Wow this thread moved fast!!

Well, I have no intention of believing bad stuff people have said about cloth
1 because none of these people have used cloth
2 some of them don't even have kids

I'm convinced that having a baby is hard work anyway, and using cloth won't add that much to the total!

But people have said: Ooh they'll be fermenting and stinking your house out - what do they think disposables do until they get collected by the bin men??

Um also: you'll have to boil wash them! - seeing as some of my nappies are microfibre theywould melt if I tried this.

Oh and then there's but you could stick a pin in your baby! - Uh pins no longer necessary> (I do wander why mothercare still stocks them but doesn't stock nippas??)

Anyway, my stash consists of some Bambinex Teddies and Bambinex bamboos with Airflow wraps. Oh, someone mentioned a nappy drying rack? Where could I get one, as I have no tumble dryer, and crap summer is ending?

Hi Big Bad - only have one Sandy's! I ordered more but they sent the wrap with a note saying 2 week wait! Wish they had mentioned on web site.... Am using her old Sandy's and believe it or not, DS's size one Bum Genius!

Will send 'package'soon. Have to get official word etc.

Cloth Nappy tree is also a great place to buy used nappies.

Thanks Displacement, I've got all the info, just not always totally happy with the end result of the folds, and uncertain of how bulky they look. Just fancy some RL nappy support.
Any South Yorkshire real nappy users?

xx

Hi all

Just been reading a few of your posts on this thread, I currently have 3 babies in washables... and have done for 15 months (DS is 4 but has autism so prob wont potty train for a while yet!)

Its interesting to read that others have come across critcism for their choice, i have practially been accused of harming my children... that they will suffer because of my choice! i blame the disposible marketing... we get more nappy rash which doesnt clear when we have used disposibles for any length of time

I use good old fashioned terry squares, the cheapest and most versitile, but have to confess to using 3 disposibles at night (only started that recently because it meant i could go for slightly longer between washes)

I am a bit of a reusable evangelist! but so many people are brainwashed by the advertising for disposible nappies which are the biggest rip off ever!

Its all about money Knickers... disposibles are manufactured by big companies... i think pampers are Proctor and Gamble,

AnnVan · 26/08/2008 12:08

Mmm, wander the same myself, especially considering how big environmentalism is,and how they try and encourage it in every other aspect of peoples' lives, yet when it comes to cloth nappies - notheing. I think this is the reason I get so much criticism for the cloth nappies - people assume stuff about them, but there's a lot of ignorance about them. Some people assume that they cause nappy rash - if that's the case why haven't sudocrem et al gone out of business in the 20 years since disposables came to the fore??

I will be using disps for the first few days, but hopefully will be transferring to cloth as soon as meconium has passed on through. I'm a little nervouse that I'll not end up doing it. But then, I've been determined to do it from the start so I think I'll be ok. (hopefully)

Is fine onmy laptop and pc thoughmumsnet is overlapping

Essie3 · 26/08/2008 13:06

Hello all, may I join in?
Totally addicted to cloth nappies, but no idea why it's such an addictive topic!! Bizarre.

I'm currently using Modern Baby old style nappies (love them), and I'm about to switch to the Pop-ins. (Hi Octo, bought yours!) So far found the trial nappy to be very good. And there's a discount... I think the company suffers from not getting enough reviews etc. Daisy, would you set one up on Mumsnet in the reviews section? I've not been using them long enough yet.

Used nasties disposables all weekend as I was staying with my brother (DS is 10 weeks, first time away!) but never again! Apart from feeling guilty, I just don't see that it's more convenient.
Plus, DS did a huge explosive breastfed poo in the restaurant at Chatsworth, which was dripping onto the floor. We weren't eating, just standing in the restaurant. Those poor diners...mind you, it was the expensive restaurant which we couldn't afford to eat at...so I kind of feel an evil satisfaction. The point is that dispos don't hold leaks any better than washables. In fact, I've had fewer leaks with my washables.

Essie3 · 26/08/2008 13:07

Sorry, btw - all roads lead to poo in our house at the moment.

mum2oneloudbaby · 26/08/2008 13:20

Does anyone else think that Disposables look awful. Like a bit of rubbish on a baby. Might as well tape a carrier bag to its bottom. They look especially bad when they're full, as they go all saggy. DP's aunt waits till her DS's nappy gets totally saturated before she changes him, and he smells disgusting. Every time he toddles past me I have to hold my breath!
