Anyone else hate school gate mums

Hi, there's one mum in particular on the school run that is just so enthusiastic and involved in everything.. she does my head in! Constantly arranging play dates for her daughter with a different child every time.. it's like she wants her daughter to have allll the friends. Then when her daughter inevitably falls out with one of her mates she's whispering to other parents about said child. Just so irritating.. are there mums like these everywhere? What's the worst school mum story you have?

That is a massive generalisation!

If they annoy you that much then learn to ignore them when dropping your children off.

Lasana · 20/05/2022 13:14

A different child every time - are we meant to limit the range of children?!

greyinganddecaying · 20/05/2022 13:15

I don't hate them, but school grounds are full of different characters and politics. Made worse IMO by the class WhatsApp groups!

Best to ignore & distance yourself if you don't want to get involved.

MN seems to despise "school mums" ...despite usually having school age children ....and thus being a school mum themselves...Confused

I have lots of good friends I met via the school/nursery gates, I miss them since I've worked ft and kids now at secondary. (There are some I don't especially gel with but I'm not sure that's due to them being in a school playground)

Echobelly · 20/05/2022 13:17

Not really... they've never been especially friendly to me, but then I've never been at the school gate much; it's nothing personal, they've just never known me very well all the time the kids have been at school - which has pretty much come to an end for me in the last 6 months since DS started walking there and back anyway.

MintyMoocow · 20/05/2022 13:17

OFFS,
Schoolmums are just women dropping their kids at school. By definition some of them are not working because they have young children at home, so they socialise where that actually meet people.

Get over yourself!

Fizbosshoes · 20/05/2022 13:17

I find class WhatsApp helpful as well...I'm probably one of the people everyone hates!Blush

Badlifeday · 20/05/2022 13:18

School gate mums are just women with children at school.
It's ridiculous to hate them en masse.

Coughee · 20/05/2022 13:18

If you're a mum who takes your kid to school then you're a 'school gate mum' so that covers a hell of a lot of different types of people! But no, I don't find the school gate any different to other environments like work or shared accommodation or whatever - there's always going to be a few arseholes but most people are basically fine.

Johnnysgirl · 20/05/2022 13:19

You are a school gate Mum.

Annoyedandirritated · 20/05/2022 13:20

Im probably one of the people everyone hates too 🤣 I’m friendly, enthusiastic and active in watsap groups 🤣

BananaShrimp · 20/05/2022 13:20

Are school mums even still a thing? So many children get picked up by grandparents and childminders, dropped off early to breakfast club, picked up late from after school clubs - I’m surprised there are that many mums at the gates nowadays. When I pickup my child I circumvent any drama by being ten minutes late, my child is last to get picked up and the mums have mostly gone by then.

SkirridHill · 20/05/2022 13:21

I encourage my DD to play with lots of different people.🤷🏻‍♀️

juliainthedeepwater · 20/05/2022 13:21

So misogynistic, yuk. I suppose the school gate dads are ok?

Imhereforthememes · 20/05/2022 13:22

Where I live the 'school gate mums' spend all day in their tracks suits smoking weed. If not outside the school, then the local Spar.

SleepingStandingUp · 20/05/2022 13:24

I mean you don't sound like much of a treasure yourself.

Generalising "hate school mums" because one parent is trying hard to help her kid make friends. Jesus. I assume you like the school Dad's because they're cool like you and not awful like all those OTHER women?

This. I miss the school gate mums now DC are grown. I like enthusiastic and involved people; makes a change from the aloof post-pandemic model where nobody can be bothered about anything.

Crocsandshocks · 20/05/2022 13:27

I kind of know what you mean about the excessive enthusiasm. Its fucking boring as hell at the school gate. It does make me wonder if some are medicated.

AskingforaBaskin · 20/05/2022 13:29

I haven't got on on account of me being a normal human.

But I now have the fear of bumping into you OP.....ugh finger crossed it never happens

anotherNCsorryfolks · 20/05/2022 13:29

Worse school mum story... one of the mums her child pulled out a hammer on my 5 year old and chased him with it. He was eleven at the time and she laughed it off saying "boys will be boys." .......your story doesn't really compare.

Sounds like some of you should be Hmm

RibNSaucyArseCrack · 20/05/2022 13:32

Id much prefer that over over the crack heads at my school! Fed up of having to walk my baby through clouds of smoke outside the gates and parents screaming at their kids calling them pricks.

CaliforniaDrumming · 20/05/2022 13:32

Only on MN are people who want to make new friends- or want their children to- accused of being medicated.😄 It's like the last taboo, admitting to being lonely or having a lonely child.
