College, Uni, OU or anything else. How's it going? The good the bad and the obscure.

oh lollipop...I know it isn't really funny...but I did giggle at that bird daring to poop on your lovely hoody...how dare it!
BTW, what did you shoot? A small clip, a documentary maybe?

Notalone...those people do sound selfish....I mean, like you say you all have essays to do....but if this presentation is marked then it is equally important!
Actually asked about marked grooup work yesterday on my pdp, and there isn't anything planned, yet...but of course that means nothing....however, if we ever do marked groupwork it will always have a individually marked component and the 2 marks will be put together to give you the individual mark! So, not so bad!
Oh and lolling at you admiring my artsy crafty skills...because...well..I really am not good at it....lol...but thank you anyway!...The mark on this will tell....and this is the part of the module that will give me a fail or pass for this module...yikes...
Your placement sounds good...and medium secure, I would think , means that the people are disturbed and can be a danger but most of te time won't be....but might be wrong on that!
Oh had Breakaway Training today...that was good fun actually and re-enforced a lot of the techniques I learned at teamteach, which is the safety training that my employer uses!

LollipopViolet · 27/11/2008 18:57

I was shooting a continuity sequence, that will be added to the sequences of the other group members when they've been shot.

Right now though, I'm doing my essays. Just a little bit of work you understand, but needs doing.

FairLadyRantALot · 28/11/2008 18:45

I just realised, I never said, lol...but it isn't a mental health placement at all that I am going on (couldn't find much on the hospital, only knew about it having mental health departments, so assumed...), it's hand therapy, which will be very interesting, "problem" is, it was a placement I would have preferred doing in my 3. year, because it is somehting I have considered already that I might want to specialise in....but hohum...it will still be a great experience and lots of hands on stuff...

Well, had to hand in our exhibitionpiece yesterday and thank god it survived the trip mostly in one piece, only minor breakage...was received by fellow students very positively, which hopefully means tutors will also like it, lol!
Today we had, in our small groups, to tallk about our pieces and it was quite emotional for us all, not just when talking about our piece, but also when listening to other people's experiences....but it was a fantastic experience and worth all the stress...now, I "just" have to write that reflective essay about it and after we handed those in we will eventually get our marks....sigh...

Lollipop good luck with your essays!

Notalone, have you found out more about your Placement?

Essays are going OK, need to blitz them today though so I can use TurnItIn to submit online, then just hand one in on 5th Dec and one on 9th Dec.

FairLadyRantALot · 30/11/2008 11:03

good on you!
Apparently they are working on getting an online essay/assignment submitting going...which will be good....

chocolatemummy · 30/11/2008 11:09

morning, new to this thread, I am first year student nurse and have one child who just turned 5 this month.

FairLadyRantALot · 30/11/2008 11:16

wow, studying with a 5 month old baby...you are brave....how is it going for you so far? What kind of nursing you doing, adult, mental health, learning disabilities or paediatric?

chocolatemummy · 30/11/2008 11:43

5 YEARS lol, I have been using mumsnet intermittently since I was pregnant! I am doing mental health nursing and I am really enoying it, just can't help thinking that I chose possibly the worst time in my life time to give up work and become a full time student lol-economically

FairLadyRantALot · 30/11/2008 12:39

dur...would help if I read the post properly...wouldn't it, lol....

I know what you mean with chosing the worst time economically...I have been thinking it would be better to go t work, financially right now...but on the otehr hand, I have been a SAHM for most of the last 12 1/2 years, so, in a way we aren't missing "my wages".
Mental Health nursing...I bet that is really interesting. I did General nursing many many moons ago....and when I trained I had a stint in psychiatry , and really enjoyed it!

JDBfangirl · 30/11/2008 23:11

4 shifts into my 7 day stint. Got back about 10pm and should get myself to bed soon as I'm on a 7-3 tomorrow.

Hello chocolate mummy How are you finding MH??

Fairlady - I loved breakaway training too! Not sure if I'd remember any ofit though

ChristmasFairyRantALot · 01/12/2008 10:50

lol...that is the problem jdb...however, having done Teamteach in the summer, through the company I work for, there were many similar moves...and I still remembered them, which surprised me, lol!

Oh always used to hate the going from late to early the next day....tbh...shifts mess your bodyclock up so much....one of the reasons for me NOT to return to nursing, lol...

LollipopViolet · 01/12/2008 14:38

I'm not enjoying my course much now. I'm not sure it's what I want to do. I'd quite like to teach, or work with kids with SN in some way (partly cos of my own sight issues) but if I want to teach primary, I still need a degree....errrgh.

ChristmasFairySantAsSLut · 01/12/2008 16:03

aww lollipop....could you change the course still?
Also, if you really like to work with children with sn....how about doing Early Childhood studies or something along those lines?

JDBfangirl · 01/12/2008 18:04

LV.

Does your uni have a support unit or the like you can talk to? Might help sort out what you do and don't want to do if you had some one neutral to talk to.

I got to go to theatre today . There was a lot of time where I couldn't see anything due to the "deepness" of what they were doing but it was facinating to see what everyone else was doing.

2 shifts left this week. It was tough getting up this morning esp when I opened door to see a dusting of snow. On a late tomorrow thankfully

OP posts:
ChristmasFairySantAsSLut · 01/12/2008 19:28

oh jdb theatre is seriously interesting isn't it....had a neuro-anaesthesiology(sp?)placement as a nursing student and that was fascinating and also enabled me watching surgeries in other departments, including a female to male sex change where they constructed the penis, and a heart surgery ...
oh, and the changes from early to ate are definitely easier, aren't they!

Well, still no clearer about the leaflat, sigh...and as for the reflective essay....where do I even start....my brain is gone to complete mush it seems, sigh...

XmasLollipopViolet · 01/12/2008 21:29

I've done 700 words or so of one of my essays (1000 word one!) YAY! Still unsure about my course though

ChristmasFairySantAsSLut · 01/12/2008 21:37

awww...

why did you choose this course? What were your expectations?

JDBfangirl · 01/12/2008 22:04

It was interesting butI'm not sure I'd want to work there full time!

Do your uni provide specimens of relective essays? I think I've seen a couple of nursing ones somewhere.

OP posts:
ChristmasFairySantAsSLut · 01/12/2008 22:31

no...don't think so...what makes it harder is that is still so confusing....because we are only meant to reflect on the process of creating the exhibition piece...which in itself made you reflect on your life....iykwim...
so, I suppose what they want is, a reflective model used in different ways///different heading...possibly how you got the idea...the process you went through, the actualy creating of the piece...the writing of the reflective log and the experience of that, how yu decided what to put in....and all that has to be rflective aswell as using literature to back your "arguments" up....sigh...

XmasLollipopViolet · 02/12/2008 08:04

I chose it because I thought I wanted to work in the TV industry. Now I think I'd like to make my own films as a hobby but want a degree that could offer job security.

On a happy note, it's my birthday Still have to write essays though.

ChristmasFairySantAsSLut · 02/12/2008 11:55

Lollipop....I think you should try if you could still change your course....
tbh, I think you should consider becoming an OT ...you see it helps if you are the creative kind of person, you would like to work with SN children....well...OT would be perfect, you see

JDBfangirl · 02/12/2008 22:25

Happy Birthday Lollipop!

My formative essay was reflective and I think as long as you identify which model you use and provide references, you can't go wrong. If you thought it would help, I'd be happy to dig out some of the examples we have been shown for nursing.

My placement was a bit dull tonight. Got home early though. One patient asked me if my mother minded me being out so late I had to break it to her that my HUSBAND quite likes the p&q! Last shift of my seven days in a row tomorrow...can't wait!!! Only three more after that and I've finished my placement. It's gone so quickly.

OP posts:
ChristmasFairySantAsSLut · 02/12/2008 23:24

wow jdb, that was a short placement then...wasn't it....and lol at that patients comment...

and pleae if you wouldn't mind giving me your examples....everything will help right now....

I can not get my head around my assignments right now and am freaking out completely...what with a week to go to hand them in...e-mailed my tutor about the reflective essay...and nothing so far back...sigh...just need to know if I am on the right track...and am hoping she can tell me....

As for that leaflt....am confusing myself more and more....sigh! Yet again.....

JDBfangirl · 03/12/2008 20:20

Ok my uni has hidden all the stuff that was on blackboard but this has a few good essays on

OP posts:
ChristmasFairySantAsSLut · 03/12/2008 20:48

Thank you for sharing that link....!

Well....had some feedback on my reflective Essay ...I e-mailed the tutor with the general things I will be exploring and she has given her thumbs up...so, that helps...

tomorrow I am driving up to Uni and I will talk to my Tutor about the Leaflet and will go to the library to dig some books out

Anyway, JDB it was your last shift of that long stint, wasn't it?

Notalone, how are you doing? Found out more about your Placement?

How is everyone else doing?
