Eggs in porridge

I came across a recipe online that stirred an egg into porridge. This sounded vile to me at first but the recipe insists you can't taste the egg. My toddler is quite a fussy eater but one thing he loves is porridge and will eat it with almost anything mixed in: mashed banana, grated carrot with raisins and cinnamon, grated apple and a spoonful of peanut butter, raspberries mashed through with honey, etc.

I can mix a lot of things in that he wouldn't eat if they were given to him otherwise. He'd never eat apple or carrots for example. I also mix chia seeds and flax seeds through. It's great bang for my buck given the rest of his meals can be tricky.

Has anyone ever mixed an egg into porridge before? Is it utterly vile? I hope it works as it's another easy way to get e and nutrients into him!

@TheLittleRedDragon

I'm reading all your posts while absolutely tanning a packet of chocolate digestives after a tough day.

I'm really not fussed. I just want my son to have a varied diet.

No wonder people get heart disease, heart attacks, cancers...

I don’t think it’s the eggs that are the problem here…. I imagine it’s all the other crap a lot of people eat in their diet causing that…

That's the first link you posted, that I commented on - did you not understand that? - and the same comments stand. There are numerous claims on that page.

What source is cited for the claim "Those consuming the amount of cholesterol found in two Egg McMuffins or more each day appeared to double their risk of hospitalization or death."?

Does he mean relative risk or absolute risk? Was the study looking at people who actually consumed egg mcmuffins, or the equivalent cholesterol from other sources?

You do seem to suffer from the Dunning-Kruger effect. I hear dihydrogen monoxide can help with that.

Oh, you're back @TheLittleRedDragon - what is the answer to this, please?

For goodness sake @TheLittleRedDragon you are absolutely not "m just pointing out that they are wrong (and may want to reasses risk in light of the evidence)."

You re harping on and on and on despite having been repeatedly asked to shut up and go away.

You have 1 single solitary 'expert' who has written an article saying that eggs are bad. Here's several saying they're good for you. Why do you think you're right and EVERYONE else is wrong?

Oh absolutely. I'm just fascinated by the things they used to do back in the day! I went down an internet rabbit hole recently on the history of pap and gruel as infant food.

I'm not sure how common it was, I think it was just to try to build her up. She was born very early and her mother was told she wouldn't live.

Ok i have to pile in now because this is too funny. I looked at the link and… he’s trained as an agriculturalist 😂

He’s not a doctor. Or a scientist. He’s never done a peer reviewed study. And if he read other researcher’s, he wouldn’t be qualified to interpret the results.

Look, who knows - eggs have variously been considered to be a net positive or net negative to human health for decades depending on the research. The latest (actual real peer reviewed in the BMJ) research seems to say they are fine.

We all should eat less meat and animal products from a climate change perspective. The animal produce industry is generally cruel. These things we can agree on.

Protein is good for growing children. Most of us can also agree on that.

Yes, it's all the modern UPFs that are bad for you. Not foods that have been valued highly and eaten by humans for thousands of years.

At least@TheLittleRedDragon wont be teaching her grandmother how to suck eggs.
Heres another egg related warning.

when I was a teenager there was a fad to use a whole egg as a hair conditioner. So I tried it out , when I attempted to wash out the eggy conditioner in a hot shower, it scrambled in my hair.

Raccaccoonie · 01/03/2024 21:33

Well, that's me done on this.

Ah gutted @TheLittleRedDragon if only there were a few more minutes in the day to explain those citations you swear definitely exist! Never mind, you've proved my point for me very nicely. Grin

watch out for that DHMO, though. Nutritionists are starting to discover that it might not even be really vegan.

FlabMonsterIsDietingAgain · 01/03/2024 21:33

@TheLittleRedDragon whereas nutritional advice from someone named after cocaine is so much easier to take.

Do feel free to fuck off!

Why, I've tried to help people become aware that eggs are bad for you.

Why am I a nasty peice of work for trying to improve other people's health by giving them a link to a reputable source with the most up to date nutricion info (evidence based).

No. I'm not. I'm just dealing with the flack that you get when you tell people a truth that they don't want to hear.

byprovidenceimpoverished · 01/03/2024 21:37

No eggs - or Egg McMuffins - here (vegan Blush) but this thread has just FORCED me to have a cosy and delicious bowl of porridge!

Waffle92 · 01/03/2024 21:39

Yes always have an egg in my porridge, cooked slowly on the hob. Makes it creamy and you cannot taste it.

Yourethebeerthief · 01/03/2024 21:40

@TheLittleRedDragon

What was that comment to a PP about their family's health concerns?

No. I'm not. I'm just dealing with the flack that you get when you tell people a truth that they don't want to hear

Yes. You really are the Jesus Christ of egg awareness.

If you were so solid in your convictions you'd have stopped at your first post. The link is there for everyone to read.

No you must be right - the high amounts of UPF, fast food, sugary food and drinks and high carb diets that many eat have no cause for concern. But those that eat an egg shock horror they are all getting heart disease and dying prematurely.

My name refers to an ornament that I bought. (Not one for cocaine myself, Flabmonster)
