Unexplained marks on baby

Hi mamas my 5 month old son has some weird looking marks on his legs and stomach.
first noticed on Sunday but looked very small so not really alarmed and we were catching a flight back home so didn’t really think much of it.
However they have not gotten worse. Much bigger and look sore, although there are scabs so maybe that’s a good sign??
I posted on other app and user said looks like staph infection. Which is apparently contagious and potentially quite dangerous.

any nurses or doctors here that know what it could be? have appointment with GP booked but not till tomorrow morning.

I'd be getting that looked at today. If you can't get a GP appointment go to minor injuries. I'd be worried about an infectious disease spreading.

FannyFifer · 17/08/2022 09:56

They look very strange, has he been looked after by anyone else?

saltwaterandsuncream · 17/08/2022 09:58

Straight to minor injuries.

They look like cigarette burns, I'm just going to say it.

If you're 100% certain they're not, straight to minor injuries.

Cigarette burns is what I immediately though also.

saltwaterandsuncream · 17/08/2022 10:00

My son had a staph infection. It looked more like hives / a rash and he had a fever / was very tired.

ednatheevilwitch · 17/08/2022 10:03

I also think these look like cigarette burns. Has your child been looked after by anyone apart from you?

CleopatrasBeautifulNose · 17/08/2022 10:03

Keep your doctors appointment and meanwhile dress the area (breathable bandage/plaster so it isn't kept moist) to prevent baby touching and spreading and use good hygiene when you care for baby, wash hands to stop cross infection in case it is contagious.

sarahc336 · 17/08/2022 10:04

Op they don't look good whatever they are, they're looking like they're starting with an infection. How did they look at the start?? I'd go the walk in centre today xx

Firsttimemama08 · 17/08/2022 10:04

@Flittingaboutagain do you think they would take a look in urgent care or A&E? Because the nearest minor injuries is quite far from us.

Firsttimemama08 · 17/08/2022 10:06

@saltwaterandsuncream so are you saying this doesn’t look like staph? My baby doesn’t have a fever and is eating and sleeping the same.

vroom321 · 17/08/2022 10:07

Aw they look like burns

GreenIsle · 17/08/2022 10:07

Have you a picture of the ones on his stomach

sarahc336 · 17/08/2022 10:07

I think a&e would see you yes do you think they could be burns??

MrsOwainGlyndŵr · 17/08/2022 10:07

FannyFifer · 17/08/2022 09:58

Cigarette burns is what I immediately though also.

Me too.

HSKAT · 17/08/2022 10:07

Agree they look like burns

Firsttimemama08 · 17/08/2022 10:08

Re cigarette burns, not possible. He has been looked after by other people (we have just got back from a holiday with family) however none of them smoke and the only time he wasn’t with me was for an hour or 2 tops whilst I was in the sea or whilst family took him for a walk in pram. I don’t think this was inflicted although I agree they do look kinda look cigarette burns.

OP posts:
Firsttimemama08 · 17/08/2022 10:09

@GreenIsle no i don’t. He’s sleeping in the sling atm but will post one when he’s awake. Stomach one looks very similar.

OP posts:
sarahc336 · 17/08/2022 10:09

Well that's good op but they don't look right whatever they are. Where were you on holiday?? Could they be bites turning nasty? Xx

vroom321 · 17/08/2022 10:09

He looks quite tanned could they be sun burn? A bite?

hewouldwouldnthe · 17/08/2022 10:10

There a weird infection (I think caused by staph) which actually looks like cigarette burns. Get them looked at be expect to have some awkward questions asked. It's not personal, but the are often mistaken in this way

BadGranny · 17/08/2022 10:10

One of my kids had marks like that. They do look like cigarette burns, and I had years of suspicion hanging over me from school and doctors. Turns out that my child has an unusual form of atopic eczema. It wasn’t identified until another autoimmune condition flared up, and a specialist recognised it immediately.

ElizaJones · 17/08/2022 10:11

Is something going on that you haven’t told us about? They don’t look like accidental marks.

sarahc336 · 17/08/2022 10:11

They look like leg ulcers do just smaller which would suggest infection so I'd just a&e if you can't get to walk in centre x

Dobbysgotthesocks · 17/08/2022 10:15

I think they could be insect bites actually. Specifically something like horsefly bites and the scabs have come off leaving an open sore?

I think he definitely needs to be seen. They look potentially infected and may need antibiotics.

GoTheFcukToSleep · 17/08/2022 10:17

Bit of a leap to jump to cigarette burns! OP, this could be impetigo (often caused by staph) or another kind of bacterial infection. So if your baby got some bites for example they may have become infected. My kids had this before and it looks quite similar. Dr should be able to prescribe some antibiotic cream like fucedin to treat it.
