i am a single parent to a 5 year old -the dad was removed from the home at birth but she's always had contact. she sleeps two nights a month at his house . her and i bed share and with the warmer weather she wears a nightdress so she gets fresh air to her bits 😬
she has told me that this happens at her dads too and she bed shares with him and when i say they're here private parts she said he dad said well mum didn't send any bottoms! i don't know what to think at all. i think at 5 years old he shouldn't be sleeping next to her bare private parts and i bring too protective? i can't broach the subject at all as he's reactive

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

The vast majority do not cosleep with older children, as shown by your statistics. 10-20% bedsharing means 80-90% not bedsharing. This means the non bed-sharers are in a distinct majority, and bed sharing is therefore not normal.

Did you actually read or understand what I wrote?
I acknowledged it was not the majority.
Normal is generally taken as a within a range rather referring to the highest point of the distribution curve. Up to 1 in 5 is not an outlier. It is normal to bedshare. And here, I am talking about those who do it most or all of the time. Closer to 40% bed share occasionally. This is all aged 5. With babies and toddlers, it is higher. Bed sharing is normal human behaviour.

Snippy attitudes like yours, particularly in the US, mean it is unreported so it is likely to be even higher than available reports suggest.

i honestly think parents and children give up bed sharing when they're ready according to circumstances. my guess would be as a single parent t with a daughter it may be later than average. and i personally would be more comfortable sharing with my daughter than my son but every preference is personal. my issue really was that my daughters dad didn't cover her up to sleep next to him, not that they sleep next to each other. But let's not start that again ha ha.

Just to out a differnt spin on it, nudity in our household is totally seperate form anything sexual. So we leave it up to personal preferenrce at which point our kids decide they want more privacy. Normally happens around puberty. No adults wanders round the house naked but dependent on the person and the situation, we do sometimes get dressed infront of each other.

I would make it very clear that this was not something which was ok outside of our house though, which would cover your situation.

We posted at the same time. Your post appeared as i posted mine.

Maybe you should RTFT before posting on what are obviously sensitive threads.

Maybe you should take a breath before jumping in to reply to a post just so you can stick the boot in.

I was responding to your insensitive post - not 'sticking the boot in'. You're making yourself sound ridiculous now. Don't post before reading a thread in future and you won't have to go back rushing to delete your own posts and then complaining about other posters responding before you've managed to do it 🙄
