VOTE what age you consider old enough for ear piercing?

Sorry if this has been done to dead but most links talks about babies. I agree with most of them that it's cruel. Personally (I think) I feel if a child is older enough to understand it hurts and older enough to look after their own ear fine. I would say that was about 6-7 (depends on the child).
Just intrested in people's view as my mother and father don't like piercings at all so I grew up with a very strong view on piercings. But then started seeing 7-8 with ears pierced at dd school, then dd 7 asking for hers to be done made me really think about it. But their is still a small part of my the programming from childhood their going not till she's 16-18.

I was 6 when I had mine done. And then a second set of holes at 13. No regrets at all. I probably wouldn't be brave enough now to get any more!

MrsSylar · 22/07/2008 09:55

I think once they go to high school it's probably ok, though I think I would like dd to wait till she is about 13.

I had my ears pierced when I was 11 and I think it was too young

MummyDoIt · 22/07/2008 09:57

Personally, I wouldn't agree till secondary school age. At least 11 but probably older (I had to wait till I was 14 and think that was a good age). I think piercings are quite an adult thing and don't like them on children. Plus I think there's a safety issue when children are still young enough for rough-and-tumble play.

That's for girls, by the way. I don't like piercings on boys at all, full stop. My DSs will have to wait till they've left home if they want one!

Gateau · 22/07/2008 09:58

I agree-teenage for girls.
And boys - just no.

At least 11. At the earliest, the school hol between junior and sec school.

I hope to hold out till 13 at least though, with my dds.

Summer holidays between primary and secondary school... no earlier

11-13 (would prefer the older age but at 11 they should know what they're doing)

Bramshott · 22/07/2008 10:04

11 (or transfer to secondary school) as an absolute minimum. Ideally 13. I had to wait until 14 which I wasn't happy about at the time, but in hindsight, what with the cleaning up the pus-y holes, catching them on your clothes etc, it was probably a good idea.

Agree with summer holidays before secondary school

I was 14

Then between the ages of 18 and 21 added another three to one ear and two to the other

I don't wear earrings at all now

pinkblossom · 22/07/2008 10:07

Definitely not before secondary school.
