Sick of the Naked Bike Ride

Hello I'm posting about the York- World Naked Bike Ride ob 29th June 2023 @ 4.15pm. This year I've decided enough is enough and as a York mum I'm going to go along and tell them so (North Yorkshire police have also been informed).

Having your cock and balls (overwhelming majority of naked participants are men) out in public isn't OK on any other day of the week - even if they are virtuous, net zero, climate saving ones.

No one really believes it's OK for adults to parade around naked in front of families and children in public without their consent and why should we have to stay at home? So this year I'll be there to collect evidence and respectfully handing out some pants.

Round here yesterday we had the Naked Heart Walk in aid of the British Heart Foundation. Just missed a load of wobbly genitalia while I was out with the dogs.

DontforgetyourSPF · 19/05/2024 12:49

It's something that happens in lots of cities including central London and Cambridge.

They're usually well advertised and within a route - traffic free- so you do have the choice to avoid the city on that day, or at least when the ride is on.

The streets are cordoned off so you really have to be close up and looking to see much.

'Flashing' is sexual violence towards women. It has intent to shock and possibly harm.

Riding a bike naked is not flashing. I've seen naked cycle rides and was utterly nonplussed. There are plenty of women riding bikes too and TBH a lot of men and women do wear pants.

anniegun · 19/05/2024 12:51

Imagine making all this effort to travel to an event purely to be "offended"

Maidez · 19/05/2024 12:55

Quiteavibe · 19/05/2024 12:46

@Maidez good. Although my guess is more men than women want to ride naked through a city. I'm just fed up of the hypocrisy around women's body parts and the fact that the sweaty bloke down the road can go to the shop with his top off, and I have to cover up for 'decency' reasons. I actually don't want to go topless, I want them to put their tops on. I'm fed up with women's bodies being seen as inherently more sexual and to be covered up than mens.

There are more men, sure, and I agree about the different standards.

Can't speak for York but the London version really isn't a sex thing at all - the pics here give an idea of the vibe https://wnbrlondon.uk/. It's much more hippyish with a big element of green/anti-car. It's also very funny.

WNBR London

World Naked Bike Ride - WNBR London has been riding annually since 2004 to protest for a better environment, safer cycling and the recognition that ordinary people have ordinary bodies. It’s worthy, it's free, it’s fun, it’s legal and it’s making the w...

Unsurprisingly enough, when I came across this unsuspectingly in town with dc some years ago the one person I recognised was a man who had been thrown out of a local group for sending unsolicited sexual messages to young women members.

I would once have been totally cool about this sort of thing, I grew up with very few hang ups about the naked human body but sadly experience has taught me that this sort of thing 100% does attract people who will be doing it for sexual kicks. No doubt there are plenty of people taking part for harmless reasons too but unfortunately that just gives the flashers deniability.

WhipOutTheNips · 19/05/2024 13:11

@Quiteavibe

You absolutely CAN walk to the shops without a top on!! It's not illegal to be topless in this country (UK) and nipples (male or female) can be freely on display in public without breaking any laws. They are not classified as 'genitalia', which is what the exposure laws refer to.

'Society' is the only thing stopping women from displaying their breasts as openly as men...which totally pisses me off! We've been subjugated for what seems like forever by the (male!!) idea that breasts are there purely for sexual pleasure and for men to ogle...so we hide them away! Even breastfeeding women are often asked to 'cover up' when breastfeeding in public!! 🤬

However...we DO NOT HAVE TO! Even our bloody archaic laws recognise this...so if any woman is EVER asked to 'cover up' her breasts in public (particularly whilst breastfeeding for heavens sake!) you are quite within the law to refuse on the grounds that the law doesn't require it 🤷‍♀️

In May 2022 a petition to 'free the nipple' was rejected by the Government on the grounds that the law ALREADY recognised that it is NOT illegal for a woman to be topless in public (see attachment).

So ladies...next time you are feeling warm in Tesco, and your fella whips off his shirt...JOIN HIM and Whip Out Your Nips 🙌🏼🙌🏼

There's lots of things that I don't like so I don't have anything to do with them

I don't actively go there to get offended lol

I have seen the London one a few times and it seemed to me to be about 90% middle aged men with the few women present riding in their bras and nix. To be honest it was not exactly easy on the eye and the whole pantomime had a certain whiff of 'look at me, I'm crazy me' about it.

KarenOH · 19/05/2024 14:57

Bit weird that you are choosing to go along to a naked event OP.

Do YOU have a fetish?

40andlovelife · 19/05/2024 14:59

It's peverted behaviour in plain sight. The left will tell you differently though.

wanderyears · 19/05/2024 15:13

You'll be a year late, surely?

Delphiniumandlupins · 19/05/2024 15:15

I would simply avoid the area used for the bike ride, like I avoid city centres closed for marathons/Orange Marches/anything else that I'm not involved with. There is so much that infuriates me about life, I don't have to look for more stuff to be annoyed by.

Nc4ThisObvi · 19/05/2024 15:17

Its gross and creepy.

CormorantStrikesBack · 19/05/2024 12:18

Sadly the police won’t care. There’s a group of men who lurk naked in the woods near me and the police say it’s ok because they’re naturists and they don’t intend to offend anyone. You come round a corner and faced with a cock, which isn’t nice when you’re on your own in the woods. People with kids have come across them. I thought the offence was if someone was offended….and I am offended but the police seem to have a different interpretation!

This is shocking, I'm wondering if you live near me because it's a problem where I am too.

Sherwood Forest? So major family friendly place not a little back street wood.

testing987654321 · 19/05/2024 18:49

Yep, and Colwick Woods, directly opposite a secondary school. Same issue.

Quiteavibe · 19/05/2024 19:09

@WhipOutTheNips thank you for letting me know that, I shall give it some consideration:) I wonder why the newspapers always pixelated women's nipples and breasts then? If it's not illegal to show them. I just assumed (when there was Page 3 there was no pixelation, of course).

MrsMoastyToasty · 19/05/2024 19:15

They do one in Bristol too. They start at the Full Moon pub- I kid you not! It ain't a pretty sight.

Absolute pervs. I don't understand why it isn't illegal. Paedo in plain sight .

Eh? It’s not my cup of tea but it’s a bit of a leap to start talking about peadophiles.

40andlovelife · 19/05/2024 19:31

@ShiteRider why else would they do it? Ok maybe most are paedos and some are voyeurists. Either way, they're actually sick. They want people to see their sexual parts. They are a risk. They get off on it. Otherwise why do it? And please don't give me all that lefty shite.

Forhecksake · 19/05/2024 19:33

From my understanding, the purpose of the Naked Bike Rides isn't naturism or exhibitionist behaviour (although I'm sure there are people who jump at the opportunity for those reasons.)

The rides are meant to highlight exactly how vulnerable cyclists are in comparison to drivers. They take place in areas with heavy cycle traffic. On the occasions I've seen, there was lots of funny body paint to obscure some of the finer details. Really not anything to clutch pearls over.

rwalker · 19/05/2024 19:37

There is an enormous range of age and sex
it isn’t just men

you’ve had plenty of notice York's a big place surely you can avoid it

we have an old warehouse near us that’s been convert in to an entertainment place that put gigs on there a couple approaching 60 who go completely naked as others said all legal to be naked in public

can I ask OP have you ever seen anything lewd going on or is it just naked men you object to and what about the naked women nwho take part

If you believe this you are very naive.

I'm impressed with the clever spin they put on it. Doesn't surprise me though. Predators are known to be very sly, convincing and compelling.

Forhecksake · 19/05/2024 19:42

The rides are generally 7+ miles, and if you're close enough to see genitalia on a moving bike, you'll be run over.
