a picture of a person using a leg lifter...again wiht some words about that.
(They want us to not just show we understand the moving/handling task but also which equipment might also be useful)
That is as far as I have gotten...not sure if I should put info on about the different languages this leaflat might be available in and about it being available in braille (sp?) and larger font....because I htink that would complicate the matter, lol....if I had a leaflat to hand that did say that I would do it...but otherwise it would add work that isn't really marked on....lol...iykwim....

Anyway, am logging off now and getting myself dressed and than will do a quick tidy up blitz and later I will take the Kids to a Softplay. I will take my books with me, so, I can see what I can find in them useful to my Essay....so, won't feel like I "wasted" the afternoon.....

Notalone · 06/12/2008 19:02

Hey everyone! And welcome Chocolate. There are quite a few of us now hey?!

Did you have a nice birthday Lollipop?

Am very confused with the Xmas names but are you Christmasfairysant Fairlady? The leaflet sounds great btw! Have you had sessions on how to use interventions yet? And how do we get to practise this later lol. We had one for dressing aids and I could not master the knicker hook at all lol

How are you all getting on? A couple of weeks to go and we will all have survived our first semester. Yay!!

I have to go for breakaway training before I am allowed to go on my placement. It was scheduled for the 16th but the lecturer advised if possible I should change it as there are service users coming in that day and she thinks it will be useful to be there. It turns out the woman who stormed out during the presentation prep then refused to turn up is going to the same placement as me. She "kindly" advised me to ensure I knew where my pens were when I go "just in case" a patient decides to use it as weapon.

Notalone · 06/12/2008 19:02

oooh - Xmas emoticons

Notalonestarofbethlehem · 06/12/2008 19:05

My new Xmas name

JDBfangirl · 06/12/2008 21:29

Hi Notalone

at pens as weapons. We've been told not to keep scissors in top pockets or have anything round our necks...but pens???? I use my pen contantly...kinda need it nearby!

Am going to have to think of festive name, shall have to have a think!

OP posts:
ChristmasFairySantAsSLut · 07/12/2008 22:33

indeed I am FairLady...don't be put off by my slutty x-mas name....lol....

Hm, not sure about the pen thing...but I suppose it could be used as a weapon...I mean, in our Uniform code it states we can only use elatic bands/bobbles and such to remove our hair from our face....because hairclasp etc...could be used as weapons...but I suppose it would depend on the area you work in....

Well, leaflet is finished...woopie....just need to write my reference list for that...but that isn't all that long....
I think it looks o.k. but time/and mark will tell....
Struggling to get to grips with teh Essay though....it just isn't coming...sigh..but will have to...as only really have tomorrow and tuesday to write it...yikes...

And yes, notalone, we did our Practice prep lessons...i.e. adl-domestic as well as personal, handling and moving and communicationskills...

Anyways....can't think....and must go to bed, lol....

Hope you are all well....anyone got any assignments to do/hand in before x-mas?

tammybear · 08/12/2008 14:16

Hi ChocolateMummy, glad to hear you're enjoying your course so far

LV, sorry to hear you're not enjoying it so much now But glad to hear you're feeling better about it now. I have moments like that too, but am sticking it through, and my tutors have been praising me, so it's good to know I'm doing well. And happy belated birthday!

JDB, so glad to hear your placement is going well, and you survived!

FairLady, sounds like you know what you're doing

Anyway, I've been away for the weekend. Got back bout an hour ago. Thought I'd do a quick skim read to catch up.

Think my project that I had given back is due in again tomorrow, but our tutor was away last week so noone's sure. Urgh. But other than that, it's all good at the moment. I think. Got my presentation on Weds which I'm not looking forward to it, but fingers crossed it'll all go well.

Hope everyone's good. Shall catch up properly when I'm not rushing to get ready to go get DD! Lol. xx

XmasLollipopViolet · 10/12/2008 17:49

Hahaha! I've just got to do a presentation on my sequence tomorrow, then I am work free! Xmas party tomorrow night, then off!

tammybearinggifts · 10/12/2008 19:53

Oooo good luck LV and have fun at the Xmas party!

I've just done something very stupid and banging my head against the desk. I was bored on FB and was searching for random people. For some bizarre reason decided to search my ex. But somehow sent him a request to join which although he has an account, they still did! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Lol. Only wanted to be nosey! Hoping FB lied and haven't sent him one.

But anyway, my presentation went okay I guess. Tried to make eye contact as much as possible, and hardly looked at my cards I had. But then I worried I was looking at the projection too much so not sure. But as long as I've passed, it's all good! Lol.

ChristmasFairySantAsSLut · 10/12/2008 19:53

Good luck lollipop!

Well, just finishing things off on my assignments and print them out and the assignment sheets, etc....and than hand them in and than I will not think anymore of them, until I get the grades....lol...

tammybearinggifts · 10/12/2008 19:57

Okay I'm wrong. It actually sent him a fucking friends request... I want to die... Urgh why me!!!

tammybearinggifts · 10/12/2008 20:00

Oops excuse my language lol. Pretty angry with FB at the moment.

JDBfangirl · 10/12/2008 20:30

Tammy..... oops!

So, so tired this evening. Ward was absolutely mental, short staffed and loads going on. Last day with mentor today but mananged to get her to sign of competencies so I don't need to worry about that for tomorrow and friday, just to get them countersigned.

Glad everyone is getting on well. Xmas holiday is going to be very welcome!

OP posts:
ChristmasFairySantAsSLut · 10/12/2008 22:50

oh dear tammy....but well done at getting through the presentation.

jdb...short staffed wards....one of the many main reasons I don't want to return into nursing..... although....I have been that stressed the past couple of days....I have at times pondered if I should just throw in the towel and go for the "easy" option...lol....

anyway, sitting here with a well deserved glass of wine...blinking printer was messing about, which meant that things took longer then they should have...sigh....my leaflat has some minor inkstains....but well...it was the best I could do...sigh

ChristmasFairySantAsSLut · 11/12/2008 23:20

Notalone...recently purchised this Book and it is brilliant, and apparnetly a commonly used model in ot..so, you might want to get it....there are some "cheap ones" on amazon, as seen on the linnk...so...really grab one....
I just got a copy as a X-mas present for a fellow student/friend....because it is such a bargain...and whilst I grabbed the best bargain, there are more equally good ones there...
it is a really easy to read book...

Notalonestarofbethlehem · 13/12/2008 11:47

Christmasfairy - that is the exact book I got out the library and am reading as we speak! You must have psychic powers lol. Maybe you should forget the OT and get a crystal ball instead lol!!! I have been told they use MOHO exclusively at my placement so I am trying to read this one, one on surviving my placement (written by the lecturer who will be visiting me on placement I subsequently found out after I borrowed it from the library), another on forensic psychiatry and 2 on taking groups. Think I may have bitten off more than I can chew!!!
Got my first assignment back last week and got 68% which is the equivelent of a 2:1. I am so pleased!!! Another girl got 82% - the equivelent of a first. I met another bloke on another group who also got 68% and despite knowing I got the same mark he started ranting on about how he was really unhappy with it and how he expected so much better . We got our groupwork presentation mark back though and got the lowest out of all the groups so I am not expecting much when I get my essay based on the presentation back. Apparently I will get the results next week. How are you getting on ChristmasFairy? Have you hasd your model marked?

Tammy - lol and eeek for ya!!! Has he accepted?!

JDB - sounds like you coped really well with the busy ward. How do you feel your placement has gone overall?

Going out tonight with some of the girls from uni - first time I have been out in ages - and it is raining and threatening to flood. Bloody Typical!
