i am using Bambino mio with my current baby charge, she is now 6m and we started at 9wks and have saved a tonne by buying on eBay, i have for the cost of 3 months dispies bought enough till she is dry and am making towelling wipes (cotton wool @ present).

I understand we are using prefolds - yes?

What are pockets?

Am looking to try Fluffles as people rave about them.

I love cloth and remember kite folding terries as a child.

Recently we went away and i took a tub of vanish and hand washed once a day so only actually used 6 nappies.

She has NR with dispies, leaks and tbh honks.

How often do you change? she isn't a huge wetter and often 3 a day works, we are satill using size1 cloth to medium wraps.

Hi, thought I joined in too. 39 wks tomorrow, tired of it, especially cos I am waiting for baby so I can have excuse of buying more nappies (feels I'm getting addicted, hope the enthusiasm doesn't wear off when I use them!) - have a few types now all washed and ready to be used!!!
Didn't really get bad comments about my decision of using cloth, but got "the look" that said "you're barking mad" and swift change of conversation.

With DS1 I got some reusables because of nappy rash! though he (and me) didn't like the prefolds because of the bulk (he was a chubby 18mo by then and took them off himself) the NR would disappear almost instantly with reusables, so I wished I discovered them before!!

LackaDAISYcal · 26/08/2008 16:47

lou, I'm not set up to sell (flame, nappyzone.......do you need advisors in the North/Yorkshire? ), but I have enough different types of nappy and wrap to give you an idea of what's out there if we get a yorkshire nappy meet up organised .

If I were you though and considering he is so little at the minute, I would stick with something like Nature Babies Diddy Diapers or Easy Peasy Bimbles with XS Motherease Rikki wraps, as anything else will look huge and bulky on a teeny tiny baby. I think those are both fron about 6lbs, but with nappy nippas they should fasten down smaller

Flame, did you ever get your preemie baby lending service off the ground? (I hadn't twigged you were BlueberryBeret either)

I wouldn't without a wrap knickers.

Essie3 · 26/08/2008 17:15

AnnVan - enthusiasm hasn't worn off for me! I bought my nappies before DS was born too!

knickers. I got some cheap flannels in Chiltern Mills and use them as reuseable wipes

BigBadMousey · 26/08/2008 21:10

You could also cut up an old cot sheet - if you use pinking shears then there is no need to hem them

BigBadMousey · 26/08/2008 21:19

matnanplus

Yes they are prefolds

Pockets are effectively a wrap which is fleece lined. There is an opening between the wrap material (PUL) and the fleece into which you can stuff an absorbant 'insert'. The ytend to be very slim fitting, easy to put on and quick drying (unless you use a hemp insert) but they are more prone to leaks than two-part nappies. If you can find one that suits your DCs shape then you're away - they are very good (bit expensive though). Examples include bumgenius, fuzzi bunz, mommy's touch, pocket bots....

Fluffles are discontinued so to buy new get your skates on and head to ebay. Thet are lovely but a bit on the bulky side - best for young babies IMO - the size 2 is huge on a newborn (it can be used as a birth to potty).

DD2 is 2.4 and goes through 4 a day
DS is 13wo and goes through about 6 a day (I think)

AnnVan · 27/08/2008 07:39

Sunflower - me too I'm 39+4! Also hoping enthusiasm for the nappies doesn't disappear. I'm fairly sure that it wont though.

I nearly got fluffles, but opted for the Teddies in the end because they're not as bulky, and they come in pretty colours as well as white. So Matnanplus if you have trouble getting hold of fluffles, you could just get some white Bambinex Teddies? They're basically the same thing just with a slightly shorter pile AFAIK. (expert ladies do correct me if I'm wrong)

Right actually have some energy today so I'm going to start the day by prewashing my nappies.

lollipopmother · 27/08/2008 07:43

Primark do four face flannels for £1.50, they're the cheapest I've found so far for my reusable wipes collection, and they do loads of different colours so there's a good choice if you are horribly anal like me want to colour co-ordinate.

isaidno · 27/08/2008 08:03

I'm a nappy addict too. My dd is 10 weeks and I have all sorts!
I like bamboozles, ellas house, baby beehinds best. Got a couple of bambibex teddies and they're nice too. And I have some slinki minkis and pocket bots for when dd wears a frock and you can see her bum!

I made fleece liners from an old blanket, and also made wipes from an old towel which I got my mum to hem and back with more old fleece blanket.

turtle23 · 27/08/2008 08:09

IKEA do 10 flannels for £1. Can I but in and ask a question? I had shaped nappies for DS til he was 16ish weeks. His little (ahem) legs seemed to be very sore as to get them tight enough round the tum they were too tight round the legs. I switched to prefolds but just cannot seem to get on with them and have been using disposables for weeks now. Are prefolds any good? Wat shold I do? My husband is loathye for me to spend any more as have convinced him first lot would last 9 months (oops) and second forever...

turtle23 · 27/08/2008 08:10

Queenbebe · 27/08/2008 09:03

Am I the only one using nappy pins? Everyone I come across with DC seem to use nappy nippers, well nearly. I just don't seem to be able to get on with them, but perhaps I have'nt got the knack. The point is, the type of nappy fold I favour, like the kite or Jo fold needs to be "pinned" firmly each side, particularly on an older DC, and that's near impossible to do with a nipper imo. A friend said she tried using two nippers, but that sounded very awkward to do. Any thoughts? Whilst on the subject of nappy pins, does anyone know where you can buy larger size nappy pins? Boots used to do what they called "night time" nappy pins which were much larger than normal for use with their toddler size nappies, but they don't sell them any more.

BigBadMousey · 27/08/2008 09:09

Turtle - what shaped nappies were you using? Was it the nappy or the wrap that made him sore? If it was the wrap a switch to the airflow wrap would have been a good move because you can adjust the waist and legs independantly.

Prefolds are OK but a bit hit and miss - most people find they are no good once their DC gets mobile.

Fluffles (on offer at babykind atm) are a bit different to teddies, lollipop softees and the little lamb microfibre nappies in that they are fleece lined and have a pocket you can stuff - they and the lollipop softee are the bulkiest of the microfibre nappies. www.babykind.co.uk/flufflesorder.htm. I recommend nippa fit as the poppers are harder to find in amongst the thick pile and the nippas have lots to grab.

AnnVan · 27/08/2008 09:45

Hmm, now I'm seriously wandering if I should get a couple of Fluffles, possibly for use as night nappies. I do rather like them. Problem is, should I really be spending more money on nappies? I'm not sure DP would be entirely pleased. Oh dear, but it's an almost irresistible compulsion. gah! If only Tots Bots weren't discontinuing them.

sunflower78 · 27/08/2008 10:03

AnnVan - there are loads on ebay atm too, so keep an eye there (though sometimes it looks as they go for as much as buying them new, maybe because they are being discontinued)
