...get in the way of you when you are in the supermarket dragging around a pram, trolley and fiddly child and then they sneer down at you with their basket full of organic lettuce, baguettes and mini-tampons while your trolley is loaded with nappies, a giant pot of Sudocrem and enough chocolate bars to re-sink the Titanic.

You then have to manoever around them while they continue said sneering.

God you can tell what sort of evening I have had, can't you? And I am embarrassed to admit that I used to be one of those women. I apologise to all you mums out there unreservedly.

Now for chocolate bars and MN......

And I could tell it wouldn't be long
Till he was with me, yeah me, singin'

i am singing at top of my voice and no clue why.but i like this song-not britney version.

expatinscotland · 22/08/2008 22:52

i remember listening to the Joan Jett cover and my mother saying, 'Oh, that's a remake. They used to play that song when I was in high school.'

and then finding out she was right.

Oooh look! Mel C is having a baby! She won't be dissing my shopping habits anymore, in her head/in my head.

Take a chill pill everyone.

expatinscotland · 22/08/2008 22:55

i'm 37!

Aitch · 22/08/2008 22:56

oh, x-posted with Nina's flounce... for goodness sakes. your entire OP was a sneer, clearly, and not about women who are infertile (i never said that) but about women who you perceive to be looking at you funny and buying self-indulgent foodstuffs.

that's fine, that's cool, that doesn't make you a wicked person or someone who should waste her time flouncing, seriously. it just makes you someone who One Person on an internet forum had a minor disagreement with... you have to try to keep things in perspective, really.

olympicsnotfederer · 22/08/2008 22:57

lol mrsSprat

yeh, I like Mel C, she is very sweet

I wanna be her friend

QueenyEisGotTheBall · 22/08/2008 22:58

woah!! i clicked on thinking it was going to be a nice funny lighthearted (possibly with an undertone of a real situation) chat about the funny differences between those without DCs and those with little did i know that it would be a bit of a hair-pulling match between a few of you i think the fact that some people who dont have kids might want them and may be jealous is irrelevant. the fact that some people with kids might be jealous of the freedom of others is irrelevant should we start a thread defining the term 'light-hearted'?? maybe a few could do with a refresher on the lighter somewhat more fun side of life/ MN
nina FWIW i often feel like this but im not entirely sure whether its my ishoos and poor self confidence or whether they are actually sneering at me i do think 'just you wait and see' when i get the sneery looks and i remember how i used to feel when i was young free and living a life without baby wipes in my bag and snot on my shoulder just smile sweetly and look at your children fondly as it makes no difference whether they are sneering or looking on enviously, you have beautiful DCs and are organised enough to take them shopping with you alone (something i struggle with often)
xx ei xx

Aitch · 22/08/2008 22:59

i was agreeing with you, oops. the vast majority of women do have kids, afaia, so i presume they were open to the idea. and i did live in London for a few years, pre-children... still didn't notice the sneering women. however, desperate, wild-eyed women hunting down men like prey... oh yes.

what's this about joan jett? i actually wanted to be her for a while.

i wanted to get some self-indulgent foodstuffs today.

drove all the way out to the very posh Tesco in Greenock . had to go the shopping centre first, however, and by the time i got to Tesco the girls were all narky and whingy.

i wound up just chucking the stuff on the list in the trolley, including some TenaLady pants for my hospital bag, and trying to get out of there as soon as possible.

the most self-indulgent i got was a bottle of sparkling water from M&S that i bought in disappointment that they didn't have the Sicilian wine i was going to get for my mum to take back to my cousin .

kids just fuck it all up.

expatinscotland · 22/08/2008 23:00

that Chinese gymnast who won the gold medal IS about 12!

fryalot · 22/08/2008 23:01

yeah, but she's not allowed to be 12, so she's 16.

Whatever her birth certificate says

Aitch · 22/08/2008 23:02

you are good at your hospital bag, expat...

M&S offer's on this weekend, my sil went and they'd run out of side dishes (you know, veggies etc) so she was given a fiver off by way of an apology. paid a fiver for wine, moussakka and dessert and then went and spent 99p on two little gems from the veg shop.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 22/08/2008 23:02

There's no such thing as a "posh Tesco" [snob]

MintChocAddict · 22/08/2008 23:03

There's a posh shop in Greenock Expat????

expatinscotland · 22/08/2008 23:04

then i made the mistake of remarking, after seeing the newspaper headline, 'That girl cheated and the British girl got robbed of her medal' so that DD1 spent the entire trip repeating, 'The gymcast cheated Beth 'Tweedle' out of a medal'.

apparently, she's 14, not 16. nah? you don't say?

olympicsnotfederer · 22/08/2008 23:05

don't we have a 14 yr old on the GB team ?

expatinscotland · 22/08/2008 23:05

I didn't even get to look at the specials in M&S.
