Sick of the Naked Bike Ride

Hello I'm posting about the York- World Naked Bike Ride ob 29th June 2023 @ 4.15pm. This year I've decided enough is enough and as a York mum I'm going to go along and tell them so (North Yorkshire police have also been informed).

Having your cock and balls (overwhelming majority of naked participants are men) out in public isn't OK on any other day of the week - even if they are virtuous, net zero, climate saving ones.

No one really believes it's OK for adults to parade around naked in front of families and children in public without their consent and why should we have to stay at home? So this year I'll be there to collect evidence and respectfully handing out some pants.

There is an enormous range of age and sex
it isn’t just men

you’ve had plenty of notice York's a big place surely you can avoid it

we have an old warehouse near us that’s been convert in to an entertainment place that put gigs on there a couple approaching 60 who go completely naked as others said all legal to be naked in public

can I ask OP have you ever seen anything lewd going on or is it just naked men you object to and what about the naked women nwho take part

Oh right it's all ages so they must be ok!!! Do you not realise that women can be sexual predators too?

How do people not realise that this is predators operating in plain sight?!?! Baffling. Not surprising though. They have you all fooled

My friend and I were walking along our local beach one day last summer when we heard a frantic ringing of a bicycle bell and were confronted with an elderly lady on a bike wearing a large straw hat embellished with flowers and nothing else! Behind her were about 20 naked men, mainly over the age of 60, riding their bikes along the seafront.

The beach is obviously a place where young families go for the day and I feel it's a totally inappropriate place for a display of nudity. On the day we saw the Naked Bike Ride there were lots of children queuing for ice-cream or waiting to cross the road to go to the toilets so the cyclists had to slow down for safety reasons and this naked group were trying to get a lot of attention by ringing their bells and waving so I'm sure a lot of little children saw things that their parents may have preferred them not to see!

If these events really have to be held, (and I don't know why they should) I feel they should take place in the evening, after the majority of young families have gone home, not mid-afternoon

runningpram · 19/05/2024 19:44

I saw one of these by accident around Chelmsford a few years ago. It was mostly older men and was extremely grim. Yes you can stay away but if they’re taking place in town centres there’s every chance you could see it unexpectedly.

Sadly the police won’t care. There’s a group of men who lurk naked in the woods near me and the police say it’s ok because they’re naturists and they don’t intend to offend anyone. You come round a corner and faced with a cock, which isn’t nice when you’re on your own in the woods. People with kids have come across them. I thought the offence was if someone was offended….and I am offended but the police seem to have a different interpretation!

If you go down in the woods today, you're sure of a big surprise
If you go down in the woods today, you'd better avert your eyes

From my understanding, the purpose of the Naked Bike Rides isn't naturism or exhibitionist behaviour (although I'm sure there are people who jump at the opportunity for those reasons.)

The rides are meant to highlight exactly how vulnerable cyclists are in comparison to drivers. They take place in areas with heavy cycle traffic. On the occasions I've seen, there was lots of funny body paint to obscure some of the finer details. Really not anything to clutch pearls over.

Uhhhh . . . i'm sorry, but I really don't think this is the reason. The one I came across was held in a tourist area rather than our city centre

Forhecksake · 19/05/2024 19:48

It's not naive to believe that not everyone who participates is a predator. I know some of the people who attend the nearest ride. Lots of overlap with the extinction rebellion crew. If there's a protest, they'll attend. Riding naked on a bike through town (while warning everyone in advance) is probably one of the more sensible protests they'll engage with. I don't necessarily agree with all of their politics, but I wouldn't

40andlovelife · 19/05/2024 19:31

@ShiteRider why else would they do it? Ok maybe most are paedos and some are voyeurists. Either way, they're actually sick. They want people to see their sexual parts. They are a risk. They get off on it. Otherwise why do it? And please don't give me all that lefty shite.

Prize goes to one of the daftest posts on MN today.

It's innocent.

It's legal.

There are as many women as men doing it. (I've seen one in real life in a very academic city) and no one bats an eyelid.

It's showing how cycling is healthy and taking their clothes off it just bringing home their message.

40andlovelife · 19/05/2024 19:49

@DontforgetyourSPF yes ok! You are extremely naive.

Why did you post on Parenting @HardyEM ?

If you're worried your kids would see a willy, stay clear of the event.

It's as simple as that.

@DontforgetyourSPF yes ok! You are extremely naive.

errr....no I'm not.

Have you ever seen this event?

I have.

I suggest you go along to one and then your mad ideas may be shown up for what they are.

40andlovelife · 19/05/2024 19:51

@DontforgetyourSPF .

Best part of your post is the ' academic city' part!!!! What you on about??? Why is that relevant???

That’s disgusting. Why is it mostly men who do this?

As in I don’t hear of naked women with breasts and vaginas out in public and if challenged saying they’re naturists?

Take a look at the photos of this event online.

There are as many women as men.

Boobs on show, can't say I saw any vaginas as the women are sitting on the saddles.

DontforgetyourSPF · 19/05/2024 12:15

Okaaaaaaaaaaay 😂

Being naked in public is not illegal or an offence, unless it causes offence.

You've chosen to be offended.

If you don't like seeing naked bodies, fair enough. I doubt many people are that arsed and if they think their kids would be shocked or upset, they'll stay away.

Edited

Errrr perhaps reread that.

Being naked in public isn’t illegal unless it causes offence, except it does cause offence to the poster, which you’ve just minimised by saying she has chosen to be offended. Well doesn’t everyone who feels offended do that through choice?

I think an unfortunate aspect of this is that it's not heavily publicised

I am an avid reader of the local newspaper and never saw any mention of this event

When we have events on our seafront, e.g. half-marathons, triathlons, etc, there are posters at regular intervals along the beach. When the Naked Bike Ride took place, there was no advance warning as far as I am aware

I am quite sure that many people, including parents with young children, were suddenly confronted with a sight they didn't expect to see . . .

40andlovelife · 19/05/2024 19:57

@rwalker oh here we go.

No. Nothing has happened to me thankfully. I just have an intense dislike of adults parading their sexual parts in public. Call me old fashioned ...

Keep away from it then
some people
don’t care
join in
find it funny
go to support it
avoid it

just do what’s best for you and let others worry about themselves

40andlovelife · 19/05/2024 20:05

@rwalker no. Never will I turn a blind eye to predators. They really have you all fooled. Not surprised though. It's how they get away with it time and time again

I’d raise this issue with a police commander

Vettrianofan · 19/05/2024 20:09

It's up to them if they want to make a tit of themselves.

Beatrixslobber · 19/05/2024 20:09

I think it’s ridiculous. I’m not offended, I just think they are all really stupid.

Could you kindly explain the connection between adult men and women cycling in a city centre, during the day, round a designated route, and predators?

Are you suggesting the men on bikes are eyeing up young boys who are in the city centre?

Or do you think there are naked children cycling and older men are eyeing them up?

Clearly you know nothing about this and I even wonder if you live in England.

They are not parading.

They are sitting on a bicycle. Moving.

If you have an issue with nakedness, that's your issue.

As for me being naiive, I'm an old woman who's lived and seen a lot of life. I was even around when the musical HAIR was on in London - I expect you'd be shocked at that too. Actors with all their kit off. Parading it on stage.

If people want to be naturists and do so in a private setting for like minded adults that is acceptable.
Being naked in public is not acceptable.

You hit the nails on the heads

Nothing wrong with showing off your physique in the appropriate places but riding around town where families are around - not on IMHO.

Live and let live but this is a bot too far, ie the setting but TBH, if we were alone without the family, it would be a lol and make me wonder if they had a comfy saddle😂
