Unexplained marks on baby

Hi mamas my 5 month old son has some weird looking marks on his legs and stomach.
first noticed on Sunday but looked very small so not really alarmed and we were catching a flight back home so didn’t really think much of it.
However they have not gotten worse. Much bigger and look sore, although there are scabs so maybe that’s a good sign??
I posted on other app and user said looks like staph infection. Which is apparently contagious and potentially quite dangerous.

any nurses or doctors here that know what it could be? have appointment with GP booked but not till tomorrow morning.

Please check in baby's throat for any signs of infection there. Staf infection can get in through tonsillitis. My DC also had no temp and fed well while this infection was taking hold in the form of tonsillitis. I had no idea. Please don't worry about your son being taken away, this is clearly infection, not inflicted.

Just checking that there is no new clothing with metal that baby has been wearing. The two spots equally spaced seem odd, more like contact dermatitis. I get similar on my stomach if I wear jeans, the studs have nickel which burns my skin in the same way .

Well you'll have 3 days worth of photos by tomorrow. So the specialist will be able to see progress of the new one. And hopefully you've taken more photos today of the ones he already has.

Really hope you get some answers.

Ps he is adorably chubby. No baby looks like that if they're not loved and cared for. Please try not to worry x

Firsttimemama08 · 19/08/2022 00:01

Thanks again for the suggestions will mention staph infection to doctor tomorrow. I was thinking that too about poppers because yes he has been wearing new clothes but the one on his stomach is on the side so not where the poppers would be so don’t think it’s that.
this is what they looked like this evening, definitely bigger than yesterday. He’s still smiling tho so I’m grateful for that !

What a beautiful smile!
Hope you get some answers tomorrow.

Omg what a glorious boy! Joyous smile Wink I miss those days - lucky if I get a hello nowadays!

There is definite change there between the original photos and these ones and they really don't look like burn marks anymore. Definitely like some kind of infection.

RichardOsmansXraySpecs · 19/08/2022 00:38

Oooh he's a little cutie 🥰

Hope you get some answers soon.

Derbee · 19/08/2022 00:41

Oh my goodness, what a cutie! Lovely boy 😊

Dilbertian · 19/08/2022 08:13

Oh my, what a gorgeous, squidgy boy!

Those spots look exactly like what my boy had. Have a look back at the photo I posted.

Ducksurprise · 19/08/2022 08:39

Oh he is gorgeous, what a smile.

You can definitely see the progression through the photos. Good luck today.

Thankfully nothing too worry about, doctor suspects it’s impetigo. Easily treated with a cream. What a relief!!

Great news OP, that’s what I expected as well. I can be contagious so remember to wash hands etc after applying cream. It should clear up quickly with cream.

sarahc336 · 19/08/2022 12:41

Good news op, hope he's well soon xx

Eixample · 19/08/2022 12:51

Shocking that the first doctor you saw didn’t recognise tbh

Your GP should be ashamed of himself/herself! Impetigo is so common in young children. They could have saved you a lot of worry with a bit of competence.

Glad it’s all fine now anyway.

Firsttimemama08 · 19/08/2022 13:18

The GP told the specialist she believed them to be cigarette burns!! So today most of the appointment involved a thorough examination of his body and lots of prodding on bones to make sure nothing was broken.
it wasn’t until I went into more detail about how they were oozing yellow fluid, that he was able to diagnose impetigo.
Felt pretty awful to know this was their first thought, however I do get it and am grateful we have a system that trains people on signs of abuse. Just thankful we got to the bottom of it ! Hope I don’t catch it lol

I suppose it's good that they question parents like that but I'm pretty sure someone who had burnt their DC wouldn't be seeking help in the first place but anyway, glad you got to the bottom of it.
Hope he's better soon Flowers

Clymene · 19/08/2022 14:03

Oh phew! What a horrible experience for you though at least I guess it meant you got seen super quick.

Hope the cream sorts it out quickly (and yes that you don't catch it!)

Felinewoman · 19/08/2022 14:13

Dear OP. I am sorry you had to go through this but medical professionals have to explore all possibilities in small people. Too many babies do get abused and that's what the safety net is for. I am glad you get this treated now.
He is gorgeous 😍 btw

Being such an inept GP that you miss impetigo, and decide instead that the blisters are cigarette burns is not exploring all options. To be honest, I’d put in a complaint about the GP. I’d be furious

Apologies for my previous post, posted by mistake (autocorrect).
What I started typing was - lovely news and what a gorgeous smiley baby!

Dilbertian · 19/08/2022 20:01

How upsetting! But at least it wasn't a surprise or a shock to you, after this thread.

Your cutie pie will soon have his lovely, healthy skin back again.

HasB · 08/07/2023 22:17

Absolutely agree - you have to beg the drs to get your child admitted and treated with meds
