Nursery lying

Hello so this afternoon I went to pick up my little one from the nursery the had radish and they told me my daughter didn't like it and my daughter 4 year old heard that and came all the way home saying that she liked and they even eat it with butter. What's your thoughts please mummies? I am really upset on why the hell they lied! I just feel they are constantly testing my parental skills! Thank you

Who is taking 'butteredradish' for their new username then?

😂😂😂😂

Littlemisscapable · 08/05/2025 22:00

This..honestly..there are so many bigger things to worry about (and who butters radishes!??!)

MrsMappFlint · 08/05/2025 22:01

Just radish the moment.

Give her a radish tomorrow and see what the reaction is. Then just ask the nursery what's up if she does like it. But don't freak the kid out with any kind of obvious reaction.

Ek1234 · 08/05/2025 22:04

Good lord, my daughter tells me all the time that she's not eaten anything in nursery, when in fact the nursery have sent me pictures of her polishing of a 2 course lunch plus snacks! 😂... Kids tell fibs sometimes 🙃... I wouldn't be running to Ofsted just yet OP

REDB99 · 08/05/2025 22:05

Most ridiculous post of the week!
Who cares?
Maybe she says she didn’t like it then changed her mind? Maybe your DD didn’t like that they told you she didn’t like it so she is pretending that she did like it?
I would have given this 2 seconds of brain space then forgotten all about it.
Your DD’s school teachers are going to need a lot of help dealing with you. Lighten up.

Readytohealnow · 08/05/2025 22:05

Well this mummy has far too much else to think about than to be wasting time with radishes.
Slow week at work OP?

I discovered mumsnet in all its glory relatively recently. I was just telling DH that, in this thread, I’m witnessing the birth of a new mumsnet symbol, along with spider willies 😀

After the rubbish day I've had, I never would have thought I'd end it laughing about a buttered radish.
Thank you. It's cheered me up no end. 🤣

I had to Google it because I figured it was grilled or something first. I figured wrong. Even better, I found a recipe, all written out for how to make buttered radishes. Oh my! I could see if they were grilled but butter on a radish, raw and sitting on a plate???? Mind is now boggled. 🤔🤓

StupidBoy · 08/05/2025 22:11

PansyPottering · 08/05/2025 20:26

Me too. It wouldn’t cross my mind that they were lying about a radish preference.

That is such a quintessentially mumsnet sentence.

Yeswoman · 08/05/2025 22:12

Your daughter definitely did not eat that radish.

WiddlinDiddlin · 08/05/2025 22:13

So.. give her a buttered radish and see if she likes it.

It is far more likely that a/ they mixed her up with another kid who didn't like radish... or b/ she didn't like it at the time, but is telling you she did.

Give her a buttered radish, see if she actually likes it.

Pinktent · 08/05/2025 22:14

You sound unwell, OP. I would go to GP and explain your stress over this. It is so irrational.

Thisisittheapocalypse · 08/05/2025 22:14

Does it really matter whether she likes radishes, with or without butter ....?

Let it go

Butteredradish3 · 08/05/2025 22:15

@Copiousamountsofpulses was going to say me but clearly 2-3 people beat me to it.

I’ve been meaning to change my name for a while and your post prompted me so thanks ❤️

Let me get this straight …

child has been in this nursery for 3 years
she is due to start reception later this year

things have generally been fine,

UNTIL ….

today.
the Test is ON
lets see how the mum navigates the radish test

omg it all kicks off
child likes the radish,
gaslighting about the radish

mums on the ball, she can tell she is being tested on the radish

how will it all end ??? 🤪

Hilarious, I actually properly laughed.

OP it's no big thing, very likely they got her mixed up.
My 3yo has been talking about pineapple cake for weeks. We made one. He licked it and went yeurgh! Wouldn't eat a bite. He's still going on about pineapple cake. I reminded him he didn't actually like it. He is adamant he adores it and is asking me daily for it.
Small children are contrary creatures!

MrsMappFlint · 08/05/2025 22:17

Imagine the shock those lying bastards at the nursery will get if you tell The Pope and he actually goes there in order to tell them off for lying to mothers, causing them such distress.

I should write to him now. He could make it his first job. That'll show 'em!

KerfuffleShuffle · 08/05/2025 22:17

How is your mental health right now OP? This is such an odd thing to be worked up about and it just doesn't make sense. What would they be testing you about? Why was your daughter shouting at you about radishes?

Hipposat · 08/05/2025 22:17

“Fish fingers- ate all” Was on my son’s nursery journal. I was really surprised as I didn’t think he liked them and he’s a fussy eater so I was excited and went and bought some. Turned out they got him mixed up with another child and I wasted £2.29. They really tested me that day I tell you

Agapornis · 08/05/2025 22:17

Can confirm radishes with butter is a thing in France and it's delicious. Especially French black radishes, mm. Cut in half, butter like you would a sandwich, dip in sea salt flakes.

Suspect they wouldn't dip in salt for small children, mind.

Radishes are about 40p at Aldi right now, why not give it a go.

whatsappdoc · 08/05/2025 22:19

Please no one say anything that gets this thread taken down. It's pure Mumsnet gold!

CleaningAngel · 08/05/2025 22:19

Jojomamabee · 08/05/2025 20:34

No my daughter said specifically they even put butter on it! My daughter is not lying on this one because she give more details... I know my daughter! And the nursery did not confused with another child they know her since 1year old she is now 4. My thing is why would they lied?! Plus what would you mummies do about this?

Who puts butter on radishes? Sounds puke worthy

butteredhorseradish · 08/05/2025 22:20

Have you been at the fermented radish OP?
I know there's a new Pope and it's all very exciting but really you need to stay off the homebrew if you're going to react like this.
You'll have a stinking headache in the morning.

YourLoyalPlumOP · 08/05/2025 22:21

Jojomamabee · 08/05/2025 20:46

Apparently there is butter radish is a French thing 🤔 I am upset yes because my daughter come all the way home screaming at me like I said something... plus I feel like they are testing me!

Eh??? 😒🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

CoastalCalm · 08/05/2025 22:21
