Sick of the Naked Bike Ride

Hello I'm posting about the York- World Naked Bike Ride ob 29th June 2023 @ 4.15pm. This year I've decided enough is enough and as a York mum I'm going to go along and tell them so (North Yorkshire police have also been informed).

Having your cock and balls (overwhelming majority of naked participants are men) out in public isn't OK on any other day of the week - even if they are virtuous, net zero, climate saving ones.

No one really believes it's OK for adults to parade around naked in front of families and children in public without their consent and why should we have to stay at home? So this year I'll be there to collect evidence and respectfully handing out some pants.

Okaaaaaaaaaaay 😂

Being naked in public is not illegal or an offence, unless it causes offence.

You've chosen to be offended.

If you don't like seeing naked bodies, fair enough. I doubt many people are that arsed and if they think their kids would be shocked or upset, they'll stay away.

Grannyola · 19/05/2024 12:16

Agree, the public order thing only counts if you’re actually there. And I would say going somewhere to be offended might be a waste of your time.

CleanShirt · 19/05/2024 12:17

You are going very far out of your way to be offended here.

CormorantStrikesBack · 19/05/2024 12:18

Sadly the police won’t care. There’s a group of men who lurk naked in the woods near me and the police say it’s ok because they’re naturists and they don’t intend to offend anyone. You come round a corner and faced with a cock, which isn’t nice when you’re on your own in the woods. People with kids have come across them. I thought the offence was if someone was offended….and I am offended but the police seem to have a different interpretation!

They aren't parading.
That's something else you're thinking of.

They are sitting on a bike.

And it's not illegal.

Unless you are at close quarters and making a huge effort to look, you can't see much at all. Especially if it's a cold day.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 19/05/2024 12:19

As long as they are all going to destroy their saddles by fire after the race, I can't get that upset about it.

AGlinnerOfHope · 19/05/2024 12:20

I think it’s pretty grim too.

Coshei · 19/05/2024 12:21

Total over reaction

Maidez · 19/05/2024 12:22

The only ones who bother me (when they do it here) are the ones on the Boris bikes 😭

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 19/05/2024 12:24

Sounds very uncomfortable to me ! Where is this bike ride ? Round the streets in the middle of the day? Round a track? In a park ? It sounds such an odd, random thing . Nude swimming - yes, but riding a bike? No thank you .

AccountCreateUsername · 19/05/2024 12:25

So many too @Maidez 🤮

Whatevershallidowithmylife · 19/05/2024 12:26

I had never heard of it but I think there’s something wrong with people who want to do this in public considering there are likely to be children out and about. Do it on private land absolutely but in public, no.

Blackcats7 · 19/05/2024 12:27

If people want to be naturists and do so in a private setting for like minded adults that is acceptable.
Being naked in public is not acceptable.

FlabMonsterIsDietingAgain · 19/05/2024 12:29

"and why should we have to stay at home?"

You don't have to stay home, just don't go to the bike ride, go anywhere else, presumably that route isn't the only place in the whole country that you are able to go to that day.

It's not something I'd want to do or observe but everyone knows it's happening, everyone knows to avoid it if they don't want to see it, so why is it an issue to you?

Do you have so little going on in your life that you are able to spare the time to be deliberately offended?

EmmaGrundyForPM · 19/05/2024 12:29

There's an annual naked bike ride near where I used to live. As a (leisure) cyclist, I can't imagine why people want to do it - there's a reason why we wear padded shorts for bike rides!

But I can't get worked up about the nudity issue.

Tosstyhat · 19/05/2024 12:30

Hang on, why are we saying it's ok to ride a bike naked but flashing is an offence? Surely they're both subjecting unwilling people to seeing the genitalia of others?

Ijussthadanegg · 19/05/2024 12:31

I clicked on this thinking you meant 'naked bike ride' as a euphemism for sex.. was going to agree with you!

SiobhanSharpe · 19/05/2024 12:32

Isn't this just another rather tiresome fetish? Exhibitionism?
Especially as it's almost all men, desparate to get their cocks out.
And I don't give a fuck if I'm 'kink-shaming.'
Some kinks should be shamed. Although I suspect the shame and potential to offend/shock is part of the attraction anyway.
Just put it away chaps, there's a time and a place -- try that notorious pervy beach on the south coast. Oh wait, that's just about all male too. No-one to shock there...

Whatevershallidowithmylife · 19/05/2024 12:32

Just had a google - gosh my poor old mum would be mortified if she walked past that! Interesting that there are no kids (thankfully) riding naked so it’s ok to put others kids in the position of seeing this but not their own?

Quiteavibe · 19/05/2024 12:35

I object to this for different reasons, which is that women are not free to go naked. I'm pretty sure if I said I was going on a naked walk and went down the shops without any top on, I'd have the police visiting. Nipples are blurred out in the most benign of places, even though women's breasts are also perfectly ordinary body parts. I'm fed up with men going topless in the shops in summers (put a t-shirt on), parks and beaches fine, but I think women should also be able to do these things if the rationale is that the naked body is perfectly acceptable.

Genitals shouldn't be out on display on bike rides, parks, beaches (unless designated naturist ones where families can be welcome, there are nudist family areas) or anywhere IMO unless everyone's genitals are just fine. I am for covering genitals (on hygiene reasons and because flashing them can be used for aggression towards women) in general, but if we are going to have a free for all, then let anyone join in (except women won't because men know that flashing their bits is intimidating and unpleasant for women in public).

backinthebox · 19/05/2024 12:41

I can’t think of anything grimmer than a bunch of naked men on bikes! Lady Godiva was the original naked protester, but even she advertised when she was doing it and asked everyone to stay indoors so they wouldn’t have to see it.

Lots of women take part.

"Flashing" is only illegal if it's done with the intention of causing alarm or distress in the viewer.

pinkyredrose · 19/05/2024 12:42

You tell 'em Op!

Quiteavibe · 19/05/2024 12:46

@Maidez good. Although my guess is more men than women want to ride naked through a city. I'm just fed up of the hypocrisy around women's body parts and the fact that the sweaty bloke down the road can go to the shop with his top off, and I have to cover up for 'decency' reasons. I actually don't want to go topless, I want them to put their tops on. I'm fed up with women's bodies being seen as inherently more sexual and to be covered up than mens.
