Going out in pyjamas

Jolie12345 · 13/02/2022 12:35

I often do the school run or pop to the local shop in the evening in my pyjamas. And I wouldn’t be ashamed to turn up to a friends or families house without putting on proper clothes. I’ve always been more interested in being comfortable than looking my best. I work from home so even if I do get dressed I come back and put pjs back on. Is it just me? Do you judge people who step out in pj bottoms with trainers?

Could be lounge wear, could be pyjamas. The only differences is which section they are in and how they are marketed. But I’m not taking character pjs from Asda, or button up satin pyjamas!

I’m most definitely not. You haven’t read all of my comments

If its loungewear other than pyjamas it doesn't feel like that's overly unusual? If you sleep in them and don't change them before going out though sounds a bit gross. If someone was in actual pj's I'd wonder if they were okay, school drop off is savage as well as of course others will notice.

Yes, I absolutely would judge you.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 13/02/2022 17:21

Well, if you'd have a baby-doll negligee blow up with the wind as you were entering the butchers I'd bet you stop wearing nightwear outside the home.

I know I did.

Chely · 13/02/2022 17:23

Only gone out in my PJ's when I've had to pick dh up late in the evening.
You can get lounge wear which looks more day appropriate but super comfy. I always raise an eyebrow at the school run mums in PJ's.

NuffSaidSam · 13/02/2022 17:27

If you sleep in them and don't change them before going out though sounds a bit gross.

Why? What's 'gross' about sleeping?

I'd argue you probably come into fewer contacts with germs or 'gross' things asleep in bed than you would moving around your house and garden. But it would be ok if she got dressed, spent all day in her clothes and then went out right?

Classicblunder · 13/02/2022 17:27

@Kinko

Interesting thread.

What are peoples views on someone who does get dressed casually - say jeans and t-shirt, or joggers etc but doesn't do their hair or make-up? I.e they look dishevelled but are wearing clothes

Let's taking raving natural beauties and the young out of the equations and focus on average women 35yrs+

What do you mean by "do hair"?

I don't perceive no makeup as dishevelled. Obviously tangled or matted hair, yes. I don't think of air dried, brushed hair as dishevelled either

I wouldn't do it personally but don't judge those that do. So long as you're comfortable that's all that matters. Much more to worry about in life than what others are wearing!

LouLou198 · 13/02/2022 17:50

Only time I have gone out in my pjs was when dd was unwell and had to dash to the pharmacy before it shut at 11pm. Had a big coat on over the top though! Would never do it normally.

ofwarren · 13/02/2022 17:53

I wouldn't even notice OP. Wear what you like, be comfy.

ldontWanna · 13/02/2022 17:53

Thought so. I find it really interesting that a lot of the posters jumped to the fluffy pjs image. Their own subconscious bias from reading "PJs outside".

This thread is a fascinating social experiment really in association and prejudice.

Maireas · 13/02/2022 17:54

I personally think all those outfits look dreadful, but if you like them, fine.

I often used to go to a friend’s on a Friday night for films etc if none of our other friends were out. I always turned up in (clean) pjs but that was mainly because our husbands often arrived back from the pub and we’d stay up late chatting and sleep over rather than trek back across the village.

Aside from that no. Even on mat leave if I’m having a rough morning I still at least put on clean leggings and a t shirt for the preschool run. It just seems a a bit student otherwise.

SpongebobsPants · 13/02/2022 17:57

I reckon you should wear whatever the hell you like. There's a lot to be said for comfort, especially after what the world has just been through this past couple of years. I'm not saying I wouldn't notice (I miss nothing!), but I wouldn't care AT ALL. I try not to judge people and my mind certainly wouldn't gallop straight towards the possible lack of hygiene just because someone is wearing pyjamas.

But leave the fluffy slippers at home - they'll get ruinedGrinGrin

HeadToToesNo · 13/02/2022 18:04

I see a mum on the school run every day and she's in her pyjamas (like the ones in OPs posts) and I judge her.
She also speeds through the village, swears at her kids and has a face like a torn scone, so it's not just the pyjamas that make me judge her, but they really don't help her case.

Festering in bed for however many hours, ew.
woodhill · 13/02/2022 18:22

Those pics make people look slovenly imo

ldontWanna · 13/02/2022 18:36

Festering?GrinGrinGrin

Seriously, what do you think happens in a bed/when asleep that doesn't happen while awake?

How? Because it's not to your taste? That says more about you
AllThingsServeTheBeam · 13/02/2022 18:47

@Canaloha if you fester in bed then yes. But I don't know any people who so that. Normally just sleeping
