Just that really. Is there anyone out there who actually enjoys seeing their in laws and never had any issues with their MIL? I’m yet to meet anyone like this

Yes I love mine. So much that I kept her as my MIL when I divorced her son 😆 I've never met my 2nd MIL since DH is NC so it balances out

MsSmartShoes · 28/10/2025 20:24

I used to get on with her, but she started interfering, bad mouthing me to DH and barging through boundaries, undermining me with the DC. We hardly interact now.

Yes - love her to bits - she’s amazing. One of the reasons we moved continents was to live nearer to her (and Fil).

I love my sisters MIL does that count 😅 ..... I wish she had been my MIL she's such a lovely caring woman

HansHolbein · 28/10/2025 20:26

I love her more than my own mum. I call her mum!

CypressGrove · 28/10/2025 20:27

Yes, mine is absolutely lovely. Much prefer spending time with her than my own mum who is manipulative etc.

YellowCrayola · 28/10/2025 20:27

My MIL is a gorgeous, funny, kind woman who I adore. I would call her in a crisis over my own mother.

CactusPat · 28/10/2025 20:27

Nope.

Morningsleepin · 28/10/2025 20:28

I split up with my ex and kept my MIL, who was a gem

Maybeishouldcrochet · 28/10/2025 20:28

I liked my PILs. They were good people. MIL could be a little bit prickly but was always well meaning.

Ihavepaidalotforthisstory · 28/10/2025 20:30

I love my mother in law because she birthed and raised my husband!

Bigearringsbigsmile · 28/10/2025 20:30

Yes I love mine. She raised a lovely man who i am lucky to be married to. She is not perfect but neither am I.

Platypusdiver · 28/10/2025 20:30

Yes. Or I used to. I have been with dh for nearly 20 years. Mil was always lovely and warm. But as she is getting olde, her personality is changing. Now she is becoming rude and snappy towards me. It is very sad. I visit less often now.

unicornsarereal72 · 28/10/2025 20:30

I adored my not MIL. She was my best friend. and I miss her terribly

JaninaDuszejko · 28/10/2025 20:31

Of course some of us like our MILs. Not much to put in a thread though if you love someone: 'MIL is coming to visit, really looking forward to it, she's so lovely, AIBU?'

RampantIvy · 28/10/2025 20:31

Yes, mine was lovely. Sadly, when she developed alzheimers she became very aggressive and belligerent.

The son of a relative of mine got married recently, and she said that she felt she had gained a daughter. I think she will make a lovely MIL.

Tryingatleast · 28/10/2025 20:31

Yes and actually all of my friends bar one or two. When they say he married his mother (ew kinda!) it hits the mark, we’ve tons in common!!!

Screamingabdabz · 28/10/2025 20:32

Me! Love my MIL. She’s a lovely woman and we include her in everything.

HeddaGarbled · 28/10/2025 20:32

Ah, she’s dead now but she was lovely: thoughtful, generous, brilliant relationships with the children.

She and I came from very different backgrounds, and she had her funny quirks (as we all do) but we were respectful of each other and kept our mouths diplomatically shut when necessary.

JudgeBread · 28/10/2025 20:33

Yes I adore mine! She's a lovely woman and has become like a second mum to me. We've had absolutely no issues. She's compassionate, understanding, generous and respectful of boundaries. She's also a lot of fun to be around and I genuinely love spending time with her and her husband (who is also a doll).

She has two sons and as far as I know is just delighted that they're both happy and in love. She's wonderful.

I think my husband would also say much the same about my parents, we both lucked out with our in laws!

snauralaura · 28/10/2025 20:34

Yes. She's a warm, kind, intelligent and funny woman who shows nothing but love, affection and support to me, her son and our children. Couldn't be more grateful than I am for having her in our lives.

skippy67 · 28/10/2025 20:34

I loved mine. She was so caring, kind, and very funny. My dh loved my mum too.

WallaceinAnderland · 28/10/2025 20:34

Yes, loved my MIL. She was so funny and adored her family. I miss her.
