Nursery lying

Hello so this afternoon I went to pick up my little one from the nursery the had radish and they told me my daughter didn't like it and my daughter 4 year old heard that and came all the way home saying that she liked and they even eat it with butter. What's your thoughts please mummies? I am really upset on why the hell they lied! I just feel they are constantly testing my parental skills! Thank you

Back in the real world...
Mummy I DO like radishes!
Oh, ok, what else did you like today?

brunettemic · 08/05/2025 22:23

I do love a good old MN massive overreaction 😂

Apparently there is butter radish is a French thing 🤔 I am upset yes because my daughter come all the way home screaming at me like I said something... plus I feel like they are testing me!

I'm sure nursery staff have got better things to do than lie to you and try to "test" you. What for? It's not a big deal, forget it.

I also find it very strange that a nursery would have radishes for the children - they have a very strong flavour that your children are unlikely to enjoy.

We have a parent at the school where I work who thinks all the staff are against her and that we don't understand her child........despite the fact he has come on in leads and bounds since he started with us.

My 4 year old told his dad he loved the lunch I made him today. He didn't eat a single bite. It's not even really lying at that age, they just genuinely get confused about what the truth is.

I think the chances of nursery purposely lying about this are almost non existent. What would they gain from telling you she didn't eat a vegetable?

I can see why teachers are leaving the profession especially from early years! Wow 🤦‍♀️

Yep!

Also OP I’ve had children in my setting since babyhood and now they’re going off to school in a few months. Sometimes I do mix up small details about children, especially it’s been a hectic day with 30 odd children to care for. It’s not easy, the likeliest scenario is they’ve mixed her up with another child. It’s not a big deal. No one is lying to you or testing you.

I find it interesting how you immediately say your 4yo isn’t misremembering or lying. The big bad liars are automatically the staff? You clearly don’t trust them so god knows why she’s still in that setting.

TerrifiedPassenger · 08/05/2025 22:28

Tesco had no radishes when I called in just now. Better get into HQ PDQ for the mumsnet rush in the morning after the school run.

And proper salted butter that goes best on fresh baguette or crumpets

I agree with pp who said nobody eats radishes until you reach 33 years old.

She is in that nursery since she was 1y had couple issues before but they never lied to me before...

You have absolutely no proof the nursery lied. Stop being ridiculous.

thirdfiddle · 08/05/2025 22:29

It's a busy environment. However well they know your child, they could easily have got muddled up. I know my team very well and still forget on a regular basis which colleague told me something.

Why not just give her some radishes at home and see if she likes them?

My family put butter on them too, it tempers the bitterness. Though the ones you get these days aren't as bitter as they used to be. Or my taste buds died somewhere in between.

Mansionscoldandgrey · 08/05/2025 22:30

Are you sure you're not lying, and your child is actually a rabbit?
Called Peter.

paradisecityx · 08/05/2025 22:31

Woah.
This is a tad overkill.

TerrifiedPassenger · 08/05/2025 22:31

Wait until sh starts school and you ask her what she did today. The answer will usually be 'nothing'.

THAT'S the time to get ofsted involved..

Thunderpants88 · 08/05/2025 22:32

I can’t believe what I’m reading as a perceived issue.

want to litmus test this? Go buy a radish, butter it and see if you child will eat it.

Raddish isn’t something I would even eat because it’s burnt but go ahead and see what happens. I bet she hates it

Holdonforsummer · 08/05/2025 22:32

Pick your battles. You have a lot of parenting to go.

When my DS was very young, he did a Race for Life where all the other little children wrote names/drew pictures on their bibs in remembrance of relatives/people who had died from cancer.

DS insisted on having a picture of a pigeon on his bib because he'd seen a dead pigeon the previous day and was a) very sad about it and b) insistent the pigeon had died of cancer.

My DS was in fact not sad about the pigeon. He hates birds with a vengeance. Fuck knows why he told them he wanted a pigeon on his bib, but he absolutely did.

Don't try and attempt to understand the logic of young children. You will kill your brain cells in the process of trying to figure out their mad shit.

Whodathoughtit2 · 08/05/2025 22:36

My son said that at nursery he saw a rat sleeping and he woke it up and he and the rat played football but he wanted to be fastest strongest and quickest and then the rat but his finger and he flung it into the air and it landed on Arlo's head and then Arlo wore it like a hat all day until it was time to tidy up.

Nursery just said he'd had a 'really good day'. But he went into a LOT of detail about that rat 🤔

Sandylittleknees · 08/05/2025 22:37

Are buttered radishes cooked or raw?

radishes are nasty little things and I think you should report the nursery to ofsted (and/or police) for threatening small children with them, buttered or not.

samarrange · 08/05/2025 22:38

Bit of a long shot, I know, but hear me out: Is it just possible that DD said that she didn't like it when the radish was presented, and then changed her mind shortly afterwards, and forgot to keep the staff informed?

Squashedbanaynay · 08/05/2025 22:38

Aw damn, I’m late to Radishgate. I love a bit of Mumsnet nonsense.

Yes this ! I was just wondering how we approach this... are they buttered like jersey potatoes ? I only ever buy them because they are sometimes cheap and fill out a salad..i genuinely didn't know you could cook them....

DD will be getting marked down on her "communication with line manager" skills when her annual appraisal comes around.
