What was your child's first word?

And how old were they?

I think DS (21mo) just said 'book' !! He was holding one at the time and I'm sure I heard him say it

Mums DSS first word was 'barbecue' 😂😂 he just toddled to the kitchen, said it and went away again. Apparently it sounded more like a deep burp 😂

Ball. Me. Yes. Now the yes girl says no and appears to have PDA😩 she's 16. Ball boy has little interest in balls. Balls were followed quickly by boobs and he misses those he says now he's 8. Me girl is 14 and typically egocentric. I wish my mum remembered my first word.

Tiger. Clear as anything. After refusing to so much as babble up to that day.

DS1 - "more"
DS2 - ive no idea.

Impossible to say, because they both babbled and tried hard to talk including gesturing etc, before it just transitioned into taking. So there wasn’t a demarcation of a day when they didn’t say anything followed by a day when they did.

SensitiveB · 28/06/2023 21:36

Cat
shoe
Dada (daddy)
(3 DC)

Yodapie · 28/06/2023 21:36

Both said mama at 6 months, then dada a few months later, then ‘no’, ‘more’ and things like ‘ball’ and ‘cat followed on!

MotherOfCatBoy · 28/06/2023 21:36

Dada, then No, then Mama. About 10-12 months, can’t really remember when, but I remember the order.

SidekickSylvia · 28/06/2023 21:37

Eldest was 'Tea', while handing me his cup. Next two both said 'dada' first, which is apparently the typical first word, then youngest's was 'nana', to my mum. Little traitors - not a 'mama' between them until about a month later (and lots of prompting).

847arc · 28/06/2023 21:37

Mum and ball

My mum is still miffed that my first word was dad 😂

frootie · 28/06/2023 21:38

Duck aged 11 months

AdoraBell · 28/06/2023 21:38

DD1 said a vague Mum a few days after 1st birthday. Her twin sister said Car clearly at about 11 months.

RandomMess · 28/06/2023 21:39

"Dar" for star at 9 months old 😳 rest of her words continued from there but 90% as clear as day. Mummy & Daddy appeared very late at 14 months clearly couldn't be arsed until she could say them properly.

My youngest said her sisters name - Abi.

Can't remember the others Blush
