Need some advice for my friend
So she’s currently 38 weeks pregnant and she’s got social involvement with this pregnancy due to her last child but it’s all getting better
She’s recently got in touch over call with her old mate in prison and been in touch for few days she’s worried that it’s now gonna go against her
he’s in prison for class a or b drugs
He isn’t the baby’s father at all
Does anyone know what would happen or if they would find out ?

How did the social find out ?

Calls are recorded and they were caught out that way . The prison has a duty of care and reported to social services.

So the probation officer could contact social services ?

My daughters ex's probation officer used to go to child protection meetings. All the professionals are basically in contact.

SaltyPig · 01/02/2025 16:07

You don't seem to be listening. According to you he could be a major heroin distributor or have been caught with class Bs. Prison calls are monitored. If the prison get wind that he's in touch with anyone it's not difficult to find out who. They will share information with SS if they deem it necessary.
I'd question her judgement even speaking to a prisoner with her past, let alone potentially seeing him as a suitable partner.

Op you can’t even be open and honest on an anonymous chat forum can you?

you are about to give birth

just focus on your baby and not prisoners

oh and accept ALL the help offered from SS

They will know because the prison will likely pass it on. They did with my DD . When she had contact with her ex. Although that was a DV situation so could be different. But not worth the risk .

I hope SS do pick this up and they are all over the OP from birth onwards

supersonicginandtonic · 01/02/2025 16:27

Social services do not get involved if they have been involved in the past. They get involved due to the past and current concerns. Your friend is lying OP

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 01/02/2025 16:28

If you know she's contacting a person who could ultimately bring trouble into her, and her child's life, then you have a responsibility to notify social services about what you know. That she is calling this person in prison.

Protection of children is everyone's business.

pinkdelight · 01/02/2025 16:28

I would very much hope SS are across this, and that she wises up and prioritises her baby not some prisoner. Her bits should be fully focused on giving birth not on patently inappropriate men.

It's really not worth the risk. My dd has 4 years old ss involvement because of the contact and nearly lost her child. Its not just a little check and they go in their way . It's honestly not worth it.

Do you feel, honestly, like your DD did not warrant any SS involvement at all?

That's a good litmus test. Would I be comfortable with SS knowing I've done x or been in contact with y. If not don't do it.

Great advice.

How long did it take for it to be flagged to social ?

It was 100% needed. For the sake of her and her child . Probably would have been dead by now had it not been for social services and other professionals

I can't remember to be honest. But regardless of weather it was 1 day or 2 weeks makes no difference.

She is blessed to have you. For being able to acknowledge that shows a strength and honesty that sadly the Op is currently lacking

Silvers11 · 01/02/2025 17:21

@Louiee11 This makes such very sad reading.

A Mother about to give birth, with SS involvement, is more worried about keeping her involvement with a druggie currently in prison a secret from SS than understanding that this involvement is a danger to both her children.

I hope SS do find out and protect those poor children. Looks like the Mother will end up losing both children, if she can't understand the need to keep them safe

AnotherVice · 01/02/2025 17:22

Incase it's not blindingly obvious OP, we all very much hope Social Services do find out. They exist to protect innocent babies whose mothers' 'like' and contact drug dealers from the type of chaotic lifestyle that accompanies such illegal and morally corrupt behaviour.

Louiee11 · 01/02/2025 17:29

I don’t know why all the horrible comments back it’s not like it’s her partner , ex or baby’s father she just wanted some evidence if they would find out or not
