Parenting

there are many threads here preaching a 'holier than thou' message, and I want to say.........

......I am not perfect, I am not the greatest mum ever (altho I really would like to be able to say I am), and I am also not the best person to ask for advice on feeding kiddies the 'perfect' diet........

there are many threads here stating how we feed our DC's, treat out DC's, raise our DC's, and for the most part we all agree....

but surely.....(and I speak a lot for myself here)

sometimes we also LIE!!!

I have my standards, and 75% of the time I try to stick to them, but 25% of the time I either fail, or take my time remembering and so parenting cana be a little slack in these periods.

BUT

when there are threads here, I give advice and sometimes realise that I have 'twisted' the truth somewhat in my favour......

I don;t give my kiddies as much veg as I claim at times....or at least...I find I offer said veg, just they refuse it and it ends in the bin. (Altho that is not the post I would add at times)'

I offer fruit each day....only 3 of them eat with any enjoyment, and the other 2 have suplements.

I give them chocolate every day, and icecream, and pudding (well, that comes under the icecream TBH), they have crisps too most days...........

I have smacked them (altho sinse being here more, I haven;t and even DD1 said the other day that she can;t remember me ever smacking altho I still threaten it for the 'count to three' threat. It works, as I have never got to 3...!

I even allow a take-away each week.....

Oh, and as for chicken.....no idea where it comes from, altho that will be changing soon as the taste is definatley different as I have tested

and...............I drive to school......

please tell me I haven't confessed all and am now going to be pelted with stones....

Right my first porridge post was addressed to Elf - in this my second porridge post I will (second confession alert) assert that I too cook porridge (or ready brek) in the microwave!

my baby likes Cheerios too - not with milk she just practices her pincer grip and crunches them!

it's porridge.

ready brek for the kids and then i don't even bother with the microwave.

i use boiling water from the kettle and kill two birds with one stone because then that's my cuppa sorted, too.

Psychomum: You ROCK!!

Think we all make out we are "supermum" at some point but deep down we ALL have our faults. At the end of the day as long as our kids are happy and healthy it dosent matter if we dont "go by the book" and become mother earth.
I have loads of faults when it comes to mothering, but I adore my kids and as far as im concerned as long as they know right from wrong, use their manners and are safe and happy I dont care if they have sweets when they should be eating organic lentils.
I dont think any mum should beat themselves up for not being perfect, Ive yet to meet anyone near perfect. Yes its good to give and take advice. But at the end of the day they are YOUR kids, as long as you arnt swigging cider from a bottle whilst slobbing on the sofa all day and letting your children ransack the neighbourhood you are probably doing a great job.

Expat: Congrats on the pregnancy. When are you due?

You see that's the art of mothering isn't it - make ready brek, insert ready brek in microwave. Whilst cooking make self cup of tea, insert ready made ready brek in waiting baby which slave loving older sister has lifted into highchair for me, return to kitchen to find tea now at perfect quaffing temperature! It's like a ballet - perfect and effortless.

Hey nothing wrong with jarred curries. Especially when you are as crap at making proper curries as I am, have tried and failed miserably despite buying at least 8 Indian made easy cook books...they lie like cheap japanese watch. As for the rice, never attempt to do anything but rip corner of the packet and put on full power for 2 minutes. Its fool proof.

Yes I too have slave who is absolutely fab, however have found myself being conned into giving him pocket money because, in his words "he runs around for me all the time" therefore deserves pocket money for that instead of chores. In his mind he thinks running upstairs with a nappy for me (well obviously not ME but when I forget to get one for baby) or holding baby while I bath Ds2 qualifies as household chores and should not be made to do washing up etc aswell. I am being a soft touch arnt I.

Part time slave is ok expat - just get your money's worth when he's around Pyscho - I think I just timed dd3 nicely - my poor big girls adore her and aren't old enough yet to walk out. They have grumbled about tidying up her toys but we've promised she will be made to do it as soon as she's able. As she is our adored last born though - I'll have to stiffen my resolve to make that happen!
